A waiting officer said, “Over here.”
Kevin said, “Okay, I'll be right back. I just have to check on someone.”
The officer looked concerned. “I understand. I'll walk over there with you because I can't turn you loose until I have the information I need from you.”
The officer followed Kevin over to Kelly, who was on the phone to the hospital informing them of why she had not appeared at the beginning of her shift. She saw Kevin approach and looked in his direction.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
“I'm fine. How about you?”
