Chapter 7

1180 Words
Jake's POV I spot my friends in the kitchen, casually drinking. “Hey guys,” I say, releasing Vanessa’s hand. “You made it!” Logan fist bumps me and wraps an arm around Brenda's waist. “Hello guys,” Kevin enters with Dianne, who is chatting with Vanessa. “Jakey, you’re here!” Heidi squeals, hugging me tight. “What’s she doing here?” she glares at Vanessa. “You said I could bring a friend, so she’s a friend,” I reply. “I’ll be upstairs later if you want me,” she winks, glares at Dianne, and leaves. “There you are, big brother! I thought you ditched,” Ashley chuckles. “Me? Ditch a party? Never,” I laugh. “Want a drink?” I ask Vanessa. She nods, looking nervous. Dianne leans in to whisper to Vanessa, tilting her head toward Tyrell. Vanessa shakes her head and waves her off. “Has anyone seen Chase?” Sharon asks as she walks in. “Last I saw him was by the pool,” Kevin replies. “Baby, I’m going to hang out with Heidi for a while,” Brenda tells Logan as she walks away without a kiss. “Is it just me, or do you think Brenda and Logan are drifting apart?” I whisper to Kevin. “Dude, you think too much,” Kevin chuckles, frowning as he notices Tyrell flirting with Dianne. “Looks like you’ve got your own troubles,” I smirk and hand Vanessa a soda. “Thanks,” she mumbles. “Don’t worry, girls are dying to be with me,” he grins before leaving. “Guys, we’re going outside,” I say, taking Vanessa’s hand. “You and Heidi, huh?” she smirks. I roll my eyes. “Yeah, we’ve been in the same school since we were five. That doesn’t mean we’re together,” I shrug as we step outside. “Besides, I like someone else,” I add, raising her curiosity. “Really? Who?” she asks. “Like me,” a brunette says, pushing Vanessa aside and hugging me. “Jake, I miss you!” she exclaims. Meet Bianca, my elementary school dance partner from third grade. I wondered what happened to her. “Look how you’ve grown! Wow, those muscles!” she adds, squeezing my arms. “Hey, Bi, what are you doing here?” I ask, glancing at Vanessa, who sips her soda, avoiding eye contact. “Heidi invited me, and I happened to be in the city,” she giggles. “Bianca?” Logan sounds shocked. He had a crush on her in third grade before she moved away. “Hi, Loggy! You look handsome as always,” she flirts. He blushes. “You look good too,” he smiles, scratching his neck. “Bi, Bi!” Kevin shrieks, hugging Bianca. “Kevin, still no girlfriend, huh?” she smirks. “Don’t worry, I’ll get one soon. It could even be you,” he winks. “Sorry, but my eyes are set on someone else,” she replies, smiling at me before glancing at a blushing Logan. “I knew it,” Vanessa mumbles, and I glance up. I gasp; Brenda and Chase are making out. “Omg, Sharon, come quick!” Ashley screams. Jennifer and Sharon rush over to look. “Chase?!” Sharon yells. Chase turns pale as Brenda wipes her mouth. “Hey, guys. Looking good, Bianca,” she says nervously. “Still a b***h, I see,” Bianca snaps. They’ve been enemies since first grade. “Who got Logan in the end? Me,” Brenda smirks, and Logan storms inside. “Yeah, and who will be his next girlfriend all through college? Me,” Bianca mocks, scoffing at her. Sharon runs inside crying, followed by her friends. “Well, I’ll see you later. I’m going to find Logan and be a good friend,” Bianca says, leaving. “I’m going to find Dianne before Tyrell uses her,” Kevin adds. As if he wouldn’t do the same. I hold my tongue. With Kevin gone, Chase and Brenda stand awkwardly on the balcony. “I’ve got to go,” Brenda sighs, exiting. Chase runs his hand through his hair and looks down at me. “Not cool, dude. Not cool,” I say as he heads inside. Two hours later… “Some party, huh? Didn’t know things could change in ten minutes,” Vanessa says. “About the girl I like, it’s not Bianca,” I clarify. “Not that I care who you like,” she scoffs, relief evident in her eyes. “Whatever you say, Van. Want to dance?” I ask. “Sur-” she starts but is cut off as someone dumps water on her. “What the hell?” I growl, looking up to see Heidi smirking with Brenda. Vanessa sneezes, shivering. I take off my jacket and drape it around her, glaring at Heidi, who frowns. “Take—achoo—me—achoo—home—achoo,” she says, shaking. I scoop her up bridal style and kiss her forehead. I glance at Heidi, whose face is flushed with anger. I smirk. “Achoo,” Vanessa sneezes as I pull up to her house. “Want me to carry you?” I offer. “No, I’m fine, thanks,” she waves me off with a sniff. She exits the car, and I watch her go inside before driving back to the party to pick up Logan, who needs a ride. I find him making out with Bianca on the couch. “Dude, you just broke up. Don’t make her your rebound,” I say, pulling them apart. “Come on, Jake, you’ll get your turn,” she giggles, clearly drunk. “She’s a good kisser, way better than Brenda,” Logan claims, clearly intoxicated but truthful. “Come on, I need to drop you home,” I say, pulling him away before they can kiss again. “Jake, there you are!” Heidi calls as I near the front door. “You can thank me for helping you get rid of that overweight baggage,” she grins. "Who are you calling baggage? I hope it's not my girl," I growl. "Your girl? She can't satisfy your needs like I can," she replies, rubbing my arm and kissing my neck. "Stop it, Heidi," I hiss. "Come on, just five more minutes. I'm still a virgin, and you could be my first," she whispers as Logan walks back into the living room. I want Vanessa to be my first. Heidi runs her hand over my abdomen, and I feel myself getting hard. "Just ten minutes," she whispers, pulling me closer. I close my eyes. 'Not that I care who you like,' Vanessa's voice echoes in my mind. "No," I say, pulling away from Heidi and going to find Logan. She can mess with other guys, but not me. I want Vanessa, and I will have her, even if it means dealing with Heidi. _________________
