Suspicion

1664 Words
We walked into the classroom that morning and everyone was staring at us like there was something inappropriate about our appearance, which got me upset. I was able to control my rage, gently sitting on the third row, then I carefully looked at myself to ensure there was nothing detestable on my jacket. I waited for some time hoping they would eventually get back to whatever they were doing as a teacher entered the classroom.  “Good day everyone, my name is Sylvester,” The teacher introduced himself as he caught their attention. I felt relieved because at least as long as he was in the classroom I would be able to attract less attention.  "You will be having a lot of classes this year to brush you up and get you prepared since the legacy of our school must be protected.” He continued, as he took up a marker writing down some words on the board. His purpose of coming was only to tell us how the system of the school was carried out and immediately he was done he left the classroom.  Immediately sir Silvester left the classroom I looked to see if the students had stopped staring, and luckily everyone went back to whatever they were doing.  “Stephen, you have to see this” I heard Martin's voice beside me. I turned towards him, as he showed me some amazing quotes on his cell phone. I stared into the phone for some time, then was moved to ask him if he realised the students stared at us earlier. “Relax, it's obvious new students are usually stared at on their first day at school,” he replied. I decided to feel less concerned since i was also aware of what he was talking about as I had an instinct that some people were still looking at us from behind, so I turned backwards as I saw some group of boys staring angrily at me, at sight it was obvious their intentions were not mutual but I was confident since I knew many ways to deal with people like them.  I could see one of them whisper some words in the ear of the one seated in the middle whose eyes were constantly on me with cruelty and hate. The only conclusion I came up with was that they were bullies, because that seemed like the only explanation for their actions. I stared at them for sometime then heard my name as I turned to see who it was. “Hello, I am Max.” he introduced himself. “You are Stephen Micheals, aren't you?" He asked although I was sure he knew who I was. “Yes, Stephen.” I replied. "By the way, have we met before?" I asked as he looked sideways then back at me. "Well about that, almost everyone in this school knows who you are, your parents are highly regarded personnel in this city, especially your late father.” He replied. I thought about it and if Max knew about me then he should know a little concerning the people on the last row.  I furrowed my eyebrows slightly then turned towards the boys at the back seat that we’re staring at me earlier. “And what about those ones, what is their big deal?” I asked then turned towards him,  I saw him look towards their direction as he quickly shifted his gaze back at me. “It would be better to stay away from them, anyone that gets in their way always goes missing,” he replied in a low tone as even I could barely hear what he said.  I saw how scared and uncomfortable he was, literally trying to avoid being seen by them.  “Sorry, I have to go now.” Max said to me as he walked out of the class. I turned back towards the boys and saw the cruelty in the eyes of one sitting in the middle. He looked huge, with brown colored hair and his eyes were like that of a savage, if not for some reasons I would insist he was to be out of college by now.  'Who the hell are these people?' I thought to myself as I went after max.  “Max, wait up.” I called as he turned back towards me. I saw in his face how he despised that moment, but he stopped anyway. “Please I don’t want to get into trouble,” he said to me in fright as i noticed the shaking in his voice. "Just avoid them," he continued then turned and was about to leave, but I stopped him. “You have to explain to me why you’re scared of them, and who the one in the middle with the crazy colored eyes is?” I insisted, but he gave me an angry look, with his eyebrows folded. “Just forget I told you something like this, like I said earlier I don’t want to get into trouble.” He said, as he quickly walked away.  I stood there for sometime puzzled in my thoughts, as I watched Max take the next route moving out of my sight towards the large hall in the center of the building we’re the students usually use during break periods.  I turned around, taking my eyes towards the classroom door, as I decided to forget what I heard earlier like I was told. 'Who do they think they are, just some group of bullies?' I thought to myself.  Karen always talks about bullies sometimes. I remember clearly how she always advised me to stay away from them if I found one, but Frank's theory I loved the most, and his words were. 'Bullies should always be taught a lesson.' I opened the classroom door and found Martin on the seat. talking to a fellow student.  I wondered what they would be discussing, but better not to interrupt them. I looked once more towards the direction where the boys staring at me were, but I found none of them, only an empty desk.  'Where could they have gone?' I thought to myself then looked again at the person Martin was speaking to.  I went over to meet him as I recognized the boy he was having a conversation with was one of the ones staring earlier at me from behind as he stretched out his hands to me.  I pretended I didn't see his mischievous act of generosity as I sat down.  “Stephen, this is Peter.” Martin introduced him to me, but I looked detestably at him as his countenance became darkened like he knew I saw him earlier with the other's. He looked at me strictly then back at Martin. “I think I will take my leave now,” He said. I don’t know if I was the only one that saw the evil look on his face before he left or Martin was also aware of that look, but I was definitely glad he got my message to stay away.  “What is up with that attitude?” Martin asked angrily, but I never uttered a word till I was sure Peter had left the classroom.  I turned towards Martin. “I don’t trust him, I know a cruel person when I see one,” I replied then brought out my phone from my side pocket.. “What do you mean by that? And how do you know he is cruel” he asked,  with his eyebrow slightly furrowed.  “Let's just say I know and forget about the details,"I replied, slowly taking my eyes off him. Martin shook his head. “Unbelievable Steve.” I knew he was about to say something like that, it's obviously how he acts in our early secondary’s. I guess some attitudes never leave, nevertheless I knew he was about to utter the last words.  “How can you be so certain about someone you don’t even know?” He sighed, turning towards the textbook before him.  'I have to find out where they all went?' I thought to myself standing on my feet. “I will be right back,” I said to him as I left the seat. I knew his anger would only last for a while. 'If they are bullies then I will have to deal with them myself,' I thought once more as I followed Peter down to a basement Inside the school, as I stopped beside a large pillar a little distant from where they were. The place was quiet and empty, except for the boys I saw earlier as they were gathered together. I watched Peter walk towards the muscular and huge one that has strange colored eyes showing obeisance before him. 'What is the meaning of this?' I thought to myself as I suspected there was more to them than just bullies. I heard Peter speak humbly, as his voice quavered like the words he was about to utter scares him. "Rex, I tried but the kid is a stubborn one, he didn't give me a chance nevertheless I suspect he saw me earlier with you…”  He had not completed his statement as he was interrupted by the deep rumbling of Rex's voice, I watched the others join him. They finally stopped immediately and Rex lifted his face at peter. “Just a simple assignment, bring the boy to me, but you couldn’t keep it. I am sure you know your failure is punishable by death.” He said as I quickly hid behind the pillar but in the process my feet mistakenly touched a small can which attracted their attention. 'What have I done?' I thought to myself as I saw Rex look towards the pillar where I hid, I tried to remain quiet to avoid any other suspicion as I leaned on the pillar making sure that no part of my body was seen.
