Nikki suddenly woke up with a start when the bus jerked back into motion. It's already dark outside. It was probably in the middle of the night already. If she's not mistaken, she's been traveling for two days straight since she ran away from her Aunt's house.
There's a couple of college kids who were busy arguing at the back seat. On her front there were two old couple talking with each other in hushed tones. She's not sure what its about, but it sounds pretty serious.
She's already far away from where she originally came from but strangers still makes her nervous. There's a feeling that someone is going to grab her and take her back to her father. A feeling that never goes away, after running away for almost ten years.
And when someone suddenly took the sit besides her, she's so startled she almost scream out loud. With a shuddering breath she snap her head at the person beside her.
No one is seating across the aisle, but it's like he knew that she didn't want anyone to sit beside her, judging by his cocky grin. The bastard.
Shifting on her seat, she let her whole weight lean over the window. Making sure that her large hood was covering her whole face. She didn't want to look at the smug bastard's face. Nikki doesn't know why but there's something with this guy that rubs her the wrong way. It's not just about the seat, but that short moment when she take a glimpse on his arrogant smirk makes her blood boil for no reason.
"You're going to Bozeman. Wow, what a coincidence! That's my stop too.."
She shifted and saw the smug bastard leaning over, looking at her bus ticket. She probably left it there without remembering. The destination clearly written in bold letters. She wanted to rip it into pieces, but she's aware that she would probably look insane doing so. She has enough of embarrassing her self for the day.
"Visiting family?"
As if I have. "Not really.." is my curt reply instead.
"Hmm. So your here for sightseeing."
"Something like that.."
"Cool. I wish I could do that too.."
God. Did this guy ever stop talking? Rising her head Nikki took a peek at him, and almost flinched when the guy gave her a very bright smile. Clearly his happy that she was secretly looking at him... He was good looking sure, but does he have a habit of talking to strangers he just met?
"Hi! I'm Calvin, by the way, what's your name cutie?"
A vein popped in her temple. And she can feel her blood temperature rising. That's why she hated this guy from the moment she saw him. She knew his type. Really, really well.
"If you like I can show you around. I'm a local, and we're probably both in the same age. You'll feel more comfortable with someone like me right. I'm such a nice guy.. Blah.. Blah.."
And Nikki stop listening altogether. Well, she cannot blame the guy, with the way she looked, scenarios like this always happen all the time. She's part Asian, so she's a bit smaller than her real age but even with a smaller built and the large hoodie she's wearing it couldn't conceal how big her chest was. Well, knowing guys, that's what they always see in girls. And besides that she also has a fair and pinkish skin, big doe eyes, thick lashes and red pouty lips.. She looked gorgeous and because of that she has a fair share of stalker that she have a hard time running away from..
"Hey, what's your number. And I still didn't heard your name.. Please tell me. Promise, I won't bite. Much."
Nikki glared at him. She wanted to put a bullet in his dumb head. And if she could murder him with her eyes alone, he's already probably six feet under. But the bastard just laugh at her blatant sign of killing intent.
"Wow, even your glare looks cute..." the guy was clearly enjoying this.. "Okay. Okay. Stop glaring at me. I'm not that bad a catch though. Ugh, honestly, if it's my brother I'm sure you're already flinging your panty at him. That guy really has it all.."
Okay. That does it. "Sorry dude, but I'm not interested." How's that bastard.
But he just laugh at me. "Come on. If you want to reject me, give it more feeling...."
And to my horror the guy, lean more to my side. He lift his hand and caress my hair. "Don't worry, even though I'm not that handsome as my brother, I still can give you a good time.." Trapping me to bus window he slowly lower his face..
Narrowing my eyes, I push his face away from me. God, I wanted to kill him.. "Get. Away. From. Me.."
But the bastard just laugh at me, and suddenly his arms were all around me.
"Bastard! Let go!"
"Come on. Just a kiss..."
"Ugh.. You bastard!"
"Come on...."
"What's the matter with you? Let me go!!"
"Babe. Just a kiss."
Nikki was pushing the guy with all her might. Clearly disgusted with his antics. And then all of a sudden she felt his hand on her left chest. The guy stop struggling. Nikki also froze on her seat.
They both looked down. And with fury boiling deep within her, she raise her eyes and looked at the guy who was sheepishly smiling at her.
"Opps my bad...."
He probably thought that because she looked small Nikki will just cry and act as frail girl. But he clearly picked the wrong opponent. Even with smaller build and cramped space, he's still no match for her. With the kind of background that she has, there's no way that she would lose to some green horn, who looks like he never killed a bug his whole life.
But he's sure very persistent. What the hell was wrong with him? Is he on drugs? Is he a f*****g p*****t, that he will force himself to a girl he just met??
"Sorry baby.. I..." The guy was flustered and completely embarrassed but instead of removing his hand, he actually started moving—Simply killing him will not be enough to sate the growing anger within her. No, it won't be enough.
.........
The bus driver, just drove like he always do. Strange people like them were the norm. Especially at midnight, so all is well. Even when the terrifying shriek resounded throughout the whole ride. No one complained. They clearly heard what truly happened. And sometimes, justice can only get by your own two hands...
******
Nikki was the last one off the bus, surprisingly that perverted bastard immediately run out when the bus stop a mere seconds when she started beating him.
Good for him.
With a sigh, she looked up. Nikki was aware that dawn wouldn't come for a few more hours, but there were already some threads of color over the horizon.
She wish she'd been paying attention to where they were going but she might have doze off without meaning to.
She knew she's in Bozeman Montana but she could have been in the middle of nowhere and would still feel lost.
Nikki spun around the parking lot, trying her best to stay calm. The bus station itself was a squat brick building, with all the lights off.
Industrial and commercial buildings covered both sides of the streets but it's probably too early for operations, that's why it's still all close. It's too dark for her to walk on her own. And there's no one else she can asked for directions.
So now what?
Getting here had keep Nikki going, but now that she's already here she felt so lost.
Planning her revenge. She want to scoffed at her own naivety.
How the hell would she be able to do that? She's just a kid. She's still a high school student. She was so powerless. And a coward. And her bastard of a father clearly knew that, that's why he left her alive all this time..
And that leaves Nikki feeling frustrated.
"You lost?"
Nikki nearly jump from fright. Leaning against the building, intentionally in the shadows was a stranger.
"What? No!"
"You look lost, though." he said.
What a nosy bastard.
"I'm not." Nikki said, fiddling the strap of her backpack.
The guy arc his brows at her, and looked around the now empty parking lot. "You sure about that."
Nikki felt her temper rising.
The nerve! He's surely making fun of me.
"I know where I'm going."
Nikki glanced to her left. There's a lot of larger buildings that way. It's probably where the center of the town was.
"Good." He didn't left where he was standing, but he’s still looking directly at her. As if he's daring Nikki to go on. And prove to him that he's actually right.
"Great." Nikki murmur feeling murderous. And started walking to her left.
"Are you sure, you don't want my advice?" he called out, his tone suddenly changing into something humorous.
That spur her going frustration more, so she bit back. "Who the f**k are you? My personal welcome wagon?"
"Nah. But everybody else call me Kane."
Whoever the f**k he is, he's a complete jerk. He's clearly local, and knew that she's new in town. From his tone and looks they're probably the same age. The guy could simply tell her, where to go and everything she should know, but he just keep on behaving like he's a total hotshot. Which is well, from what she could see, he's totally is. But that's beside the point—
Nikki stop from her tracks and suddenly turn around when she heard a loud laugh. And surely the guy was laughing at her.
"What the—"
"The town's actually this way." he said while pointing the opposite direction.
Nikki just growled back at him, wanting to punch the jerk but hold it in. No need to compromise her self to the new place she would start living in.
She didn't knew the guy. He's probably rich, from the way he move and to the designer clothes he's wearing. Or someone knew some bigshot. You may never know. For now, she needs to lie low. No use of bringing attention to her self. There's still a lot of things she had to do, and she can't complicate her whereabouts. Because her father might find her sooner than she could run.
Still grumbling, Nikki turned and change directions. The strange boy pushed himself off the wall and jog towards her.
"You always this friendly?" he asked with a mocking smile. With his hands in his pockets he started walking besides her, but Nikki can feel that he's still looking down at her. Screw him for being taller.
She didn't notice before, but with better lights she finally had a good look of this guy Kane. And what a f*****g handsome guy, the jerk was. That's probably why he's so obnoxious.
Under the street lights, his silky blonde hair started to shimmer. He was tall, probably around 6'3, and move liked someone with all the confidence in the world. Even his face was taut with cheekbones, hard lines and angles.
Tch.
Nikki didn't knew why but there's something about this bastard that rub him the wrong way too. Just like that p*****t she met in the bus. They have the same aura. And like that bastard, he really, really want to punch him too.
What the hell is wrong with her??
"Easy there, kiddo." he said his blue eyes, sparkling. He probably can tell that Nikki didn't like him from the get go.
Good for him then. "I'm not a kid." Nikki said, her voice cold.
"Of course, you're not." Kane said.
And the f*****g bastard even sounded just like an adult, when they're trying to be patronizing to someone younger than themselves.
Nikki was planning to lashed out, but her stomach suddenly started rumbling. And the sound was so loud, Nikki was sure, Kane heard it too. And when he started laughing again, Nikki felt her self blushed from utter humiliation.
"What's your name kid?" He asked after awhile.
Nikki still feeling embarrassed, just growled back. "It's Nikki. And for the last time I'm not a kid..."
Stomping away Nikki walked faster. And didn't even turn to give Kane one last glance. Because she didn't want to see the smug grin he's probably wearing. Damn jerk.
"I see you around then Nikki."
Like hell. Nikki never want to see him again. Period.
******
Kane looked up ahead, but when the cute girl didn't turn around to look back at him, his smiley face turned serious once more. Turning around, he frowned at the guy who was smiling sheepishly at him.
"Where have you been?" Kane growled.
Calvin just shrugged his wide shoulder and smiled at his brother. "You knew where I was. You called Rey didn't you?"
Kane can feel his wolf rising from the surface. Even though, he's more composed and understanding at most times, being Alpha he couldn’t help but become agitated when talking to another Alpha. Calvin is without a doubt an Alpha, and its frustrating to see him waste a lot of his time in chasing girls than doing his duty.
"When will you ever stop, Calvin. They were human girls. You know father, if he discovers what you're upto this days he'll not only beat you, Calvin. Worse he might kill you for sure."
Calvin flinched at that, but remain quiet. He's always been like that. Kane didn't know what he's thinking and he sure as hell wouldn't asked him anyways. Well, he'll not even sought him out in the first place if his father didn't asked him to do it.
"Anyways, I'm not here to nag at you. Father just asked me to. He wanted you to come home. There's an incident, and...umm"
"Janette is dead, right?"
Kane sighed and looked at Calvin. He's still as composed as ever. But he still can tell that he's in pain. Of course he is. They knew Janette very well. And she's.....
"Yeah, she's dead. Your fiance was found dead last night..."
