Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.   “Oh, mi alteza, mi Dios, escucha nuestros corazones y ruegos…” Chorus of little kids sang the song with their eyes close, grasping the feelings of the hymn. The sunlight that seeps through the mosaic windows of the church illuminated the ceremony inside. The people in the church are kneeling in front of a statue that is holding a huge scythe-like cross with their hopeful eyes looking at it. Some of the devotees are crying as if they’re sensing the presence of their god. “Préstanos tus manos santas y guíanos hacia tu luz. Escucha nuestros corazones y concede nuestros deseos.” The song ended as the angelic voice of the choir stops. “Venerate our great Luxuria! He will give you the greatest pleasure in life.” The priest said, holding both his hands up in the air. “Our great Luxuria, please give us the ultimate pleasure of life.” All of them answered simultaneously.   The ceremony has ended and everyone in the church started to leave. Leaving the choir and the priest inside. “That was great you kids, you sang so good.” The priest who’s known as Revered Daleon Valdez praised the little ones and bestowed them a warm smile. “Did I sing it well too? Did I? Did I?” A little girl excitedly asked the older man. Revered Daleon smiled at her enthusiasm and gently patted her head, “Yes you did, Blanche.” The little girl twirl around with genuine happiness etched on her lips. Her hair was bouncing with the wind along with her long white uniform cloak she’s wearing. But another girl that’s a year or two older than Blanche interrupted them, “Not fair! Blanche is good even if it’s her first time. While I…” she said with a small pout. Daleon saw the frustration in her and said, “Come here, Laila.” Laila begrudgingly trod towards him. He patted her head and gently said, “Laila, you have a very beautiful voice. You don’t need to compare yourself to Blanche, because both of you are equally gifted.” “It’s true! Laila has beautiful voice!” Blanche held her hand and gleefully said. Making the girl smile. “Everyone, listen. What’s more beautiful, a flower-shaped diamond or a heart-shaped diamond?” The gentle smile of Daleon never waver when he looked up and asked them. “The flower-shaped of course.” “No, it’s the heart-shaped.” “Yes, definitely the heart-shaped is way cuter.” “But I like them both.” “The flower-shaped is cuter!” The children argued on which diamond is more beautiful. And Daleon emitted a nervous laugh, as he didn’t expect it to turn out this way. Though he should never asked such question expecting them to answer with great knowledge with their feeble mind. “Okay kids. That’s enough.” He smiled at them. “You see, both diamonds are beautiful. And they’re equally worth the same. Just like each and every one of you. You are your own, and can never be compared.” The kids were amazed as they heard Daleon’s wisdom. Making the little Blanche smile widely with her bright rosy cheeks. “We are diamonds!”   “Of course, you are!” A slight shaky voice coming from the entrance door echoed. “It’s Sister Novelyn!” The kids gasped and run towards the lady who’s way older than Daleon and her smile grew wider. “Why don’t you change your clothes and I’ll introduce you to Sister Mary Jane.” Sister Novelyn said. Blanche tilted her head to the side and asked her, “Sister Mary Jane?”  “Yes, she’s our new sister.” The older female smiled down at her and beamed, “and she can’t wait to meet you. So, go now and change.” “Yes, Sister Novelyn!” Blanche and the other kids run out as she said those words. Novelyn watched the kids from the door as they run towards the edifice near the church that also serves as convent and orphanage where they live.   Daleon’s smiling figure walks to exit the church but as he neared to her, her smile faded into a menacing glare. “Luxuria will bring judgement upon you.” Her words made Daleon’s gentle smile turn into a wicked smirk, “Old Novelyn, Luxuria isn’t real.” He whispered menacingly on her ear. His smirked never fade as he exited the church and soon followed the children to the convent. But Novelyn’s glare only worsen.   “Hello everyone!” Said by the lady who seems to be a teenager to the kids around her. “Hi!” The children answered in chorus. Some of them are bouncing in excitement. “I am Sister Mary Jane Season, I am your new sister.” The new sister bowed a bit at their little figure and looked at them with a delicate smile. “Can I be friends with you?” “I can be your friend, sister! I will teach you how to bake our breads!” the young Blanche said raising her arm. “It’s tasty!” “Me too! I can be your friend, sister!” “Me too!” “Me too!” The kids one by one followed Blanche’s sincere offer. The said sister can’t help but let out a smile. “Really? I’ll look forward to it then.” She kneeled and pats her head, making the little girl giggle. Without others knowing, Novelyn stood there smiling the whole time. She can’t take her eyes off from the heart-warming scene she’s seeing.   “Kids! We will prepare our dinner, who wants to help?” A voice from another nun captures the children’s attention. They immediately run towards the nun to offer them their help, but Blanche remain on Sister Mary Jane’s side. “Why don’t we lend them a hand?” She smiled at the little girl. To which Blanche only replied with an excited nod.   The dinner is starting and everyone, the children, Sister Novelyn and Sister Mary Jane and the other nuns, are in the dining hall. Even revered Daleon is in there. Since there’s a huge number of them, they provided the dining hall with three large dining tables. A hand-bell was sounded by Daleon indicating that it’s time to pray. Making everyone close their eyes and clasped their hands just below their chins. “Tonight, we thank Luxuria for our food that we happily share in this table with our beloved brothers and sisters.” He said his prayers with his eyes close. But unbeknownst to him a deadly glare is watching his every move. “Thank you, Luxuria.” Everyone answered, making their voices echoed in the dining hall and everyone eat with contented smile on their faces.
