Gold’s mate

1208 Words
*Leroy POV* I turn my eyes to the Epsilon who has not responded to my question. “Is she my mate?” I repeat my question. He sighs and momentarily closes his eyes. “I need to know,” I insist even though my breathing is becoming laboured. “Down the line mate.” I glance at him, my frustration building up. Mate, second chance mate and rejected mate are all familiar terms, not this. “What the f**k does that even mean?” I don’t mean to shout at him but this is all so messed up. “You cannot handle her right now, Your Highness. There is too much animosity between her pack and ours. And her upbringing under us has been terror at most.” “I had nothing to do with that.” He sighs again and shakes his head. “It does not matter. The Alpha bares the sins of his pack.” I know that arguing with him will not change anything. I focus on getting the facts instead. “When will I be able to handle her?” “When the time is right. When the sins of your father have been righted. When the suffering has been healed.” “What the f**k am I supposed to do until then?” “Be the Alpha of Ruber city pack, Your Highness.” “With another mate?” “Technically, Gold is not your mate, yet. You are not even meant to feel her. What you feel for each other should have faded when you marked your mate.” “Should have?” He casts his eyes down. I have never seen him doubtful before. “I don’t have all the answers. She is a rare kind. Maybe it will still fade.” “Maybe?” That’s not comforting at all to me. “All I know so far is that her ovulation cycle infatuates every powerful Alpha or king. It’s worse than a siren. You will all go crazy and tear at each other in those days. She is only susceptible to the Luna blood moon.” “I need you to tell me directly what you are saying, please.” I am so desperate I can’t help it. Cali is going to continue summoning other Alpha’s during her ovulation. I need to know something to stay ahead. “Your bond should fade, except during the Luna blood moon when you will both have no control of what happens.” “That’s every two years!” “At most, but beware before that. You are a rival of many now, Your Highness. Our warrior numbers have dwindled.” I should take his warning serious but my head is still on Cali. “Does..does she have another mate?” He smiles and bows before vanishing as usual. I am left alone at the foot of the mountain with my head spinning. Fuck! “Sky.” I call on my wolf and get nothing. He is strangely very quiet. I wonder how much he heard. “Sky,” I call him again. “I told you to knock her up,” my stupid wolf accuses. “How was that going to solve anything?” “I don’t know but….” “What do we do with Phoebe?” “She’s our mate.” “Cali is our mate.” “Gold is her name and she’s not our mate yet.” So he was listening after all. “I don’t want her mated to someone else.” “I don’t think you have a choice in the matter.” “Why are you so accepting of this?” “I felt her suffering. She needs time away from here, from us.” “But we had nothing to do with her suffering Sky. We got her out of Diana’s house.” “Our DNA, the blood running in our veins is that of …” “No!” I don’t let him complete it. I did not choose my parents, no one does. “I am afraid we are her enemies.” I return home depressed. I wish I did not have a conversation with Sky. Phoebe is exceptionally kind, sweet, supportive and everything I aught to need. She has been here for five weeks yet blended so well with the pack. She is a perfect Luna. Confident, gracious and fair. I feel really bad for thinking about another woman when she is here. She walks into the study and starts massaging my tense shoulders. “You are pushing the warriors too hard. They need to rest,” she says and plants a kiss on my forehead. “I know, but our numbers are down. Every pack and probably every rogue out there knows it.” We have been training hard since my conversation with the Epsilon. None of the warriors have returned to university since the full moon. We are all corresponding our studies for now. They know that we are vulnerable but only Marcus knows about other Alphas and Lycans viewing me as a rival. Him and I have been training non stop. He is my Beta and will be by my side till the end. “Give them time to rest. It will do them good. You need to rest too,” she suggests before sitting on my lap, firing every nerve in my body. I wrap my arms around her waist and nibble on her ear. “I guess a break would not hurt.” Taking out my phone, I send Marcus a text to let the warriors rest for two days before turning all my attention to my mate. She giggles and wraps her arms around my neck before our lips meet into a hungry passionate kiss. Phoebe and I spend the next two days in bed. We can’t restrain ourselves. It’s the best feeling in the world. Gold is completely gone from my head. I am convinced that the bond has faded until one morning when my scent fills the air. Phoebe jumps out of bed and excitedly gets dressed. “She’s here!” I am dumbfounded for a moment. “It’s your scent but feminine. Lord I missed her. Cali is here!” She is out of our bedroom and already at the corridor when she utters the last sentence. My heart starts pounding. Terror and excitement. Why is she here? I quickly get dressed and rush behind my mate and stop her before she opens the front door. “Babe?” she questions. “She is mad. It might not be safe. Let me talk to her first.” Phoebe tries to argue but I cut her short. “I can’t lose you Phoebe.” She nods and lets me out to face our guest. An electric or maybe magnetic force pulls me towards her the moment I step out. “Gold?” I murmur. Head high and gorgeous like hell. Our eyes lock in a trance. They are more golden. So beautiful and so angry. She is the first to look away. I guess the pull has not faded yet. “I’m here for the descendants of my people. All of them.”
