Lilith
Pain. Pain. Pain.
All I could feel was pain.
I groaned in discomfort when my body exploded from all sorts of agony. There was darkness everywhere and it terrified me to end, where am I? I willed my eyes to open, I really tried but it seemed glued shut, the pain was slowly increasing making it unbearable.
I felt a sting in my arm and I unconsciously flinched, I could hear a distinct voice as if someone was talking. It was an unfamiliar voice but I couldn't hear what they were saying, as it was all disoriented. Slowly the pain lessen and I plunged into a deep slumber.
The next time I woke up, this time without pain, I was able to open my stubborn eyes. I blinked rapidly to adjust to the darkness and get rid of the blurriness. I was lying on a soft surface, probably a bed that was very comfortable. I tried to get up but the wound on my stomach made me double over in pain, maybe laying back was a better idea.
"You are awake."
A voice came from somewhere in the dark room almost giving me a heart attack, suddenly the room was flooded with bright light and I was sure I went blind for a second. I closed my eyes and opened again to get used to the brightness.
Then I looked around with my slightly blurry eyes for the source of that voice. It was a little difficult but I found a silhouette at some distance from where I was.
"Who are you? And what is this place." I asked and closed my eyes once again rubbing them with my fingers to get rid of the annoying blurriness, how long was I out?
"My name is Draven and you are at my house. Are you in pain again? I will call the doctor." His voice was so deep and manly, I was sure I swooned at the concern tone that laced his heavenly voice. I kicked myself mentally for thinking about an unknown Man in this way, for all I know he could be a man in his late forties and full of wrinkles.
"I don't think that will be necessary Mr Draven. I -"
My words drowned in my throat when I opened my eyes. My vision was clear and I was left mesmerized by the artwork of God standing in front of me. How can a man possibly be this beautiful? He looked fictional!
You know the ones with soft dark hair that fell on their eyes, eyes the lightest shade of blue or was it grey? sculpted face and jaw that could cut anything on earth, body of a Greek god and height over 6 ft. The ones you read about in fictional romance stories, yes he was standing in front of me and I realised I was shamelessly staring.
"Um I'm sorry. I don't need the doctor, I am fine Mr Draven."
"I saw you wincing in pain earlier, it's not a small thing. I'll ring the doctor." He insisted, his perfect eyebrows pulled together and his lips set in a straight line, is he trying to kill me with his hotness? It was totally working.
I shrugged in response since my throat felt dry all of a sudden. I reprimanded myself for thinking about him in inappropriate ways, it was not at all acceptable for me, someone who had never even spared a glance at any man in her life. Here I was already fawning over his good looks.
What is wrong with me?
"He will be here in a minute. Do you need anything?"
"Water please."
He came closer and poured some water in the glass from the jar placed next to the bed. Bringing the glass closer he pressed it to my lips urging me to have a sip.
Relief and satisfaction filled me as I sipped greedily finishing all of it in one go. He chuckled amused.
"Slow down little wolf, you want more?" I nodded and he filled another glass for me. There was a knock on the door, an Asian old man with a briefcase and white lab coat entered the room.
"Hello, I am Dr Nicami. How are you feeling? Any pain? Discomfort?" He greeted both of us and then inquired as he set up his briefcase on the table next to where I was laying.
"She was in pain earlier when she woke up. Give her something for that." Draven piped in before I could open my mouth, I rolled my eyes at that, which made my head hurt more.
"Actually I was trying to get up and accidentally put some pressure on the wound, nothingness serious." I said sparing a glance at Draven who was cautiously watching the doctor's every movement, still holding the glass in his hand.
"You will feel some dizziness initially but it will go away eventually. Make sure you don't move much as your wound has not yet healed and the stitches may be pulled. I have prescribed some medicines make sure to take them on time." He tore a piece of paper from his book and Draven took it from him before I could, studying it carefully. He walked Dr Nicami to the door and came back to my side.
"Are you sure you are okay?"
"Yes I'm pretty sure."
He accepted my answer and settled on a chair besides the bed, I was curious. A lot of questions were swarming in my mind that I needed answers to. Will he give me those answers? Should I ask him?
"Ask away little wolf. I'll answer the best I can." He smiled at me, amused. A little dimple appeared on his left cheek that I did not notice before.
"How did you know I wanted to ask something?" Can he read minds? I silently gasped at the possibility.
"It's all over your face sweetheart. And I would be grateful if you provide me with your name. It don't mind calling you little wolf but I don't think you will like it very much." He was teasing me, the nerve.
"Lilith. My name is Lilith."
"Such a beautiful name. It suits you." I did my best to control my flaming cheeks but I'm sure it was resembling a deep shade of red. I was never good with compliments, but I never got many so it was a new experience for me.
"Thanks." I muttered quietly looking down at the duvet that covered most of my body, playing with edges. I looked around the room, now noticing just how regal it way. The walls were covered in a cream shade with black furniture. Small paintings decorated the walls, giving them life. It was easily the size of my pack house combined. The thought of my old pack made my heart ache with betrayal.
"You like the room, I guess?"
I almost forgot he was here.
Liar.
"Yes. It's beautiful." I tried not to reflect my emotions on my face, i vividly remember that day, when everything changed. Everything that was mine was snatched. All of a sudden, in a snap I was all alone once again, I didn't have anything left.
"What's troubling you Lilith? You can tell me."
"Why am I here? How did I get here?" I asked, anything to avoid his question. Anyway this should have been my very first concern from the moment I gained consciousness, what if he was a kidnapper?
"I found you in a forest half conscious, bleeding, so I brought you here." His eyes sparkle with something unknown to me, his face had lost all traces of amusement and tease, he was serious.
"Thank you for helping me. I owe you." I managed a small smile.
"I couldn't just leave you there." He matched my smile and ran a hand through his hair, the air had become awkward and thick with tension. He was curious, he wanted to know how I got into that situation. In due time, maybe I'll open up to him.
"I'll ask someone to bring your Medicine, you should rest some more." I nodded and watches him leave. I was not tired at all, my head hurt, in fact everything hurt but I don't want to sleep. Afraid that the images of my past may break me beyond repair.
The stab left a deadly wound on my body but also an ugly scar on my heart, my heart was broken to pieces. I let out a bitter laugh at my situation, moon goddess must be having a great time watching me struggle, that's what my life had become since the day dad left me forever.
Was it a crime that I wanted my rightful place in my pack? With the people I considered mine? Why was I punished for asking something that was mine since the day I took my first breath in this world. It was no secret that my family hated me, I knew it from the very start but what I did not know was the extent they would go to get me out of way.
But I am here now, still breathing and very much alive. They may be rejoicing in my absence but I will be back to take what is mine.
I lay alone in the room that did not belong to me, in an unknown house with unknown people I feel safer than I did around my own.
