Luke’s second day at work was easier than the first. “I think my muscles are beginning to adjust to all the lifting,” he told Mark. “Give it a week, and yours will look like mine,” Mark replied, flexing one muscular arm. Luke snorted. “If they do, I’ll look like a freak of nature. Yours are huge.” Mark preened. “Healthy living, hard work, and a good gym.” “I’ve got one out of three,” Luke said with a rueful grimace. As soon as he got off work, Luke headed back downtown to the shelter he’d mentioned to Jourdain. After talking with a counselor, he signed up for GED classes three nights a week from seven to nine.
