A strangely kind Alpha

Maddie I was still standing there, looking at Derek's brother's car, who had hurt me so badly, with no reaction whatsoever, being too surprised to think of anything logical. “Are you seriously going to walk to the bus stop alone? It is very far from here to there. Let me at least take you there,” he said, trying to convince me to come into his house. I took a small step back, still in a defensive mood because of what I had just come to understand moments ago. Alpha Derek Strickland, his brother, had just slept with me only to fulfill a stupid dare with his friends; he had no feelings for me; he hadn’t even considered the possibility that he would be hurting me deeply by doing this. I went out with a fool—the girl who was easy to pick up and have s*x with. So for me, who had always been very cautious and intelligent about these things, if I agreed to go to bed with him, it was simply because I loved him. I liked him from the first day I started studying at that college, and when he showed up to me at the party last night, hitting on me and calling me beautiful, I couldn’t resist and believed his words, letting him take me to his house, hoping that he really wanted to experience this with me. But in reality, I ended up just being an easy girl he picked up to prove to his friends that he was the badass. And now his brother was offering me a ride. “Look, I don't think so. I don’t trust you…” I told him, being cautious. He chuckled, but it didn’t seem like he was mocking me, and then nodded. “You’re right to be cautious. In fact, not all Alphas are good-natured,” he said, still sitting in the driver’s seat with his hands on the steering wheel of the car. “Your brother knows it better.” I was sarcastic in my speech, wanting to make him realize how upset I was with that situation. “Yes, but I am not my brother. I just want to take you home, that’s all. Besides, I’m dating, and I really like my girlfriend right now,” he said, shrugging with a small smile on his face. He looked similar to Derek, with dark hair, green eyes, and tanned skin, but you could tell he was older than that stupid Alpha. I pondered for a moment. Should I accept that ride? I looked beyond; I didn’t see any bus stops nearby. Apparently, I would have to walk a long way to get to a place where I could catch a taxi. And although I was still suspicious of everyone who was close to Derek, I still had to give this guy the benefit of the doubt. So I went to the other side of the car and opened the door, sitting there in the passenger seat. Derek’s brother smiled at me and started the car. I remained silent, just wanting to go home. He was being kind to me, but that didn’t cancel out the fact that his family and his brother had been jerks to me. So I just looked at the landscape of the luxury condo they lived in. “What’s your name again?” Derek’s brother asked after a while. I sighed slowly. “Madelyn,” I replied shortly. “Oh, Madelyn? Maddie from Madelyn. It’s a nice name,” he commented with a relaxed laugh, but I didn’t return the gesture. "Do you live on the east side of the city?” He tried again, still wanting interaction. I sighed. Was he asking that because he wanted to take me home? “You don’t need to know where I live; I just want you to drop me off at the nearby bus stop,” I told him rudely. I didn’t want to have small talk with him. I hated them all. He sighed after my response, feeling visibly uncomfortable. “I’m just trying to redeem it. I know my brother was a complete jerk to you; I just want to make amends,” he said, trying to explain why he was acting that way towards me. “You don’t have to remedy anything because there is nothing you can do that will remedy anything.” I was so pissed. “And stop acting like a good boy; you and your family are no good. You don’t care about the acts Derek did, whether he hurt anyone or not…” My voice was choked. “I can really imagine how you feel, but I’m not like my brother,” he said to me, looking at me. I looked at him too, but then looked away. It was foolish to trust any member of that evil family again. “All Alphas are the same. Well, my mother warned me, but I didn’t listen to her…” I murmured, hating my tears as they fell. The guy next to me was reaching out to me and handing me a napkin. Still defensive, I angrily grabbed the napkin and wiped my tears, turning my face back to the window so he wouldn’t talk to me again. When we arrived at the bus stop, Derek’s brother parked the car on the side of the road and got out of the vehicle, walking around to open the door on my side. “Come on, I’ll take you to the taxi,” he said to me. I blinked my eyes, surprised by his action. “I can go to the taxi alone,” I replied in a petulant manner, turning my nose up at him. What was he trying to convey by doing this? Did he want to act like a gentleman? Like those Alphas who followed the ethics they all learned from a young age of always protecting and caring for Omegas, no matter the risks or circumstances? “Look, Maddie. Just let me play my role as Alpha, okay? Even though you no longer believe in good,” he insisted, still holding his hand out to me. I wet my lips, looking at him for a moment, but then I got out of the car and let him take me to the available taxi, but without letting him touch me. He opened the taxi door for me and waited for me to get in and get comfortable. I sighed, thinking about it for a moment. In truth, this guy had no obligation to be kind to me, but he was being kind from the beginning. “What is your name?” I asked him before he walked away. I didn’t even know his name or anything else. He chuckled before responding, his lip curling into a smirk, making his face more handsome than it already was. “Stephen. I’m Stephen.” At that moment, I found him so magical, as if he wasn’t from this world. “Thank you, Stephen…” I said that because, even though his brother and his family were being rude to me, he was at least being kind. He looked deeply at me for a moment and then replied, “Get there safely, Maddie.” Then he walked away. There was something about his name that enchanted me, and his manner too, or maybe it was just the minimum amount of kindness that someone showed to me after I had suffered such a huge blow of disappointment. Stephen went to see the taxi driver before returning to his car. “Take her straight home and don’t try anything funny with her; otherwise, I’ll hunt you down and kill you. I already have your taxi’s license plate engraved in my mind,” he simply threatened the driver, who swallowed hard and nodded. “Yes, Alpha. Sure, no problem. I’ll do it,” the man replied, almost shivering with fear. As the car pulled away, Stephen continued waving at me with a sweet smile, as if he hadn’t just threatened someone with death because of me. I felt my mouth curve into a sincere smile. I liked feeling protected.
