CHAPTER 16: Poltergeist

“I’M GLAD YOU’RE OKAY NOW, MARIVIC.” Marivic looked at Romina with a smile on her face. “Yeah. I actually felt refreshed now unlike those days when I felt so tired like someone sucked my energy or something…” They’re now walking towards their classroom after their flag-raising ceremony to attend the first period of their class. Last night passed like a blur for Marivic. She didn’t even realize that both Romina and Luciel flew her to their house especially to her room just to let her sleep peacefully as if nothing happened. Romina was actually sad for Marivic because she wasn’t able to see her guardian which is Simeon but she guessed it was the right way to do it because it’s not yet time for her to see him. Romina and Luciel slightly looked at each other then they settled their eyes on Marivic once again. “Guess a day of sleep actually helped me a lot.” Well, Luciel and your guardian angel actually dealt with the apparition leeching on you so it’s a relief that’s it’s gone now. But I wonder if Simeon got scolded up there. I hope he’s not. He was just trying to protect his human, after all. “Yeah, it seems so. You’ve been stressed because of studying for the competition, you know so I guess a day of sleep really helped you a lot,” Romina said as she grinned at her best friend. “Yeah. That really helped a lot.” When they were about to enter the classroom, they bumped into someone. Both Romina and Marivic didn’t recognize the person at first but as they stared at that person, they gasped in utter surprise. “Margaret?” they called her. Margaret looked at the two of them. They’re actually shocked when they saw how pale and how thin Margaret was. She didn’t look like the typical ‘kikay’ Margaret that they’ve been seeing from the past. Her shiny curly hair looked so frizzy as if she didn’t comb it for a long time. She’s not even wearing any jewelry and any makeup that’s why they could visibly see how pale and stressed she was. She looked so poorly groomed and she looked like she didn’t get enough sleep right now. And she seemed afraid over something. “Sorry…” Margaret muttered as she hugged herself and ran away from them. Romina and Marivic’s gaze just followed her as they heard their classmates yelling names at her especially the “creepy”, “weirdo”, “crazy”, “i***t” and any rude names they could call her. “What happened to her?” Marivic asked, obviously confused about what’s happening with their class’ ‘queen bee’. "She looked awful right now. Am I missing something?" “I have no idea,” albeit Romina experienced being bullied by Margaret, she couldn’t help but feel worried for the girl. “But I really hope she’s okay and we could offer some help for her.” “Maybe that’s her karma for bullying you,” Luciel joined their conversation. “But she didn’t deserve what she’s experiencing right now…” “You’re so nice, Romina. That’s technically the girl who bullied you and yet you’re still concerned about her.” Romina looked at Luciel. “Have you heard about the old Filipino saying ‘Kapag binato ka ng bato, batuhin mo ng tinapay’ which figuratively means that if someone did a bad thing to you, you should show a good deed to them so that they’ll realize that you’re not really a bad person.” “I didn’t know about that, Romina…” he muttered and leaned closer to Romina’s ear and whispered. “I’m a demon, Romina. And doing good deeds is not my thing.” “Guess you have different sayings in Japan, right?” the both of them looked at Marivic. “After all, you were born and raised there.” Luciel smiled at her. “Un'sōmitai (yeah, looks like it).” "You should definitely teach me how to speak Japanese next time, Luciel." "Yeah, next time." “We should go inside now. Our class will start now.” “Yes, we should but I also hope that Margaret can still attend our classes.” “She can. Masamang damo din naman `yun. Hahahaha.” “Stop saying that, Marivic.” “Oops, sorry.” Their classes passed like a blur. Romina was actually glad that Margaret managed to attend their classes but of course, the latter experienced getting bullied that no one dared to stand up for her—even her friends. Not gonna lie, Romina was actually mad at Margaret for bullying her without any valid reason but of course, she’s sad that right now, Margaret was experiencing the same thing she did to the former—much worse than what she did to Romina. “Let me help you, Margaret…” Romina said in a soft voice as she gave the dustpan to Margaret. They’re currently cleaning the quadrangle since they’re the ones assigned to clean the said area. Margaret cowered when she felt Romina’s presence and clumsily ran away from the latter. Romina just stood there, felt more worried for Margaret as their other classmates made fun of her when she passed by. “That ungrateful girl. You volunteered to help her and yet that’s what she’ll respond to you?” Marivic commented and shook her head as she clicked her tongue. “Once a mean girl, always a mean girl.” “Maybe she was just shy because someone helped her. You know Margaret, she’ll never ask for help…” “That actually proved my point,” her best friend sighed. “It’s hopeless for her to change. I wonder what her guardian thinks about her. She didn’t have a chance to summon him or her.” “Right.” “Oh, well,” Marivic shrugged. “Let’s just finish our cleaning task so we could go home.” “Right.” “What the—?!” They suddenly stopped and turned their heads to their classmates who actually yelled because of utter shock. They saw three huge pots near their classmates’ place and it seemed like someone threw or dropped them towards them from the second floor of the building. But it’s weird because no one was on the said floor. “Dang, that gave me a shock.” “Bro, are you okay?! The pots were huge! These could really make your skull break open.” “Yeah, I’m okay. I was just shocked. Dang, good thing my guardian managed to pull me away.” “Me too!” “That gave me a scare.” “What was that?” Marivic asked. She immediately ran towards her classmates to check on them and ask them what happened since she’s one of their class officers. “Just as I thought…” Romina looked at Luciel who was actually looking intently at the second floor of the empty building with a faint red color on his eyes. “What was that, Luciel?” Luciel looked at her. “There’s a poltergeist residing in the building... and she hates kids.”
