CHAPTER 5: Unspoken tension HANNAH’S POV I had married Maxwell due to the arrangement my parents made for me to marry him. I loved Maxwell wholeheartedly but the love was not mutual and it was just one sided love. It was obvious that I was the only one trying hard to make things work but all my efforts was to no avail because it wasn’t fruitful in any way. I was a very clingy lover who showed true love to Maxwell but he wasn’t reciprocating it to me and he just repelled every feeling of mine. “So what next?!” I asked my husband while we were in the room, few weeks after our honeymoon. “Next as how?!” I don’t understand.” He said, looking at me with disgust written all over his face. “I mean what couples do.. I..” I tried to explain how horny I was to him. “I’m not in the mood for all of that.” Maxwell said sharply. I immediately held his neck, drew it closer and kissed his soft lips. He removed his lips and cleaned it but then I held him closer and kissed him passionately and he couldn’t repell the s****l urges. We undressed ourselves and then we had s*x that fateful day. “Do you like it?” I asked Maxwell as I was wearing my underwear back. “Like what? It was just a coincidence, don’t think it’s something serious.” Maxwell countered my feelings. “Are you for real? Do you want more? Should I?” I asked, trying to move closer and seduce him. “Go wash yourself up! You stink!” Maxwell shouted angrily, taking his singlet and walking out of the room. “Maxwell! Maxwell!!” I screamed with my teary eyes and sad countenance but all my shout turned on deaf ears. I sat down on the bed crying so hard about all that had happened, I felt used and useless. He made me look like I had nothing good about me and I was such a jerk and disgusting human. I could tell that Maxwell didn’t love me, his heart was for someone else and it was definitely not me I wondered if things would change and I just carried my cross all by myself even though it was like a death wish, I had no other choice then to continue with the marriage of two weeks. The next morning in our mansion, Maxwell continued as though nothing happened the previous day but I just kept quiet for peace to reign in the house. “Where are you going to?” I asked my husband, when he was about to step out the house with his briefcase. “Are you blind? Can’t you see me with briefcase? You should be wise enough to know that I’m going to my office.” Maxwell responded. “But you are now the CEO and you shouldn’t be in a hurry to go to the office early in the morning.” I told him. “So you want to be the one teaching me how to run my company? I’m the CEO and I choose to do whatever I like whenever I please.” Maxwell responded. “Are you going early because of your secretary—Sarah. You love her right? You prefer her than me?” I asked my husband. “Snap out of it. She’s better than you!” Maxwell said, devaluing my worth. “Really? Me?” I asked him with a teary eyes. “Excuse me!” Maxwell said, banging the door and walking out of the house. Tears rolled down my eyes as I felt broken and embarrassed for my husband to pick his secretary over me. No woman would ever appreciate that kind of thing. I cried and cried till there was no longer strength in me to cry any more. At that I felt that was it and it was over because I could no longer cope with such treatment. I left the house for a while and took a walk down to the grocery just to clear my head. …………… “Hello! Good evening.” I greeted a lady who looked just like me. “What?! Is this an illusion or something?” The lady screamed after seeing that we looked alike in a very strange way. “My name is Hannah and you?” I asked her politely. “I’m Isabella.” She replied my question. “You look just like me.” I told the lady with a countenance of worry. “Yes we do look alike and I’m really surprised about that.” Isabella said. Just like how a light bulb is being switched on and electricity is being produced. I felt like something switched on my brain and an idea came in suddenly to me. “Can we talk?” I asked Isabella bluntly. “Yeah. We could sit under the tree and talk for a while.” She responded positively. “Can I know more about you?!” I asked Isabella politely with an heartwarming and infectious smile. “Well, nothing much. I am currently divorced after being married to a billionaire and he quit the marriage because his parents complained that I came from a poor family.” Isabella said. “Really? That’s serious!” I shouted, after being shocked by her revelation. “Yes. The worst thing is that my mother is currently at the hospital waiting for a surgery. It cost five million dollars and I have been looking for the money but all to no avail.” She explained. As a fellow woman, those words hit me like a thousand knives in my chest. I offered to help her and she accepted. But the condition I gave was that she will take my position as Maxwell’s wide pending the time that I regain my mental health. I thought her everything she needs to know about Maxwell so he won’t suspect. After some days, I traveled from Oklahoma to another city where I had an accident and everything changed in a way I never expected. I lost my life in the accident and I never got to see Maxwell and Isabella ever again. But what will be the fate of Isabella? What will Maxwell do? And what will my parents do to Maxwell?
