Bringing Home Babies and Learning the Facts

David’s POV "Did she have any personal belongings with her?  Do we know where she gave birth?"   Larry was rapid firing questions at Brian and I hadn’t realized that I had spoken my out loud until Brian answered me. Larry looked at me and said “I was thinking the same thing brother.”  Brian then looked at all of us and supplied us with the answers that he could give. "We don't know if she was alone when she gave birth and we don't know who the father is.  She had a few things with her but nothing that would identify her or the babies.  We are checking with local hospitals because while she's been here a couple weeks the babies aren't much older than that.  Hopefully we will find a hospital where she gave birth but now that we know her name, we can search better. There are a lot of 'jane does' that have given birth over the last few weeks and quite a few of them have had twins so narrowing it down has been difficult.  The important thing to think about right now is that we have found her and just in time.  These little beauties were due to be shipped off to foster care tomorrow because the hospital couldn't find a living relative. Once those blood tests come back there is some paperwork to fill out and we can bring them home to be with us until we can wake their mother." I was shocked and just stared at Brian.  Then I said “what do you mean they were going to ship our nieces off to foster care?  Their mother is right there why in the hell would they send them to foster care?”  Brian looked at Larry and he just nodded.  “Guy’s Elizabeth is in a coma and it’s unclear as to when she will be waking up.  She was severely beaten by two thugs.  She protected the babies with her life and she almost lost it.  She clung onto her consiouness long enough to keep the girls safe.  She wouldn’t let the paramedics treat her until they had secured her girls.  But since she is not showing any signs of waking up we needed to make other arrangements for the twins.  At the time the hospital had no clue who she was or if the babies had any family in the area so until their mommy woke up they were going to have to go to foster care.  Thankfully now they won’t have to and hopefully we can break through to Lizzy and get her home as well.”  I was dumbfounded and wanted to know more about these thugs that had hurt my baby sister and tried to hurt my nieces.  I asked the guys if they would mind if I took off making the excuse that I had some business to take care of at the office.  In reality I had decided to make my way to the police station and gather whatever information I could about my sister’s attack and the men responsible.  I needed to know if they were working alone or if they were working for someone else.  Something about the attack didn’t sit right with me and my gut was telling me that our sister was in more danger than anyone realized.  That possibly her remaining a jane doe in the hospital is what had kept her alive after that attack.  Now it would be very critical to find that information out so that we could proplerly protect her.  My days as an agent had taught me that nothing is purely random and usually when someone like Lizzy is attacked it’s with a purpose.  Everyone else aside from Brian and Larry left the hospital as well.  Larry assured everyone that he would get a ride from Brian as they would be taking the babies home today.  Brian had placed a call in to the girls to make sure they got everything we needed to take care of two brand new babies delivered and set up today.  I still couldn’t believe it.  Our little sister was a mother to not one but two perfect little girls.  Well one thing for certain I couldn’t speak for the other uncles but I knew that this uncle was going to spoil those little princesses like no other.  When I reached the police station I was greeted by a very good friend from the force.  After a few minutes of talking in pleasantries I got down to business.  “Brad did you hear about the young woman with twins that was attacked a few weeks back?”  Brad looked at me and said “sure do I was one of the responding officers.  Why are you asking about her?  If I’m not mistaken she still hasn’t woken up in the hospital and still hasn’t been identified.”  I looked at him and said “she hasn’t woken up yet but as of today she has been identified.”  He looked at me astonished and I said “let’s go to your office this is going to take some time.”  He nodded and headed towards his office. Brad’s POV After David got done explaining how the young woman from that brutal attack was identified I was dumbfounded.  This girl was indeed a blessed woman.  How she had survived the attack nobody was certain.  How her little girls didn’t get hurt was beyond a mother giving her life for her children.  A lot of the guys here on the force were trying to keep up with how she was doing because in our eyes she was a true hero.  To find out that that woman was a sibling to David was astounding.  Everyone here respected David which is saying a lot because a lot of us didn’t much care for private investigators.  Usually they came into the station all demanding and cocky.  Not David he always came in behaving in the most professional way.  We all put it down to the fact that David used to be an agent for the federal government and so he knew how to treat other agencies and professionals correctly.  Most of the PI’s in this state had never served like he did.  David then asked me if he could get a copy of the report and if we had any lead on the thugs that attacked her.  He wanted to know as much information as he could.  “David I’m telling you now that as her older brother there is stuff in this report that is going to make your blood boil.  Hell it makes most of us here at the station pissed off and watning to take the guys responsible out to the boonies and do away with them.  But if anyone can get to the bottom of their motive it would be you.  They aren’t speaking to any of us.”  David looked at me and said “you mean you have them in custody?”  I nodded my head.  He asked if he could visit with them after reading the report and I had to take a minute to figure out if it was safe for those thugs or not.  “Read the report first and then ask me.  I need to see your demeanor after reading the report.”  He nodded at me and I went to retrieve the file on the no longer jane doe.  “Here you go.  I’m going to leave you alone to read through this.  I’m going to the break room to let everyone who is here know that our precious jane doe has been identified.  You can come find me there after you are done.  Take however long you need buddy.”  With that I closed my office door and made my way to the breakroom. David’s POV After filling Brad in on how it was discovered that Elizabeth was the jane doe laying in the hospital he had let out a long breath.  Shaking his head in dismay about what kind of higher power was on her side.  For her to have survived.  Apparently my little sister and her babies had won the hearts of every guy on the squad.  From the little information I had I knew she had accomplished something pretty phenomenal.  I asked for a copy of the report and if they had any leads on the thugs that attacked her.  Brad looked at me with seriousness in his eyes and said “David I’m telling you now that as her older brother there is stuff in this report that is going to make your blood boil.  Hell it makes most of us here at the station pissed off and watning to take the guys responsible out to the boonies and do away with them.  But if anyone can get to the bottom of their motive it would be you.  They aren’t speaking to any of us.”  I was shocked to say the least looking at Brad I said “you mean you have them in custody?”  He nodded his head in affirmation “I want to see them.”  A cloud went over his face as he was trying to decide whether he should grant my wish.  Then he said to me .  “Read the report first and then ask me.  I need to see your demeanor after reading the report.” I nodded my head at him that I agreed to his terms.  Brad left the office to retrieve the file and I had to wonder what in the hell was in that file that I was about to read that would make an entire force want to take justice in their own hands.  He came back into his office, handed me a file and said “Here you go.  I’m going to leave you alone to read through this.  I’m going to the break room to let everyone who is here know that our precious jane doe has been identified.  You can come find me there after you are done.  Take however long you need buddy.”  With that he closed the door behind him and left.  I took a steadying breath and started to open the file.  There on the first page was the most horrific picture I had ever seen of a victim.  How in the hell did she survive the attack that left her looking like this?  It was a good thing that the guys hadn’t seen her like this they would have lost it for certain.  I was angry just looking at the picture wondering what my sister had done to warrant such a violent attack.  This was not just some random attack I knew it from my years of experience this was a hit.  What had Elizabeth gotten herself into?  As I started flicking through the pages and reading the file I was finding my stomach getting sick.  She had endured so much that if she did wake up it would be a miracle.  She could quite possibly have amnesia and more than likely would have some severe disabilities.  The guys were going to need to be prepared for her homecoming if she got to ever come home.  After reading through the file I went and found Brad. Slapping him on the back I said “buddy I am going to take a pass for a few days in talking to those guys.  I need to digest what I have read and get my mind right.  Thank you for looking out for me.  I will be back but I have to channel my agent side and put the brother in me in the back before I talk to them and right now I can’t do that.”  Brad nodded his head in understanding and with that I made my way out of the police station.  Checking my phone I saw I had a text message from Larry that they were all at the main house and that the babies were there.  I was making my way to the house when Michael called me informing me that he had made it back and was having a hard time getting in touch with anyone else.  He needed a ride from the airport could I please come get him.  As I was only a few blocks from the airport I told him I would be there in a matter of a few minutes.  I needed the time to get my mind right before I got home.  I knew I couldn’t relay to the guys what I had read in that report.
