Chapter 21: He Was Innocent

I awoke in a small dark room. My legs were bent and I was curled up in a ball with my wrists tied together behind my back. The bag that was slipped on my head was thankfully gone so that I could breathe, but that didn't help my claustrophobia.  The room was moving side to side, tossing me with each swerve. I bumped into the walls uncontrollably and hit my head against a hard metal surface.  As my thoughts began to clear up, I realized I wasn't in a room. The small, cramped, and dark space that surrounded me was a car- the trunk of it. Once I realized this, the space seemed to grow smaller and darkness threatened to overcome me. I forced myself to breathe deeply and concentrate on freeing my wrists from the ropes instead.  I moved my wrists back and forth, trying to undo the ropes that b
