I knew that it was impossible to make him stay. But I gave it a shot anyways. I looked up at him and said, "I agree to divorce, but with a condition. Stay here tonight and attend Grandpa Thomson's funeral together with me. I will sign the divorce agreement right after that."
He narrowed his eyes. His black eyes were filled with mockery as he smiled slightly. "Please me." He let go of my jaw and narrowed his eyes as he leaned close to my ear. "Actions speak louder than words, Lacey. You have to rely on your own capabilities."
His hoarse and low voice sounded flirtatious. I knew what he meant, so I wrapped my arms around his waist and lifted my head to reach his lips. The difference between our heights made me look funny and ridiculous when I did that.
I didn't know much about s*x, so I did as how my instincts told me to. I reached out and started to untie the bath towel around his waist. His soft yet heavy breathing brushed past my ear, telling me that he was already starting to feel something. I didn't know how to describe this feeling. It must have looked pathetic for this to be the only way to make the one I loved stay by my side.
As soon as the bath towel fell to the ground, I slowly traced down on his skin with my fingertips when suddenly, my hand was stopped by him. As I looked up at him, dark eyes with a hint of indiscernible flirting stared back at me. "That's enough!"
Those words were indifferent and cold. I paused, trying to figure out what he meant. Then, he gracefully put on the grey pajamas he took from the bed.
I was baffled at first, but then I came to realization. Did that mean that he would be staying?
Before I could feel happy about it, a faint voice of a woman came from outside the window, amidst the sound of the rain. "Dylan."
I froze. Before I could react, Dylan paced to the balcony and grabbed a coat with a gloomy face on him before walking out of the bedroom.
Outside the balcony, Camilla stood in the heavy rain. Wearing thin clothes, she let the rain pour on her mercilessly. The delicate beauty looked even more pitiful in the rain.
Dylan wrapped the coat he brought with him around her. Before he could say anything, Camilla suddenly hugged him and whimpered in his arms.
Watching them, I realized why I was no match for a single phone call from Camilla even after being with Dylan for two years.
Dylan walked into the villa with his arm wrapped around Camilla and brought her upstairs. I stood at the staircase and stared down at the two drenched adults, blocking their way.
"Get out of the way!" Dylan commanded. His voice was cold as he looked at me with disgust in his eyes.
Was I sad?
I didn't know. But what hurt more was watching how my beloved cherished others and trampled me.
"Dylan, when we got married, you promised Grandpa Thomson that as long as I, Lacey, was still here, you wouldn't bring her in here." This was the only place that Dylan and I shared. Countless nights I let Camilla spend with Dylan, so why dirty this place that belonged only to me in the very end?
"Hmph!" Dylan scoffed all of a sudden and pulled me out of their way. "You think too highly of yourself, Lacey," he said coldly.
Such hurtful words. Watching him escort Camilla into the guest room, all I could do was watch as a mere bystander.
This night was destined not to be peaceful.
Having an already weak body, Camilla had a high fever because of the rain. Dylan coddled her. He changed her clothes and used a towel to cool her down.
I was probably an eyesore to him, so Dylan gave me a cold glance and said, "Go back to the Thomson family's old house! Camilla won't be going home tonight in her current condition."
Going back to the Thomson family's old house at this hour? Hmph!
I was an eyesore.
Staring at Dylan, I didn't know how I should remind him of how far away the old house was, how late it was, and how dangerous it would be for a woman like me to head there alone.
However, he couldn't care less. All he cared about was whether my presence would disturb Camilla's rest here.
Suppressing the bitterness I felt within me, I said calmly, "I'll go back to the bedroom. It's not a good idea to go to the old house now!"
Even though he didn't cherish me, I couldn't trample myself like how he did me.
After leaving the guest room, I ran into Benjamin Cole in the hallway. Perhaps in light of how much of a hurry he was in, he still had his black pajamas on. His clothes were almost drenched and he didn't even change his shoes before coming here.
