Waking Elizabeth part 1

Brian's POV I couldn't believe what I was hearing from this man. Not only had I identified the sister that we all loved and adored and missed like crazy but that same woman was the love of his life.  He's been a part of our band for close to six months now.  He told us all about his last case and how he had fallen in love with the bravest girl he had ever met. He explained about getting a really terrible man off the streets and getting her away from him but that the man he was after had placed a hit on him.   How the hit had went down and his crew couldn't get to the girl before she took off and disappeared.  How he had spent months looking for her and had almost caught up to her quite a few times but she slipped away.  How he had decided to finally come here and join a band in hopes that she would make her way back to the city and find her family.  This woman he had been talking about all this time was my sister.  The other guys were going to be shocked and over joyed.  We had been speculating at what kind of jerk would leave a woman pregnant and alone like that and we were all ready to find the jerk and teach him a lesson in how a woman should be treated.  The very idea that our sister would be with someone that would leave her in that way was killing us.  We had hoped that our sister would end up with someone like Michael here because he was killing himself for not protecting her better.  He loved her. The very fact that she wasn't abandoned but instead he had been here all along hoping and waiting for her to show up was more than any brother could hope for. It explained why it seemed like David was having such a hard time actually tracking her down.  He had contacts that oridinary dectectives didn’t have and still couldn’t trace her after she had told us she was going to New York.  We wanted to check on her and make sure she was doing well even if she didn’t want to see us.  None of us could figure out why but now it made sense. "Michael are you saying that my little sister here and the woman you've been trying so hard to find is one in the same?"  Michael looked at me and just nodded his head.  He was speechless as his gaze went back to my sister laying that bed.  Tubes and IV's everywhere.  "She's been through so much since she had to go live with your uncle." The emotion was tearing at his voice and I could tell he was holding back the tears.  "She wanted to tell you guys so much but he told her that he would kill you all and she believed he would.  If the information she helped us obtain is true he would have carried out that threat and she knew it. Your uncle was responsible either directly or indirectly for the deaths of more than two dozen people.  Some of them were even in what was considered protective custody.  There was even one it the witness protection program.  Your uncle had a reputation for getting rid of people who blew the whistle on him with authorities.  She knew what kind of danger she was facing when she kept going back and getting more information.  I kept begging her to let me take her out of there but she refused.  She said she needed to do it for a few reasons. One being she needed to make sure he could never hurt her or her family, you guys and your wives, again.  Two she wanted to make sure that he would never hurt anyone else again."  He then walked over to the bed, took hold of her hand and started sobbing uncontrollably.  "Moondrop honey I'm here.  I'm never going to let anything bad happen to you ever again. I’m so sorry for not telling you the complete truth that day and this would have never happened.  I love you please wake up for me baby. Please let me see those beautiful eyes of yours again."   We sat there for about three hours when four men burst through the door of Elizabeth's room.  I was shocked and a little uncertain by this sudden onslaught but Michael seemed unfazed and they didn't put off the aura of being dangerous to my sister.  They all seemed to have concern and fear written on their faces and searched out Michael and then my sister.  Each one flocked to the bed and surrounded her and him.  The one that I determined to be the leader put his hand on Michael's shoulder "we're all so relieved that you've finally found her.  But we are also saddened that she's in a coma. Any word on when she'll wake up?"  Michael shook his head and pointed him in my direction.  "That's Brian my buddy, her brother and a doctor he can fill you in.  I just can't think or speak right now." The guy they all called Chad told him that was understandable.  Then he made his way over to me and started asking me questions.  I answered him to the best of my ability and then I had a few questions of my own.  I wanted to know exactly what these guys thought they were going to do to help my sister.  Chad looked at me and very seriously said "we are all going to protect her and those babies with our lives no matter what it takes.  I know we aren't going to get Michael out of here any time soon, he's spent the past eight months going out of his mind trying to find her so I need you to take three of my guys to your place where we can set up a base of operations.  They will help you fill in the rest of your brothers as to what it going on and everything you learned today is that ok with you?"  I nodded my head in the affirmative and we headed off. David’s POV When Brian arrived back at the house the guys and I were curious to see the extras with him.  Brian explained that these were three of Michaels squad buddies and they flew all the way from DC as soon as they heard that he needed them. We were all confused as to why Michael would need his buddies but it seemed that they were going to explain so I let it go at that.  They were here to protect Elizabeth and the babies until it was certain that they were all safe.  Then with the help of the guys Brian sat down and explained to all of us that Michael was the father to our beautiful little nieces.  He explained that the woman Michael kept talking to us all about was none other than our beautiful sister.  We all at one point or another had talked about how we wished our sister, wherever she was, would find a man that loved her as much as Michael loved his moondrop.  It was amazing to find out that she had.  That she was moondrop.  Then came the hard part.  The guys filled my brothers and I in on what our sister had to endure the last few years at uncle's place. I couldn't tell them I was wracked with guilt at not picking up on the clues when I was there.  Brian was a medical professional and he felt that he should have seen the signs of abuse and neglect but never did. As if he was reading our minds John reached over and gripped Brian’s shoulder while looking over at me and I said "I'm a professional to my brothers, I missed the signs as well."  That's when all the guys joined in talking about what they missed and how they should have tried harder to get her back home.  How they shouldn't have believed that she would willingly walk away from us all.  Larry seemed to be taking it the hardest.  He was the one that as far as the courts were concerned had any real claim because he was blood related so out of all of us, he would be the one most likely to get custody.  Brian grabbed his arm and asked "are you ok there brother?  You're awfully silent."  He looked up at all of us with tears in his eyes and said "I hope that man dies a thousand deaths for what he has done to our sister and for what he did to our mother.  No wonder she never talked about her side of the family.  How could someone be so cruel.  We should have insisted on visiting with her more than we did.  Maybe we would have caught the signs.  We should have insisted when she turned eighteen that she come back with us instead we believed she was still upset with us."  One of the guys spoke up and said "You guys couldn't have known.  We didn't even know the full extent of the abuse your sister received until after the hit went down.  She never told us the full extent but there are medical records that show just how bad it was for her.  Don't beat yourselves up instead give yourselves a pat on the back that between you men and your parents you raised one hell of a woman. If it wasn't for her there would still be a dozen women who would be suffering at the hands of your uncle and now, they are free." We all looked at the men and thanked them for their kind words even if we didn't quite believe them ourselves.  Then we asked why they were so involved in just a person that was part of a case.  Surely, they have had witnesses in the same kind of danger and been able to pass it off somewhere else.  They said the answer was simple.  Their partner and brother had fallen in love with this woman and when he did, she became a huge part of their tight knit family as well.  That once you became a part of their family you stayed that way and they would do everything in their power to protect their new sister and as it turned out little nieces.  These little girls would be so lucky and so protected.  Now all we needed to do was wake their mother. Then two, strike that three families would be complete. I then looked at them and said “I wish my old crew was as tight knit as you guys all are.  Things would have been very different if that were the case.  Who knows maybe I would still be with the agency.”  They all nodded their heads in understanding and one of them spoke up “Not every squad is as tight as ours that’s for certain.  I thought that you might have been and agent before just by the way I noticed you observing and listening to everyone.” I just smiled at him and let him know that he had me pegged correctly.  Then he looked at me and asked the million dollar question “why aren’t you an agent any longer?”  I looked him straight in the eye and told him matter of factly “I’m gay and my old squad couldn’t handle that information.  The guys on my squad were uncomfortable with my sexuality even though I assured them I had no feelings for any of them. They didn’t want to be around a gay man.”  My brothers all looked at the new people in our lives and then Larry spoke up and said “if any of you have a problem with that then you can just leave as well.  We won’t tolerate our brother being treated differently just because of who he chooses to love.”  One of the guys looked at me and said “that’s a damn shame.  I’ve heard of your reputation and the agency lost a great agent when you left.  Those dumb f***s in your last squad really cost the government a great man.  If you would have been on our squad you would have been accepted without a blink of an eye.”
