Two can play that game

Sarah POV “It was, by the way,” He stated suddenly, with a sly grin. Sarah had tried her best to act indifferent toward him when he’d appeared behind her. Her sweaty palms were the only thing giving her away at the moment. How the hell had he recognized her this fast? “What was?” she asked, turning her attention toward him. Sarah had decided to take a seat on the couch, hoping no one would notice her. She wasn’t interested in getting to know anyone. She and Alexandra were still thinking of ways out of this nightmare. “Nice to meet you,” his smirk caused her cheeks to heat. She had never been so thankful for her mask as in that moment. “Why thank you, Marco,” she replied snidely. Marcus let out a sexy deep chuckle. Goddess, why did this man have such an effect on her? “Was it nice to meet me?” He asked, still smiling. “I’ve met much more vigorous men,” she challenged, holding his gaze. Two could play this game of teasing and indifference. After a few moments, she looked back toward the crowd. His gaze made her nervous. “Maybe if you’d have let me finish…” “Shh, will you keep your voice down,” She hissed, noticing those stupid drones flying around. He let out another chuckle. Damn it, he had won this round of their little game and she knew it. “Has anyone ever told you how annoying you are?” She flashed him a vicious smirk, trying to hide his effect on her. “Has anyone ever told you how hot you are when you’re angry?” He answered her question with a question. Sarah wasn’t used to men being as brazen as he was, but then again, he didn’t know she was the Princess. She would never admit it, but it was kind of refreshing. She continued her staring into the crowd, trying to ignore him. Though the tingles on her skin were a constant reminder of his eyes roaming her body. Some of the Alphas had started dancing with her look-a-likes. “Care to dance?” She slowly turned her gaze back upon him, trying to ignore the little flutter in her stomach. “I have nothing better to do right now, so…” she stood up. Goddess, she didn’t know if she wanted to slap that arrogant smirk off his face or if she wanted to kiss him. What!? No! No more kissing. Where were these thoughts coming from? “Everything okay? Or do you need more time to talk to yourself and make faces?” Oh definitely slap him! “Shut up!” she snapped at him, rolling her eyes though taking his offered hand as they made their way to the dancefloor. Sarah noticed Alexandra giggling and dancing with one of the Alphas she had yet to be introduced to. When their eyes met, she winked at her. “So, what were you talking about just now?” He asked her. One of her hands was on his shoulder, while his free hand was on her hip. “Talking about?” she asked, letting her eyes move to his lips. Goddess, they’d sure felt nice on hers. “You know, just now, to yourself,” He chuckled. She huffed. This man was making her blood boil. “I was debating if I wanted to slap you or…” she quickly snapped her mouth shut, almost saying too much. She couldn’t think straight with him this close. “Or what?” He asked, pulling her flush against his body, his hand moving to her lower back. “Or um…” her breath caught in her throat when he moved closer to her, their breaths mingling. “If you want a repeat of last night, all you have to do is ask,” He whispered in her ear. Sarah’s eyes slowly met his. His arrogant smirk faded from his face, as his eyes moved to her lips. The world around them seemed to fade away. “So, how’s it going over here?” Alexandra asked popping her face between them, snapping them out of their moment. “We better dance with other people,” Sarah began to splutter, pulling away from Marcus. “Should we now?” Marcus asked, still staring at her. “Oooh, I’d love to dance,” none other than Penelope swooped in, grabbing Marcus’ hand. “Let's go get a drink,” Alexandra said, pulling Sarah from the dancefloor. “Oh, s**t, thank you so much. I totally forgot the cameras,” she said, as they reached the bar. “So I take it that’s Mr. Nice-to-meet-you,” Alexandra asked, taking a sip of her gin. “It is. He’s so annoying,” Sarah sighed. “Hmm, if that’s what you want to call it.” Alexandra laughed. “Look at how Penelope is groping him. The woman has no shame. That’s like the third Alpha I’ve seen her molest,” Alexandra scoffed. “What?” Sarah turned around and watched Penelope lean forward and whisper something to Marcus, while one of her hands hovered dangerously low to his perfect looking ass. He pulled back to look at Penelope and laughed, but then, his eyes moved to hers from across the room, and he smirked. Smirked! Sarah’s hands turned to fists, but she quickly snapped her attention back to the drink in her hand. “I don’t care.” She said, a bit too snarky. “and he’s not an Alpha,” “He sure looks like an Alpha. Why else would he be dancing with one of you?” “No, he’s—Just annoying,” Sarah shook her head. “Hello there, I’m Alpha Elijah,” a handsome man approached her. Well, the parts she could see were handsome anyway. “Nice to meet you,” she stated, “I’m Princess Sarah,” Elijah let out a booming laugh, “Yes, it seems you all are, may I have this dance?” he asked. All the women in the room tonight were instructed to introduce themselves as such. “Of course you may,” she smiled. She had just found a way to get back at Marcus and she was going to love every second of it. Sarah led the way toward the dancefloor, almost aggressively pulling this Elijah right to where Marcus was still laughing and swaying with Penelope. “So, have you lived here long?” Elijah asked, trying to figure out if she was the real Princess Sarah or not. Sarah threw her head back and laughed loudly, probably scaring the poor guy in her arms. But her technique proved perfect, as Marcus’ head snapped toward the dancing couple. She quickly averted her eyes back to the man in front of her. “You are so funny!” she loudly stated, running her hand over his arm. She could feel Marcus eyes burned a hole in her back, causing her to smirk. Elijah let out a nervous laugh, before repeating the question. “I’m sorry, I’m just a little nervous.” She tried to explain away her erratic behavior, “But yes, I’ve probably lived here most of my life,” she nodded, placing a finger against her lips in thought. It wasn’t a complete lie. They had lived in the village for a few months while the castle underwent construction. “Has anyone ever told you what a great dancer you are?” Sarah asked, in a, what she hoped was a flirtatious tone. “Y—yes, my mom was a ballroom dance instructor, so…” Elijah smiled nervously. He had such a cute smile, with his little dimples, but nothing compared to that arrogant smirk. Stop it! “Oooh, you have really strong arms,” she rolled her eyes inwardly, all Alphas were jacked, it wasn’t exactly a secret, but she had seen Penelope use that trick a few times, and it always seemed to work. “Thank you,” Elijah puffed out his chest. Ha! It did work. The song quickly came to an end. A little too quickly for her to keep up her little game, but luckily another Alpha, who’s name Sarah didn’t care to remember took over. And again, Sarah laughed like a crazy woman at everything the man said. She soon noticed Marcus, who was still dancing with Penelope, had a scowl on his face, not replying to anything to woman was saying. Maybe she had taken it too far? When the song ended, another Alpha swooped in, but this one was different. He didn’t even ask if Sarah wanted to dance, he just took her hand and pulled her toward him. “So, are you the real Princess?” was what he asked, getting to close for comfort. “Maybe, maybe not,” she shrugged, trying not to be too impolite. When she felt his hand slipping to her backside, she pushed his arm back up. “Excuse me!? What the hell was that?” she spat angrily. “Oh, don’t be like that. I saw you dancing with that asshat what’s his name earlier. You were seconds away from f*****g on the dancefloor. I want the treatment he got,” “Let go of me,” Sarah hissed, trying to pull away. She wanted to throw him to the ground and punch the s**t out of him, but with all the cameras present… let's just say the council would go berserk. “Just one little kiss,” His hand slipped to the back of her head, pulling her closer. “Mind if I cut in?”
