“HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO MARGARET?”
Romina’s eyes settled on her classmates talking in front of the blackboard. They may be meters further from her but she could actually hear them gossiping about Margaret.
Speaking of Margaret.
Ever since that prank and what happened between the two of them, she hadn’t seen Margaret after that. It’s been almost a week since that encounter and Margaret never showed up at school.
“Right. She’s almost a week absent, right?”
“Yeah. The last time we saw her was when she was sitting on the lobby’s floor, looking pale and horrified like she had seen something terrifying. Then when people took her to the nurse’s office, she’s saying incoherent words and kept thrashing around like crazy.”
“Wow, that’s indeed horrifying. I wonder what she saw or did that time that brought her in that state.”
“Romina.”
Her eyes settled on Luciel who just went inside the classroom and sat beside her. Her attention was on him, totally forgetting about the whole mysterious Margaret situation. “Oh, Luciel. So, why did the teacher call you to the faculty office?”
Luciel leaned on his chair and responded to her. “Nah, just about some school forms you humans bother yourselves on getting just to enter the school.”
Her eyes widened, as if she discovered something unbelievable. “RIGHT! That one! I totally forgot about that! How will you be able to get one?” she slightly leaned closer to him and whisper. “You’re not even a human.”
He smirked at her. “You’re underestimating your guardian, Romina,” he pulled out a brown envelope smoothly from his bag and showed it to her. “Before I decided to appear as a human and accompany you, I’m already prepared everything to have records as a human.”
Romina opened the envelope and scanned the documents from it. “You got the Form 137, even a school card, birth certificate, security papers, and... what? You’re coming from what? From Japan?” she obviously wanted to laugh because of the fake details of Luciel’s life that she just read from his ‘documents’.
“*Sugoidesune? Ore wa sorega kakkoyoku miemasune?” Luciel told her in Japanese which made her frown, amazed, and annoyed at the same time. “Humans obviously find people amazing if their background is amazing as well. What is the problem with that? It’s more believable that I came from outside the country since, you said, I am staying with your family as of this moment because my ‘family’ is from another place. You said that, you know? So I just want it to be believable,” he shrugged and continued to talk. “No sweat.” (Amazing, isn’t it? I look cool at that, am I right?)
“Huh. You’re so full of yourself. I just said those because if I’ll tell them that we’re not related yet you’re staying with me or whatever, they might get the wrong idea. I just want to be careful. I don’t want the both of us to get into trouble,” Romina responded to him.
“Yeah, I know. I know that,” Luciel muttered as he slid both of his hands inside his slack’s pockets.
Romina’s eyes settled on Marivic who just came into their classroom and walked towards her seat. Enthusiastic, she greeted her best friend. “Good morning, Marivic my bestyyyyy~”
Marivic looked tired but she still managed to smile and greet her best friend. “Good morning too, bestyyyyy~”
They both held each other’s hands and shook their hands excitedly, talking random stuff only the two of them could understand.
Luciel’s eyes just settled at the two of them and slightly frowned.
“Yes! Yes! And I also read the one you recommend me last time—” Romina paused when she noticed that her best friend kept on yawning and massaging her right shoulder. “Hey, Marivic, are you okay?”
Marivic nodded and smiled, reassuring her. “Yes, yes, I’m okay,” she, then, winced. “But I kinda felt weird, though. I actually went to bed early and I didn’t do any heavy school work but I wonder why I felt so tired.”
“Maybe you got stressed over something.”
“Maybe, maybe because I studied so much during the pre-competition period.”
“Yeah, maybe that’s one of the reasons. You just need to rest and relax,” Romina told her. Her eyes settled on Marivic’s right shoulder and she noticed a black sea urchin-like ball on her shoulder. At first, it was quite small then when it stuck on Marivic’s neck, it slowly became bigger. Marivic was scratching that part of her neck but the said the black spiky ball didn’t even barge to move away.
She was about to talk to the latter but they heard a voice from the door, calling Marivic.
“Marivic, Miss Lopez is calling you.”
“Ah, yes. Thank you, I’ll be there,” Marivic responded then she turned to Romina to excuse herself and went out of their classroom.
“Luciel, I saw something weird on Marivic’s shoulder. It’s like a spiky black ball or something. Have you seen it or I am just—”
“Yeah, I saw that,” Luciel responded calmly. “Only the two of us could see that, actually.”
“Do you mean... it’s an apparition?” with wide eyes, Romina asked.
He smirked at her. “Nice, you’re getting smarter, my lady.”
“Ugh, stop teasing me and just answer me.”
“Yeah, it is,” Luciel responded and his voice became serious. “It’s a harmless apparition but once we’ll let it stay with Marivic, that will obviously give us trouble.”
“T-Then, what kind of apparition is that?” she asked at him worriedly.
Luciel looked at him. “It’s an Energy-sucking apparition. One of the tricky apparitions you’ll ever encounter.”
