CHAPTER ELEVEN
As she trailed back into the office, Stella had another thought. Perhaps she could plead for clemency with Marc, and explain that Carrie had been about to grab her first.
But as the thought occurred to her, she shook her head. Nobody else would have seen the moment when Carrie clenched her fists. Stella had acted too quickly in her own defense. Plus, there had been witnesses to her attack. She’d even heard one of the guys say, “Oof,” in an amused way as it had happened.
Witnesses would seal her fate and she felt furious with herself for that one reckless moment. Why, oh why, had she allowed Carrie to provoke her? Just a few more days and she’d never have had to see her again.
