"Where are we going, Darcy? Do you have a problem?" Hailey couldn't count how many times she asked her best friend where they were heading since Darcy picked her up from her house.
Earlier, she was surprised to find Darcy outside her door, looking sad. Darcy asked her to come along but didn't mention their destination. She was just pulled into her friend's car without any explanation and quickly left her house. She couldn't even remember if she locked the door when they left.
Her eyes widened when she saw Darcy park the car in front of a bar – the same bar where she met and had a one-night stand with a stranger.
"Join me in drowning myself with alcohol, Hailey. I want to get drunk now. That shameless Omar. He already has a destined mate and yet he still entered into a relationship with me," Darcy finally spoke about her problem. She suddenly burst into tears and repeatedly banged the steering wheel with her hands in front of her.
"Your problem won't go away if you hurt yourself, Darcy. Let's talk about your problem properly. Drowning yourself in alcohol is not a solution," she advised her friend. She didn't want what happened to her to repeat to her friend. That was because of alcohol, she gave away her precious jewel to a man she didn't know his name. And she promised herself that she would never get drunk again because what happened to her might happen again, or worse, she might end up having a one-night stand with another man.
"Now I understand how you felt when you discovered that your husband was cheating on you, Hailey. It's very painful. Especially since Omar was my first love," Darcy said, still crying but she stopped hitting the steering wheel.
She let herself release the pain in her chest through crying. It really hurts when you find out that the person you love is deceiving you. If she ever loves again and gets deceived, she doesn't know if she can handle it anymore.
"So, shall we go back to my house now?" she asked her friend, who was now feeling calmer and no longer crying. She will accompany her friend in drowning her sorrows in alcohol but they will do it inside her house and not in that bar.
"No, Hailey. I want to drink inside the bar," Darcy firmly refused.
Her expression suddenly became serious as she spoke again. "Do you know why I don't like to drink inside a bar anymore? It's because I had a one-night stand after I got drunk in this bar, Darcy," she confessed to her friend. Darcy was the first person she told about what happened to her that night.
"What? When did it happen? Why are you only telling me now about this?" Darcy's eyes widened in reaction. It seemed like she suddenly forgot her own problems.
"That happened after I left Alpha Tyron's house and decided to file for divorce. I got extremely drunk at the bar and ended up having a one-night stand with a guy I didn't know and barely saw his face. That's why I don't want you to get drunk at the bar because I don't want what happened to me to happen to you," she explained at length to Darcy, who was almost jaw-dropped while listening to her.
"Oh my goodness, Hailey! So that stranger was the one who took your virginity? Are you crazy?" her friend's eyes widened in shock. But a few seconds later, she quickly retracted. "Well, it's probably better that a stranger took your innocence than your cheating husband. At least, if you get pregnant, there won't be any trace of that cheating alpha."
"Let's not talk about that anymore, Darcy. It's over and done with, so there's nothing more I can do. I only told you about it to avoid any possible consequences if you get drunk inside the bar."
Hailey thought Darcy wouldn't proceed with her plan to get drunk inside the bar after hearing her story. But she was wrong because she suddenly got out of the car and walked inside the bar ahead of her. She had no choice but to get out of the car and follow her inside the bar. She couldn't leave her alone in that place especially since her mind wasn't in the right place at the moment. She might do something she would regret later.
"Sit down, Hailey," Darcy invited her as she approached her seat. There was no sign of heartbreak on her face now. She was smiling and seemed to be enjoying the lively music in the bar.
"I'm not going to drink—"
"I'm not telling you to drink with me, Hailey. Just accompany me so that if I get drunk, nothing bad will happen to me and I can go home safe and sound," Darcy quickly interrupted her.
She took a deep breath before sitting on the empty seat opposite her.
"I'll just have pineapple juice so I won't look foolish in front of you," she said after shaking her head at her friend's stubbornness.
"Okay. That's better." Darcy quickly ordered a bottle of wine for herself and pineapple juice for her. When their orders arrived, her friend eagerly started drinking her wine while she took slow sips from the straw in her glass of pineapple juice.
Before long, Darcy got drunk, so she decided to take her home. After paying for their orders, she stood up to assist Darcy. However, as she stood up, she suddenly felt dizzy. She felt like she was intoxicated, even though she hadn't tasted any alcohol at all.
She tried to walk towards Darcy, but she only managed to take one step before her vision spun even more. She felt like she was about to fall, so she gripped the edge of the table. Her surroundings started to spin faster. She closed her eyes tightly and shook her head vigorously, hoping the dizziness she felt would go away.
"D-Darcy," she uttered weakly, calling out her friend's name who was resting her head on the table due to extreme drunkenness.
Darcy just groaned and didn't bother to lift her head. Well, it seemed like her friend had been given a whole drum of alcohol to drink judging by the number of bottles she had emptied, so she really wouldn't be able to get up from her drunkenness. But she, who hadn't drunk any alcohol, felt strangely intoxicated. What could be causing her to feel this way? Could she be intoxicated by the smell of alcohol? Impossible.
"Hi, Hailey. Looks like you're drunk. Let me take you home now." A man suddenly approached her, even though she didn't know him.
"N-No," she weakly replied to the man. But he ignored her response, still embracing her and guiding her out of the bar. "N-No," she protested again, but she didn't have the strength to push away the man assisting her.
She felt not only drunk but also as if she had consumed a muscle relaxant, leaving her powerless. Once the man let go of her, she was sure she would collapse on the floor.
The man suddenly released her body without any warning, causing her to fall to the ground. Then there seemed to be a commotion around her, as if there was a fight near where she was lying down. She wanted desperately to open her eyes to see what was happening around her, but her eyelids felt heavy with sleepiness. It took several minutes of struggling before she felt her body being lifted from the ground.
Someone carried her in his arms. And she was sure that the owner of those strong arms was not the man who was with her earlier because the smell of their bodies was different. The man earlier smelled of alcohol, while the one carrying her now smelled pleasant and familiar. It's as if she recognized his scent from somewhere.
"Why is it that whenever we meet, you always seem to be in a vulnerable state? You really need someone to take care of you."
Before sleep completely engulfed her consciousness, she heard the man speak to her.
Strong knocks on the door of her house abruptly woke her from deep slumber. She got out of bed and walked towards the door of her room when she suddenly stopped and froze. Then she quickly scanned her surroundings. She was inside her room. How did that happen? Who brought her back home? What exactly happened last night? Where is Darcy?
