The following day the three young wolves leave for Mummy Mountain. Dora is still passed out, and she is not going to wake up soon. She is sleeping like a log, and although they tried to wake her up, they know she will not wake up until noon. They drive out to Mummy Mountian and stop at a little inn to have breakfast as they were in a hurry and did not want to wait for breakfast. After eating a large breakfast of bacon, eggs, and pancakes, they leave and go to Mummy Mountian. As soon as they reach Mummy Mountain, the map grows again, and Maisie gets a bit tired of this growing map. How many places do they still have to go to reach the treasure? Maisie looks at Stew and Rufus. She likes to see them this happy, and she can not wait until they take their pack back and live like this forever. They will be happy and respected, and her uncle will be dead. He and his rogue army will be dead by the next full moon, she swears. She prays to the Moon Goddess to help them and help them get their pack back.
She grabs her pencil and paper and starts drawing the map and placing it on the map of modern America. Their next destination is the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is not far from where they are now, about a four-hour drive. They will leave for the Grand Canyon the following day, and Dora will come with them. They all feel she will try to stall them as she loves Las Vegas, but they have no time to lose. They need to find this treasure and fast. They will make her leave, and she will have no say. It is three against one. Stew is looking into the Grand Canyon.
"Hey, did you guys know that about 770 deaths have occurred at the Grand Canyon between the mid-1800s and 2015? Of the fatalities that occurred from 1869 to 2001, some were as follows: 53 resulted from falls; 65 were attributable to environmental causes, including heatstroke, cardiac arrest, dehydration, and hypothermia; 7 were caught in flash floods; 79 were drowned in the Colorado River; 242 perished in airplane and helicopter crashes; 25 died in freak errors, and accidents, including lightning strikes and rock, falls; and 23 were the victims of homicides," Stew says. Rufus rolls his eyes. He knows Stew wants to scare him again. He is not going near the Grand Canyon. He will stand at a distance and watch.
As soon as they are done with the map, they take a trail and walk-up Mommy Moutain. They are have not run their wolves for a long time and decide to go off the path and leave their clothes in some trees and run with their wolves up the mountain. They will make sure no humans see them and only run up the Mountian and back as they change into their wolves behind trees. Maisie gets the smell of rotten flesh. She knows what that means. Rogues! They smelled it for too long with her uncle's army of Rogues. She, Stew, and Rufus are on the lookout as all of them smell it. They know they are in danger. Maisie walks to where the smell is coming from. They see an old Rogue surrounded by younger rogues getting ready to attack him in front of them. She feels sorry for the old rogue, and her wolf feels stronger than before. Before she knows what she is doing, her wolf attacks, she jumps on the nearest young rogue that looks like the pack leader. She instantly kills him as she grabs him by the neck before he can react. Rufus and Stew attack as they see their Alpha attack. The old rogue also helps to attack the younger rogues, and soon it is just blood everywhere as the young rogues die one after the other. Maisie does not know where she got the courage to attack the younger rogues. As the bloody fight ends, the old rogue walks over to Maisie. He looks her in the eyes. He is old, and he can not take on this young Alpha. He owes her his life. The wolves of Las Vegas were ready to help the three young wolves, but when they saw the power of Maisie, they knew she did not need their help, and they backed down into the shadows again. They make sure Maisie and the other wolves with her do not pick up their scent. They look at Maisie in awe. They know their leader is strong, but he is not as strong as this young she-wolf. They will have to report back to him. Darius is not going to be happy if he knows that the three wolves are in grave danger. He will be delighted to know that Maisie and her friend could defeat a hold pack of rogues by herself, though. He will feel happier if he knows just how strong Maisie is. It will take a lot of wolves to bring her down, and her two friends are strong as well.
The old rogue lays down in front of Maisie to show his submission. She runs back to where she left her clothes and changes back to her human form. She quickly gets dressed and steps out from behind the trees. Stew, Rufus, and the old rogue did the same. They are all dressed and in human form.
"I am Mason Crow. I owe you my life, Alpha," The old rogue says, and he looks like he has not eaten for a while now.
"Call me Maisie. This is Stew and Rufus," Maisie says.
"Well, thank you, Maisie," The old rogue says, and the three of them invite him back to their hotel in Las Vegas so he can have a bath and eat. Mason is happy. He has not eaten or had a bath for a long time. They drive to the hotel, and the old rogue stinks a bit. Rufus now understands why the other two were complaining when he did not take baths or a shower. As they get to the hotel room, they give the old rogue some clean clothes and show him where to use the bathroom. They order a lot of food, and when the rogue comes out of the bathroom, he looks much better, and his hair is clean, and he has shaved. He sees the food, and the kids invite him to help himself. He eats like he has not eaten in a long time. He is hungry, and he is living on scraps.
"So why did the young wolves attack you?" Maisie asks.
"They are new here, and that is my territory. I lived there for years, but the young wolves came up there a few days ago and told me to leave. I had nowhere to go as it was the only place I knew for years. This morning they attacked me, and if it were not for you, I would have died," The old Rogue says.
"So your name is Mason Crow? You lived all your life here?" Stew asks. The next moment Dora storms into the tiny dining room and attack the old rogue. She kicks and scratches at him. He does everything to stop her.
"Dora, stop! I am sorry! I did not know you were here! I would not have come with the kids if I knew you were here," He shouts at Dora as he gets her under control. The three young wolves look at the older two beings in surprise. What is going on? How do they know each other?
"You bloody asshole! I hate you! How dare you come near my children!" Dora shouts.
"Your children? You had children? With who?" Mason asks. He does not look happy at all.
"None of your bloody f*****g business," Dora shouts.
"We are still technically married," Mason says.
"What?!" Maisie shouts, and the other two looks at the old witch and the old rogue in disbelief.
"Wait, so you are telling us you are the bloody old bastard that left our mother Dora just like that and ran away on after you married her?" Rufus asks; he is angry now and ready to fight for his mother, Dora.
"I did not run away. She chased me away!" Mason says. The three young wolves turn their heads to Dora.
"He did not tell me he was a werewolf. Witches and werewolves were not allowed to get married back then. Some did, and the witch was normally abandoned by her fellow witches and the magical council. She had to stay with the wolves and was never allowed to return to the witches. The love between witches and werewolves was forbidden for a long time. So I chased him away," She says and glares at Mason.
"That is unfair! Love should never be forbidden. No matter what species you are from," Maisie says. She feels sorry for poor Mason.
"What do you know? You are still young! In my time, there was no love lost between werewolves and witches. Over time the covens and the magical council have changed their outlook. I could not live without my witch friends. He tricked me into marrying him, and then he just left after I chased him away. He had no backbone and did not even fight for me!" Dora says bitterly.
"You told me you never wanted to see me again. I never returned to my pack and became a rogue with a broken heart. I was living in the mountains. I had no purpose in life and had no will to live anymore. I did not ask the Moon Goddess to give me a witch as a mate. I felt rejected! Do you know how much it hurts a wolf when his mate rejects him?" Mason asks. The three young wolves are watching the drama in front of them. They did not expect this to happen when they saved the old rogue this morning. Rufus gets a bucket of popcorn. This is better than daytime soapies.
"How was I supposed to know what wolves felt? I only learned about werewolves when we started dealing with them. Anyway, you still did not answer my question. Why are you here with my children?" Dora asks him.
"We saved him from being killed by other younger rogues," Rufus says with a mouthful of popcorn. Dora, who escaped from Mason's grip, attacks him again—kicking him with her little thin legs.
"You put my children in danger? You bastard! I will kill you!" She shouts. Mason gets a hold of her again and holds her against him.
"He did not put us in danger. We attacked the rogues to help him. He did not ask for help," Maisie says dryly.
"Don't you stand up for this good for nothing, husband of mine!" Dora says to Maisie.
"You had children, Dora? They are wolves, so you had another wolf mate?" Mason asks, hurt.
"No, she just adopted us. We are three orphans, and she saved us from our abusive pack," Rufus says, still eating popcorn.
"Shut up! Why can't you kids keep your noses out of my business," Dora shouts, and Mason smiles.
"So you never had any other man in your life?" Mason asks.
"The only relationship she has is with her bottle of vodka," Stew says, and Dora glares at him.
"My personal life has nothing to do with him! Why can't you children keep your mouths shut," Dora is angry now.
"Well, he is coming with us!" Maisie says. She feels sorry for the old rogues, and she thinks mother Dora still loves him. Maybe having him around will make her drink less vodka.
"If he goes, I am staying!" Mother Dora says.
"No, you won't. You love us too much, and we know you want him to come as well," Rufus says with a mouth full of popcorn. Dora glares at all of them defeated. She can not leave the kids, and she did miss Mason, but she will tell him that like hell!
"Okay, fine! But he does not sit next to me!" Dora says, stomping out of the room like an angry toddler. The three young wolves laugh, and Dora walks to her room and downs a bottle of vodka to get some courage to face the day and her husband.
