Since the meeting there had been a few more. Lots of strategic talks in smaller groups, and risk assessments. Then there came the applications, and the nervous wait to see who would be accepted.
In this time, we had made some firm friends, and done a lot of training. And I mean, a lot! We were training twice a night, six nights a week. It was exhausting at first, and I thought I'd never keep up. However, as the days went by, I felt stronger, and began to enjoy it more. Now I was keeping up with the other young ones easily.
Out of the twelve of us that volunteered, nine were allowed to apply. Out of those nine, three were accepted. Myself, Zyanya and Alecto.
Zyanya was usually quiet and kept to herself, except in training. She shone in training, one of the best. Her typically Native American features, dark skin and dark eyes meant she was very rarely without unwanted male attention. I liked her, we got along well. I was glad to have such a strong fighter going with us too, just in case.
Alecto was the complete opposite! I had a bit of a problem understand his Greek accent, especially with how fast he spoke. That didn't stop him from talking though, constantly talking! His fair skin and red hair made him and Zyanya complete opposites in looks and personality.
The three of us were getting ready to head off to the testing lab. We would stagger our arrivals and take different routes, then act like we didn't know each other to avoid suspicion. It wasn't that far though, and I was travelling on my own by train. I was excited at the idea of heading out on my own for the first time in my life.
It was just before sun up, and a few people had gathered to see me off. Leanda and Quinn wished me good luck, More gave me a hug and For held my hand saying they'd see me again soon.
Demitri walked forward, "I have come to enjoy spending time with you, and we have still got a hundred years together, so try not to get yourself killed my dear. Just remember, this was all your idea." He said with a laugh! I found myself thinking that I would miss him the most, which came as a bit of a shock.
I headed off towards the train station, my train was an early one, and would take most of the day. There was no place for nerves as I was so excited to be off on an adventure, pretty much on my own. For the first time in my life, I felt like an adult, and most importantly - I was being treated like one.
