(Andrea POV)
I was working on the project that Ciro assigned me, but my mind was still stuck on that feminine scream. Suddenly, a thought came to my mind, and I got up from bed. I gulped hard and stood right in front of the mirror. A sad smile appeared on my face, and I looked towards the tummy rolls. A self-deprecating laugh escaped my lips, and I pinched my flabby arms.
"Of course! Why would they choose a blob of fat like you?" I mumbled under my breath before crawling back to bed. My eyes were on the codes of my laptop screen.
"What the f*ck? Why am I thinking about them? They are nothing to me, and I am not here to spend time with them. I have to think about my escape and real mission, not this." I tried to remind myself of my real motive for coming here, but my mind was not at ease even after all this. I picked up the vase and threw it with full force on the nearby wall.
"F*ck! I have to get this over with," I mumbled, searching for the file Ciro asked me for. Rico pushed open my door, and I looked towards me.
"What the f*ck happened here?" He asked and looked towards the steel vase present in the right corner of my room.
"Nothing! I want to stay alone," I answered, but my voice was heavy with emotions.
"Is everything alright?" he asked again, and I gulped hard before looking towards him.
"Yeah! Everything is alright here. You can go back to your girl now," I bit my tongue after blurting these words out, and a smirk appeared on his face.
"Oh! So, you are angry at us because Gabriele ran to rescue that girl," His words made me angry, and I looked toward him.
"Why would I be? I have nothing to do with anything," I answered, and a smile appeared on his face.
"Oh, really! Then why are you angry?" he asked, and I wanted to strike him, but I controlled myself.
"You are delusional! Why would I be?" I answered, and he laughed.
"Come on! You can tell me. We are friends, after all," He said, and I rolled my eyes after hearing his words.
"We are no friends. We are just…ummm… workmates," I uttered after thinking carefully about our situation.
"What??? Workmates…We are no workmates. You know we are more than that; besides, no workmates f*ck each other," He scoffed; I know my words hurt him, but I wasn't ready to back down this easily.
"You are jealous, Butterfly! Do you think we are involved with that girl?" He pinched my chin and towered over me with his height. He looked like a Hulk with his muscular build, but I didn't let him intimidate me.
"Nah! You guys are monsters. I think you guys kept her as a captivate, so you can use her and torture as per your will," I blurted out, and he clenched his jaws in anger.
"What the f*ck? Do you think we are monsters? We didn't keep her as captive," He said, but I felt like I said something wrong.
"I am sorry! I didn't mean to…" He showed me his palm to stop me half-way.
"You were right! I crossed my limits, and I…f*ck it! We are just workmates from now on," He said, and I gulped hard. I know what I said was wrong, but the idea of another girl irked me so much that I hurt him badly so he could experience the same pain that I was feeling. He stepped away, and I felt like someone my heart hurt.
"Rico! I was…" I was about to apologize for my foolishness, but we heard another feminine scream.
"You have to come with me for a medical check-up. The doctor is here, so I came here to call you," He said, raking his fingers through his hair before leaving my room. I felt suffocated, but I controlled myself.
"It is good. We should keep our distance," I said, closing my laptop and changing my shirt before leaving my room. Before I looked around, I saw Gabriele there, but a frown appeared on his face as soon as his eyes landed on me. I know I have to accept this kind of behavior from them for a few days, but I don't care about them. I have to start thinking about my life and my well-being from now on. Although I was saying this to myself, I know I did wrong with them. I should have asked them about the girl and what they had to do with her screams.
"Let's go! The doctor will not wait for you for the whole damn day," Gebriele's words hit a nerve, but I ignore it. I followed his lead, and we entered the elevator. The elevator stopped on the third floor, and he stepped out. I silently followed him, and he pushed open an iron door. A girl was present on the bed, but her face was covered with blue and black marks. I frowned and looked towards the doctor, who was checking her IV.
"Sit here! I have to run some tests on you," She said before turning towards me.
"Okay!" I said and looked around. This room looked like a hospital room but I didn't ask anything. All the essential machines were present here, and the way this doctor moved around everything made it clear nothing was new for her.
"Lie down! Just a minute," She instructed me, and I nodded.
"What's your name?" she asked and turned towards me. Although she was quite young, I could see she had a good grasp of things.
"Is she your patient?" I asked after gathering all my courage.
"Yeah! For the last two years," She answered, and my heart thudded in my chest.
"Oh!" I said and forced a smile on my face but my heart ran wild.
