ROMINA’S EYES SETTLED ON LUCIEL’S BACK as they walked towards their school building. Luciel was walking ahead of her as she trailed on his back, following him. Luciel was quite composed this morning, unlike last night when he was really upset to the point that if Romina wasn’t there, he might really go in berserk.
She didn’t know what made him so upset that he even said those words last night.
Or more like…
Romina kept on staring at the back of his head.
What really happened that made him so upset like that? What did he and Simeon talk about last night?
I bet Luciel will not gonna talk about it. I’ll just go ask Simeon about it. I’ll just seek good timing to see Simeon since Luciel was always on guard with it comes to me.
I badly want to know what really happened last night that made him so upset like that…
She remembered what he said last night once again.
Something important to him. A demon acknowledging “important” like that. I wonder what was that ‘something important' that he was talking about.
She was cut off from her thoughts when Luciel suddenly stopped and turned his head at her which made her gasp and hugged her books.
“You.”
“W-What?” Romina asked. She mentally cursed herself when she noticed how she stuttered.
“I really felt your eyes burning holes on the back of my head,” Luciel said, frowning. “Can you tell me what you want to say or something?”
She wanted to ask him what he and Simeon talked about last night, but she shook her head instead of doing so. “Nothing. I was… I just want to ask if you are okay now.”
“Is that even necessary to ask? I’m not a human. I’m a demon. Nothing can really make me feel ill but since you asked, yes, I am okay. Now, let’s get going.”
“O-Okay…” Romina muttered as she followed Luciel towards their school building. She noticed how Luciel slowed his pace for her to finally walk beside him.
Somehow, she couldn’t help but flaunt a tiny smile because of that.
An angel looked like Luciel smiling so brightly at the other angel she couldn't see nor recognize the face. He happily walked side by side with her.
That made her look at nothingness as she walked side by side with Luciel.
She just couldn’t help but wonder…
Why am I kept seeing Luciel as an angel?
Her eyes settled on Luciel once again who started to walk ahead of her.
There’s only one who can answer everything… and it’s not Luciel. But him… that guy. That guy can definitely answer me. I just need to meet him again.
“Hey, Luciel!”
Both Luciel and Romina looked at their male classmates who were grinning at them, especially at her guardian.
“We really managed to win Chicken Dinner multiple times a row last night in PUBG thanks to you!” one of the guys said.
“It’s really nice to play with you, Damon!” the other guy grinned.
“There’s another round later. We should definitely play. You’ll be in-game later, right, Luciel?” the third guy said. “It’ll be 8 pm.”
Luciel nodded. “Sure.”
“Nice! Lakas mo talaga, Luciel! See you in game!”
“Yeah, you too,” Luciel replied as the three finally entered the classroom.
Frowning, Romina turned her head at him. But before she could utter a word, Luciel spoke. “If you’ll gonna ask about it, it’s not me. L played with them in my stead, pretending that he’s me, and decided to play using my laptop.”
“Since when did you have a laptop?” Romina asked as she slightly raised her left brow.
“Uh, I am a demon before I became your guardian, Romina. And I have my own treasures in the underworld and I could acquire those in a snap. Obviously, I am a millionaire in this realm of yours,” Luciel said, proudly.
“Huh. Sana all mayaman,” Romina commented, trying to be sarcastic at Luciel because he’s technically rich in the human realm. “And since when did you become friends with those three?”
“Friends?” Luciel asked, slightly frowning at her. “What friends?”
“Uh, you and them? You’ve been talking with them since last week and earlier, you’re talking about this game called PUBG so yeah, I could tell you are friends with them.”
“Is that how you humans call that interaction of us?” he asked then he shrugged. “Well, if that’s the case, then those three were my friends.”
“Then… what about us, Luciel?”
Luciel looked at her. “Us?”
“Yeah,” Romina nodded. “What about us?”
“You’re my human, and I am your guardian,” he immediately responded.
“I mean…” Romina muttered. Then, she took a breath and asked once again. “Do you consider me as a friend? Just like them?”
Luciel’s eyes settled on their three classmates who were obviously having a good time with each other. After a second or two, his gaze settled on Romina again. “No.”
Oh. That was unexpected.
Romina felt a slight pang on her chest. She was obviously expecting Luciel will tell her that he considered her as a friend since, after all, he’s her guardian and they bonded more than their classmates so she was expecting him to consider her as his friend. Which, the expectation didn’t turn out the way she wanted.
This demon. He’s so terrible! Am I nothing to him?! The actual—?!
“That relationship was too shallow to bind us,” Lucie looked at her once again. The side of his lips slightly quirked as if he was going to smile at her. “We’re more than that shallow word ‘friends’. That word can’t even cover up how bonded we are. You don’t have to settle for that shallow word. We can be whatever you want us to be.”
That made Romina look at him in awe as her gaze followed him as he entered the classroom because their classmate called him.
“That demon…”
That was unexpected.
