"Sa gabing kay payapa`y pakinggan mo
ang awiting aking iaalay nagmula pa sa puso ko."
Caroline was jamming along with the instrumental of a certain song. She's practicing for the upcoming singing contest in which she will represent their school. She kept on singing and swaying as if she's performing in front of people.
"Pakinggan mo itong aking alay na kanta
Na nag-ugat sa ating pagmamahalan."
Caroline abruptly stopped singing when the electricity went off. After putting the microphone she was using on one of the speakers, she looked up at the ceiling and spoke. “A blackout?”
She looked at the window and saw a few houses away from school that still have lights on and she knew that those houses have the same electricity line as the school. “But there’s still electricity on those houses. What happening—?”
Before she could finish what she was saying, she felt something heavy that hits her head and she fell to the ground.
“Who-Who are you—ack!”
She then felt huge hands wrapped around her neck, choking her. She struggled, trying to get those hands away from her neck. She tried to breathe but she couldn’t anymore.
“L-Let m-me ack go—” She kept on struggling, slapping that person to let her go but the latter punched her jaw so hard that she could taste her own blood and choked her even more.
“You better off dead, Caroline.”
“Ah, I’m actually here to wait for my cousin and my friends. My other friend wants us to accompany her while doing her singing rehearsal.”
“Singing rehearsal?” Mr. Frederick asked. “Mind telling me if who is this student?”
“Caroline…”
“Ca-Caroline?” Mr. Frederick repeated.
“Yes, sir. Her name is Caroline,” Romina mentioned subconsciously.
"s**t, it can't be."
Luciel couldn't believe what he just read that even Simeon was caught off guard.
Simeon immediately turned his head to Luciel. “That person?”
Luciel tossed the book of death in such a hurry that Simeon almost fell off as he tried to catch it. The reaper almost felt like his life flashed before him when Luciel tossed the said book but he felt relieved when Simeon managed to catch it. “Luciel, don’t be too reckless with this book!”
“I have to go now!” Luciel immediately flapped his wings to fly at light speed.
“Wait—Luciel!” Simeon carefully returned the book to the reaper and with a bow, he spoke. “Thank you so much for lending us the book,” he immediately flapped his wings to fly and followed Luciel.
I must hurry, I must hurry. Romina might be next.
“Caroline? Caroline, I’m back. Sorry, it took me long to come back,” Romina said as she peeked at the music room’s door. After that conversation with Mr. Fredirick, she was called by their other teacher for some club matters because she’s one of the officers of the school’s book club so she couldn’t visit Caroline by that and she hasn’t said the tiny bit of information she got from Luciel. She actually waited for the whole school to be empty before she decided to visit Caroline.
“Why is the room dark? Did the school guard turn this off? But the door is open…” she slowly walked inside the music room and cautiously looked around so she couldn’t bump on something because it was dark.
“Caroline? Caroline? Are you here?” she asked as she looked around, trying to feel and see Caroline’s presence.
“He’s here…” she heard a murmur in the air. She could tell that the voice felt scared.
"What?"
“He’s here…” she heard a murmur in the air once again. Albeit the voice is too low that it almost sounded like a whisper, she could tell that that was Caroline and she felt scared.
“Caroline? Is that you?”
"Run!"
"What?"
“Run! He’s here!”
“Who? Who’s here?”
“Run!”
Romina heard something clinking behind her and she immediately turned her head and saw a figure holding a baseball bat. She was about to be hit by it but the shadow was thrown away by a powerful force. Romina immediately felt an arm wrapped around her waist securely.
She immediately turned her head on Luciel and Simeon who were glowing because of their forms.
“We made it on time,” Simeon said. “I didn’t expect that he’s the one behind the murder.”
“Yeah… me too,” Luciel agreed as they looked at the guy who slowly got up on his feet.
Romina’s eyes settled on the guy and she gasped in utter shock as soon as she saw the face of the said murderer. “How… this is impossible…”
“I…”
The guy looked at them in anger and shock as he tried to nurse himself from the pain Luciel caused him.
“I didn’t expect that it was our school guard who murdered Caroline Singson.”
