ADVICE FROM A LEGEND

1069 Words
DWAYNE “I know everything about your sojourn in the Riverine pack. I have my ways of knowing these things. They are things that were foretold." Father says when I ask him how he found out about my mate since I hadn't given out the details of my journey to anyone. “I am your father. Everything about your life must be revealed to me. Now sit back and listen to what I am going to tell you because it's very important." He says as he fills his cup with some drink from a nearby jug. I guess it must be a concoction of herbs collected from the woods nearby. When I was young I used to accompany him to the woods where we would uproot many herbs and peel the barks of other trees. The mixture would then be boiled in a big pot for hours and the resultant concoction would be strained into bottles. For days or even months he would take a cup of the concoction per day. He claimed that it kept some opportunistic diseases and infections away. Now he takes a sip of the seemingly bitter liquid, closes his eyes and clenches his teeth as it goes down his throat. Then he places the cup on the table and wipes a tear from his eye. The drink must be very bitter, but if it's the one responsible for his good health then it's worth the pain. “Listen my son." He finally says as he clears his throat, “The war you have been fighting with Ivan the horrible will now take a strange twist. He fights using sorcery and you can't subdue him without using special powers. You have those special powers, they were gifted to you a long time ago. But you can only use them once you have a mate, and not just anyone, but your true destined mate. Her name is Isabelle. There's more you should know about her but let me leave it at that." He pauses to take a sip from his cup. I wonder where he is going with this but I have learned to be patient. “When you were born, our seer said something very important. He said that you were the only person designated by our goddess to put an end to the most terrible rogue that has ever existed. Ivan the horrible. The seer said that our goddess had given you the knowledge that could help you do this, but you could only unlock this knowledge once you got your mate." He pauses again, takes a sip of the concoction, goes through the motions of closing his eyes and clenching his teeth, then wipes his eyes. “This is more bitter than I thought. It has more aloe vera than the recommended helping." He says about his drink. “The seer bestowed upon me very limited knowledge just to guide you along the way. That's why I always advice you on how to subdue this Ivan, but I don't have the knowledge to completely vanquish him. That knowledge, only you can have it, upon getting your mate." He says. The more he talks the more I get puzzled. “Now that you know where she is, it is up to you to go and get her. Robert will not let her go just that easily. You will have to fight to get her." He says. “Wait father! I don't think he has a choice. The girl has already spoken and I am sure of what I saw on her lips. She acknowledged that I am her mate. Robert will have to let her go and she will come to me. He is a wolf and he definitely knows everything about mates." He looks at me in disbelief, then pokes the fire with a long rod. The embers are beginning to die and he throws in some dry pieces of wood that light up immediately. The flames produce a lot of light that casts our shadows in the wall opposite us. “I would have laughed at that but it isn't funny. Robert will never let that girl go. Instead he is going to hold her prisoner, try to break her, because the whole of his pack now knows she is his girl. He can't afford the disappointment." Father says. I get up from my seat and walk around the room, thinking about the things he has just said. He watches me in silence. “Take Gael, your Beta and other serious fighters tomorrow. Don't go straight to the Riverine pack, but instead go and talk to Alpha Lazarus, my friend from the Greenpoint pack. His pack shares a boundary with the Riverine pack. Take my greetings to Lazarus and agree with him on how to organize an attack to rescue your mate from the grip of the evil Robert. Do this before it's too late because if you hesitate she may die and if that happens then rest assured that our pack may be annihilated by Ivan the horrible." He pauses to let that sink. Silence reigns between us. I expected to get home and go straight to bed. Now this! I was even a little sleepy but now I am all alert, thinking fast. I still believe that Robert can not be that stupid to hold the girl and prevent her from meeting her mate. Mate bonds are revered and taken as holy in the werewolf culture and it's unheard of for someone to do what father is saying. “Are you doubting what I have just told you? Why don't we wait for two days as we send a spy into the Riverine pack to tell us what is happening. I have someone in mind who can gather the information for us. Tomorrow I'll dispatch him and he'll report back to me. It's only two days. Let's wait and see what he gathers." He says. Now I am in agreement. Before going out to attack, we need to be sure that the attack is warranted, and there is no better way of finding out than sending a spy. “Well, on that I am in agreement. Let's wait for your spy." I say, getting up from my chair, exhausted and my brain at the verge of fatigue. “But Dwayne, learn to trust me." He says as I walk away.
