Chapter 7: Escape Again

1075 Words
I woke up and found out that I was on the bed already. I looked around and saw that it was where I was when I was here the last time. It was Duke’s room. I could smell his scent even when he’s not around. Where is he? I stood up and looked over the window. I looked at the watch and saw that it was six in the morning already. So, I really did pass out the whole night. I decided to fix myself and then get out of the room. I need to see my mom.   I went downstairs in an attempt to see my mom. Where could she be? I was sure that she was brought along with me last night. I didn’t saw anyone, unlike the last time that I was here, or was it just because we were supposed to have an event that night? I went outside the house and saw some pack members.  This pack seems to live close to one another. I wonder what will happen to me and my mother now. Are we staying here for good? We certainly can’t go back to our old pack and neither can we roam around all our lives.   I was about to go back inside the house when I bumped into someone. I looked up and saw Duke’s angry face. What happened to him?   “I’m sorry I didn’t see you—“   “Of course you didn’t, you have no intention of letting me see you here, right?” He said coldly as he stared at me intently.   “What do you mean?” I said. I was confused by what he said. I was looking for him and my mom after all.   “You wanted to escape again, right? You were planning to leave me again.” How could he think of that after he saved me yesterday? Is he serious?   “No! I‘m not; I was actually looking for you.” It was true. I wanted to ask him about my mom.   “Really? You weren’t planning on leaving me again?” He said.   “Yes, I have been looking everywhere in the house but you were nowhere to be found. I thought you were here outside that’s why I’m here.” I explained to him.   “Alright, why were you looking for me then?” He said as he raised an eyebrow at me.   “I-I just wanted to ask where my mother is,” I said.   “Is that all?” He said.   ‘Even in early morning, he is so hot. Look at that Adam’s apple, oh God!’ Rein said.   ‘I know.’ I said to my wolf.   “Yes, what else could there be?” I said.   “I thought you were looking for me because you missed me.” He said and winked at me. What?!   Yes, I missed him but do I have to say it out loud now? I mean, I am not yet comfortable with him, and saying that I miss him is so awkward.   ‘He is our mate!’ Rein said.   ‘Yeah, I know but it just feels new to me.’   “Alright, I missed you, okay? I shouldn’t have left you but that was the only way to keep you safe.” I said. I need to be honest regarding what I feel because he is my mate.   “Really? Do you think I couldn’t protect myself? Was that the reason why you left? So they can capture you and imprisoned you along with your mother? And to get yourself tortured in front of her?” He said as if he was judging my decision.   “Of course not! I didn’t know my Mom was alive. I left yesterday and ran as far away as possible but since I didn’t know where I was going, they caught me and brought me to the underground cell with my mom.” I said as a matter of fact.   “You shouldn’t have run away, you know. We are one of the strongest packs here. We could protect you from them.   “I didn’t know anything about other packs. I just knew that our Alpha was rude and does nasty things to people.” I said.   “Did you know how worried I was when I came to my room and you weren’t there? I looked for you everywhere. Fortunately, someone saw you when you left; she told us the directions you went to.” He said.   “I’m sorry. I was just not aware of your capabilities that time.” I said.   “Alright, it’s fine now. Please, don’t do that again. Don’t leave me again.” He said and went nearer to me. Now our faces were only inches apart. He leaned over and was about to kiss me. I anticipated his kiss and was excited about it until I heard someone faking a cough behind me.   Wade stopped and looked at whoever was beyond me. I turned around and saw my mom. She looked well-rested now.   “Mom!” I said as I ran towards her and hugged her. “Xena! I am so glad you’re safe honey.” Mom said. “How are you feeling? Did they treat you well?” I asked her.   “They did, all thanks to him.” Mom said as he pointed to Duke.   I turned towards him and without a second thought or what-ifs, I hugged him tightly.   “Thank you so much for saving us. I would forever be indebted to you.” I said.   “Don’t mention it. You are my mate and I would do everything for you.” He said and smiled at me.   “Wait, what? You are her mate?!” Mom said but it was more of a yell to me. I know, Mom. It is hard to believe that I am the mate of an Alpha.   “Yes, Mom and he’s the Alpha of this pack.”   “Alpha?!” Mom yelled louder than ever. Is it really that hard to believe Mom?
