Sin of Lust by Swapie Achilles
CHAPTER II
The darkness enveloped the surroundings creating a masterpiece, where the inky yet bright canopy of different colors spread across the vast sky.
While the children are peacefully sleeping, seldom footsteps can be heard walking towards a certain room.
The creaking sound of the door opening was heard and a voice spoke, “What do you want, Novelyn?”
Daleon didn’t even have to looked up from his paper works to see who’s inside as he spoked up. But Novelyn didn’t hesitate to enter without permission, closing the door behind her.
The sound of lock captures Daleon’s attention. Making him looked at the intruder.
The older nun only stood at the door way with her head hanging low and her hands behind her.
The situation alerted the male, “Hey!” he yelled.
Without wasting a second, the older female runs towards him. Even though the lamp was the only light in the room Daleon can clearly see the burning rage on her eyes.
“In the name of Luxuria! Burn in hell!” Novelyn pulled her hands behind her revealing a knife.
But Daleon is swift avoided the attack, making Novelyn stumbling on his desk. Leaving the desk and papers disorganized.
“You f*****g old woman!” Daleon said between gritted teeth. His knitted eyebrows show extreme annoyance.
The woman aimlessly swings the knife in her hand trying to kill the revered. “Die! Die! Die!” She utters with pure hatred as she swings the blade.
Her actions didn’t go futile for she was able to land a hit on his cheek. Though the wound is shallow it still bleeds that brought pain to Daleon.
To which angered the revered. The attempts of Novelyn goes on until she tripped, leaving her with dislocated knee.
She wanted to scream but that would alert everyone. With her resolve to keep it down, she swallowed her pained screams.
Daleon took advantage of her situation, and he decided to push the heavy book-filled shelf on her. His act is slow and was easy to dodge but with the lady’s current state, she can’t run.
As Novelyn saw the gradual movement of shelf, she tried to crawl her way out. But Daleon harshly stepped on her hand.
“Let go! Let me go, you bastard!” She yelled, punching his leg. But the man only scoff.
The old lady put up a fight to remove his foot but he was way stronger than her. The old lady gasped as she saw the nearing shelf.
Running out of time, the shelf finally falls down on her. Completely crushing her head under the heavy weight.
Her head bleeds, tainting the wooden floor of his office. But with her last breath, she tried to reach out her hand to him before falling down on her warm blood, soaking her clothes.
The man sighed in relief, but immediately went agitated when he realized he needs to act instantly about it.
He walked out of the room and run towards the ministers’ sleeping area. He knocked on the door, banging it till someone open.
“What is it? It’s too early for the ceremony.” A man yawned as he opens the door.
But Daleon was immediate to act, “It’s Novelyn!” He perfectly said in panic and terror.
“What’s in Luxuria’s name happened here?!” Every minister and some of the nuns are inside his office.
Some gasped and cried at what they saw and some of them passed out.
“Novelyn came here, and she said she wanted to give her thanks to me. And I okay, please sit.” He said with a sad expression. “Before she sat down, I was about to return a book on the shelf, but she insisted on my behalf.”
Everyone listened at him. Believing every lies he’s spewing.
“And when she’s near, she suddenly tripped. Knocking the shelf on her. I didn’t get the chance to save her.” He said with tears brimming on his eyes. “Everything happened too fast.”
The others believe him and cried at the story. The minister removed the shelf from Novelyn’s dead body.
Revealing the horrendous sight before them. Lots of blood squandered all over the body.
And when they turned her body around, her face is completely squashed like a grapefruit.
Nuns are crying and so is Daleon, which made his act more believable. Making some of them comforted him.
Cupping his face with both of his hands pretending crying while underneath it, he’s sickly smiling.
“What are we going to tell the kids?” One of the nuns said to the other.
“They need to know.” The other simply answered.
“But they will be shocked and devastated if they learn the truth.” The previous nun said.
The other one sighed. “I guess we need to hide it for the mean time. Let’s just say she’s away for a while.”
“You’re right. We’ll tell when they’re ready.”
Morning has come and everyone is in the dining hall. When everyone was already seated Blanche was the first one to notice.
“Huh? Sister Novelyn is not yet here.” She said from her seat.
Making the other kids turn their heads around and looked for the said lady. “Maybe she overslept?”
Those who knew the truth are clenching their fists and furrowing their brows as they heard the innocent assumptions of the children.
“K-kids,” The other nun gained their attention. “She went away and she said she’s not going to be here for a while.” she lied through the skin of her teeth.
“Huh? Where would she be?” Caspire, the youngest of them asked.
“She…uh, S-she went to the Democratic Land of Sierra.” The nun stuttered, looking away from the innocent eyes of the boy.
Caspire lowered his head, tears slowly pooling on his eyes. “She said she’ll let me fly my kite with her today.” He hiccupped.
His tears made the other kids also teary, making almost of them sob. “She didn’t even say g-goodbye to us.”
Their lonely cries filled the banquet until Daleon spoked, “Everyone, I know it’s hard for all of us. But don’t worry, she’ll be back before we knew it.”
“Really?” Benzel the second youngest asked, while hugging Caspire.
Daleon smiled on them and said, “Yes, of course. Have I ever lied to you?”
Every kid smiles again. Trusting each word that comes from him. But Blanche remained looking at his smile, ‘I don’t like this feeling.’
