YOU AIN'T GOING NOWHERE

ISABELLE My wolf keeps on whimpering, whispering, sometimes screaming inside my head. I am confused, I don't know what to do after the dramatic turn of events. I came into this ballroom with a lot of expectations. Technically I am engaged to Robert now, but that's the furthest it can get. I now have a mate and that engagement can not hold. The lecture about mates as given to us by Robert's mother is still fresh in my mind and I know that he still remembers everything we were told. “Mate bonds are holy, sacred, made in heaven by our goddess. Everyone has a mate out there made for them. You should be patient until the day you find them. Anything else you do in haste before you find your mate I will not advice, but if it's what you want then I will not oppose." I remember those words very clearly as the Luna gave them to us in a motherly tone. After my mate declared and said the word, I found myself saying it too, and at that moment I came back to my senses to see the chaos erupting. He was escaping through the window as the Alpha declared that he should be captured and killed immediately. I screamed at the pursuers, instinctively, to spare him and that earned me a very harsh look from the Alpha. I saw him shaking his head in disgust before leaving in a huff, with a few fighters following closely behind him. Other guests are now leaving the party. What a pity, it hadn't even started. I am standing at the same spot I stood when the drama started. Robert is still out there, having gone after my mate. The Luna stays seated on her chair, looking at the unfolding scenario with a very enviable calm. Occasionally she drinks from her glass. Suddenly she turns towards me and our eyes are locked. She rises and approaches where I am standing. There is partial darkness because the chandelier that flooded the ballroom with light has been damaged and the only light is coming from security lights outside. “Isabelle, how are you doing now?" She asks as she holds my hand. I don't know how to respond but even if I did I don't even know how I am feeling. There are no words to describe my confusion therefore I stay quiet for a while and she waits patiently for an answer. “I don't know what to do. This is so complicated now." I say. I know that maybe she wants me to stick with her son so I weigh my words carefully. She looks at me deep in the eyes, and we stand facing each other for moments, and when she speaks she is certain of what she is saying. Her voice is strong. “Isabelle, you may not believe what I am going to tell you but I will tell you anyway. That man you saw, that mate of yours, go for him. What you were about to do with Robert was foolish but I only went along with it because his father was pushing it. Now that you have a mate, don't waste your time with Robert, or his father. Pack and go. You have my blessings." She says. “But I don't know where to start. As you saw, he wasn't even given time to get close to me. They are still out there hunting for him. I am confused. What exactly was his offence? Out of all these people who attended this party, why did they single him out? What has he done? I don't think declaring that I am his mate can cause all this fracas." I say once I establish that I can confide in her. She walks a few places away from me then comes back to my spot. “It's deeper than you think. Do you know who that man is?" She asks me. I shake my head to indicate that I know nothing. “Then you need to know. His name is Dwayne Clarke. He is the Alpha of the Sandbank pack, a pack of fighters. All they do is fight. They are feared all over this place because they fight with an energy never seen before. They are the only pack that has fought Ivan and lived to tell the tale. He came here in disguise but he is so conspicuous, I recognized him the moment he walked in but I kept quiet. I know him personally, he is a good person and if the two of you get together as decreed by the mate bonds, then you are going to be a great couple." She says. I keep quiet, waiting for her to add more words to this. “His pack is constantly fighting the famous rogue, Ivan the horrible. If you get together he will become a strong Alpha and maybe he will defeat this rogue that has been on their neck for years." She says. “And why was he chased away like a thief if as you say he is an Alpha? They should have accorded him some respect like they did to the other Alphas?" I ask. “They are our enemies. He shouldn't have come here in the first place. His pack and our pack are enemies. There was a time not very long time ago when some of our pack members rebelled against our Alpha. They were expelled from the pack and they sought refuge at the Sandbank pack. Our Alpha and his fighters, including Robert were not impressed with that. They went to wage war on the Sandbank pack but they were repulsed even before they entered the gates. Dwayne was in charge of the fighters of his pack. He wasn't an Alpha yet, his father was still in power. He warned them that should they start a war he'll concentrate on killing the Alpha only. They retreated but deep down they hate Dwayne so much. He has been a wanted man here for years. A death penalty was issued against him, so that anyone who sees him should kill him." She answers. Everyone has left the ballroom and there are only the two of us remaining. I am mesmerised by the words she has said. I slowly digest her words, and I feel some happiness, knowing that my mate is an invincible person. “Come, let's go home. This party wasn't meant to be. But you got lucky and found your mate even if that wasn't what was in your mind." She walks ahead of me and I follow behind her. The pack house is only a short distance from here and it takes us less than five minutes to get there. “What's your next move?" She asks me when we get to my room. It's unusual for her to come here but today she accompanied me to my bedroom. “As you said, I'll set out and find that man." I say. “Then you need to break up with Robert because the Alpha had already announced you as a couple. Also you need to leave here as soon as possible so as to stay away from Robert. If I were you I would leave this night." She says. “I will go looking for that man. I have captured the details of the direction of the Sandbank pack. I will take myself to him because I have seen how dangerous it is for him to come for me here." I say. Just then we hear a lot of commotion in the house and walk out to see what is happening. At the sitting room Robert is busy opening the fridge, looking for something. When he sees us he calms down. In his hand is a can of beer. “The bastard escaped. Too bad we didn't get him. I would have personally killed him." A furious Robert says. I don't understand why he would kill my mate yet he claims how he cares for me. I start feeling some hatred for him. “But Robert, that's my mate. You can't harm him." I say. “Your mate? Too late for that Isabelle. You now belong to me. You ain't going nowhere. To emphasize this, three days from today, you should get ready because that's when we will start living like a couple, in the same bed, same house, same room. Mother, advice her on what she needs to do as a future Luna." He barks the orders, then saunters out of the room. His mother is speechless, she seems not to believe what she has just heard. Some fear starts creeping up my spine.
