Chapter Five

1132 Words
Damien's POV If anyone told me I would be riding a carriage with a woman who makes my heart flutter and beat faster than ever today I would argue it and call them crazy or slay such an individual but here I was yelling atop my voice jokes I never knew that I know just to keep the strange woman company and she was responding quite well. "How do you put on a wolf?" I asked the woman. "Tell me." She yelled back from inside the carriage. "You wear wolf." I laughed and she laughed along with me. Her voice was sonorous and sounded like music to my ears, at that moment I regretted not listening to Paxton and taking a horse rider along, I would have been in the carriage with her and seen her facial expressions. I halted at a tavern and got us both some food, I didn't allow her to step out of the carriage out of fear that someone would recognize her and lay claims on her, my thinking was now weird and different but I felt the urge to take possession of her and protect her. I took the food to her inside the carriage and we ate together. She still looked pale and drained of energy and needed more rest and I was tempted to just find an inn and ensure she rested well but my cousin's coronation was equally important. "Thank you." She muttered. "For saving my life." She added. I nodded my head, unsure of what to say, if anyone who knew me saw me they'd be dumbfounded and terrified of how I'm suddenly tame and speechless in front of a woman, I've met my fair share of attractive women but there was something about this woman that was just different and I wasn't planning on letting her go. "I'm Damien, call me Damien." I found myself introducing myself. She paused for a moment, looked me in the eye and smiled weakly, I could tell she was masking pain beneath that smile of hers. "I'm Anaya." She whispered. "That's a heavenly name, it means beautiful, doesn't it? You look beautiful." I complimented. She blushed and tucked a loose strand of hair properly behind her hair, there was a stain left by the food she ate at the corner of her lips and I wiped it with my thumb, her lips felt extremely soft and tempting as if they were calling me into a union with mine. We stood still for a moment, staring into each other's eyes and then my hand slipped and hit her shoulder, she flinched and winced in pain. I felt her pain. "Why would anyone want you dead Anaya?" I asked quietly remembering the circumstances that led to our meeting. "I don't know." She responded, soberly. "You can tell me about it and I promise to take revenge on whoever it is right after we finish my cousin's coronation at the Greenwood pack, I'll even ask him for help since it's around his dispensation." I offered, feeling the need to protect. She stiffened as if remembering an unpleasant memory but I gently took her hands in mine and stroked them lovingly. "It's fine, you don't have to tell me anything," I assured her. She nodded and gave me an apologetic look, it was becoming awkward so I cleared my throat and motioned that we resume the journey since I didn't want to run late for the ceremony, our next stop was at a fashion house where I paid a huge sum of money to get their best outfit just for Anaya to look good. The rest of the journey was quiet and I felt a prick at my heart, I wanted to console her but I couldn't, an hour later, we arrived at the Greenwoods pack and guards were there to receive me, the place was bustling with life and tons of werewolves and I caught sight of Caspian making his way through the crowd just to see me. He was excited at my presence and a contented look graced his face as the people murmured and gasped as they realized who I was. "Uncle Damien!" Caspian exclaimed. I chuckled as I alighted from the horse and gave the reins to a guard whom I also stopped as he tried to leave, my arms were wide open and Caspian embraced me, though there was bad blood between his father and I get I adored him since he wasn't a part of it. "I'm glad you could make it! I had second thoughts about your coming." He muttered. I chuckled as I broke the hug and his face beamed with smiles. "I'm proud of you Caspian, how could I miss this for the entire world? Though I've been secluded from the rest of the world you are more important to him." I assured him. I said this to boost his reputation among other alphas, they wouldn't dare to cross him after knowing our relations. "There's someone I'd love you to meet." He said as if suddenly remembering it. I gave him a nod of approval and he disappeared for a moment into the crowd and resurfaced with a very beautiful girl that looked oddly familiar. "Meet my mate and luna-to-be; Olivia, Olivia this is my uncle, Alpha Damien." Caspian excitedly introduced us. Olivia curtsied and flashed me a beautiful smile and I could see that the two were madly in love with each other as they kept stealing glances at each other, I shook my head at their foolishness and felt a tug at my heart, I began to feel what they felt towards a certain person. I gasped! I had forgotten Anaya. "You have to meet someone too," I announced and they all froze. I walked gingerly to the carriage and leaned in, Anaya was looking nervous and conflicted, I was confused but she was quick to mask it with a smile. "Would you like to meet my family?" I offered, stretching out my hand. "With pleasure." She smirked and took my hand. I escorted her out of the carriage and she walked gracefully to the crowd awaiting her, they all wore a bewildered look while she was calm and collected. "Caspian, meet...." "Winter." Anaya cut in. I was taken aback but played along quite well. "She's my..." "Wife." She interrupted, once more. I turned to face her and she smiled lovingly at me before proceeding to gently caress my face and interlink her arm with me. "How can this happen?" Caspian marvelled, his face as white as a ghost and his woman was also pale, all colour drained from her face. "I'm Winter, Damien's woman and mate, it is an honour to bless your coronation," Anaya said sassily.
