"Jingle bells! Jingle bells! Jingle all the way…" I paused with singing. Something definitely didn't sound right about my voice at the moment. Had my voice lost its melody?
I stopped, then stared out of the window of the so-called planet that I guessed they called a house. I swear on holy cows' sake that an entire planet could fit into this house.
Out the windows, the floors were dressed with grasses and lovely-petaled flowers which sent a sensation of warmth down my body.
I shut my eyes then breathed in, letting the cool breeze from the window disseminate against my skin, and the spirit to sing suddenly hit me once more. "Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree. How lovely…" Guess what guys, my voice was actually sounding melodious, enough to please even me but some knucklehead just had to interrupt me.
"Kealey, I guess it's merry Christmas to you too." It just happened to be none other than Layla Tatum, my very own and incredibly annoying older sister.
I rolled my eyes at her remark. Why the hell did she have to hear me sing? Why not anyone else in the world?
For a minute, I imagined if it happened to be Kaiden, Kaiden Coleman, who had just heard me sing. What was he going to do? Love my voice and kiss me immediately?
Gosh Kealey, this ain't some fantasy s**t. No one as 'worth-dying-for' as Kaiden was just going to kiss some random person he barely even knew.
"What? Christmas isn't even anytime soon. It's still a long 'God knows what number' of months before Christmas and you're here singing Christmas songs." She said with a mocking tone, the tone that made you feel like you had committed a crime.
"Okay, we get your point." I groaned, rolling my eyes once more as I stepped back from the window. Suddenly, I felt like I had lost or dropped something by leaving the window. "Are you done?" I asked her.
Layla was still in her maid's uniform and also with her cleaning equipment. She looked so tired and weary like she was going to pass out if anyone flicked her with just their fingers.
"I'm sorry you're going through all this stress just to earn for us." I said, sadness was partially registered in my tone as I spoke. It didn't miss a chance to make Layla's eyes read a feeling of pain, sorrow.
"What stress?" She laughed boisterously, as a means to get rid of the sadness that was starting to steer up between us. "It's no big deal. I actually love my work so I don't feel any bad about it." She waved a hand around the air.
"Really? You can't tell me you're not exhausted. After cleaning up this entire 3-storey building. Why not have someone else other than you and Bella?" I furrowed my eyebrows a bit. "Do you want to kill yourself?"
"Kealey, I'm not. You might be extremely dumb and stupid, but at least, I expected you to use that dead thing you call a brain to think of the fact that the addition of a maid will result in the reduction of my Salary." She explained.
"It shouldn't matter." I retorted, ignoring her rude and insulting comment. My face suddenly turned red as a thought popped into my head.
"What's with that look?" Layla raised an eyebrow at me. A very suspicious look, I must say. "Kealey, I hope you're not thinking of anything stupid. I don't trust you."
"Well… since I don't have anything I'm doing at the moment, why don't I join you? I can also clean and receive my salary, return the money from your deduction then have the rest to myself." I shrugged. "As everyone knows, Kaiden is the person that pays his workers the highest."
"Really? You think?" She clicked her tongue. "Why else will I still be so wretched, poor, worthless, if that was the case. Remember Kealey, I know you have a stupid crush on Kaiden." She sighed, dropping her cleaning equipment as she advanced to me and held my shoulders.
I tried my best to resist rolling my eyes but I failed at it, which earned a heart-killing glare from her.
"I'm being serious here, young woman." Gosh— the nice and sisterly tone was gone. Here we were, back at the rude tone.
"If you dare take your stupid a*s to that f*****g man, I swear I'll kill you. You should know that that man is nothing but a cruel-hearted git! He's a damn numskull!" She shouted, acting so serious that it made me wonder what her problem was with Kaiden.
As it seemed, Kaiden was a very nice man. He had everything; looks, money, smartness, money, totally hot, money, an amazing person, money. Ignore my repetition of money. He was a Billionaire and it wasn't possible for him to be mentioned without his wealth showing off.
"Get outta here, I'll do what I want." I hissed then walked away from her.
"Kea, I'm literally begging you." She yelled behind me as I stormed away from the gigantic room we were both in. It was a room for Layla whenever she was working here. It was one of the things that made me come here all the time. But, I always came here especially because I loved to take in the view of that piece of creativity, Kaiden. Despite being almost a decade older than I was, he was literally the best man I had ever met and there was nothing I won't do to have him as mine.
An idea popped into my head. There was no way he was ever going to notice me if I did nothing. You could never notice a gold if it was covered in mud, else it was cleaned.
