Chapter 10Wes was fuming, and he didn’t know why.
“What are we gonna do, Daddy?” Lily asked, sounding hesitant, which just wouldn’t do.
“Well, how about we go look for the others and then figure it out?” Wes replied with a calm he didn’t feel.
He let her down, took her hand, and they followed the sound of shrieks toward the barnyard.
Lauren, Mick’s wife, appeared from the barn and smiled at them. “Hey, are you keeping an eye on the pups?”
“Yeah, Elena asked me to. Any pointers?” Wes smiled back at her. It wasn’t her fault his brain was f****d up this morning.
“I’d love it if you’d keep them in the yard somehow, that’s about it. Oh, and absolutely no going to the pond for a swim yet.” She touched Lily’s hair in passing, scent-marking her like all the other adults would, too.
