Chapter Five - Furious

What he said flattered her well-being, plus the look on his gray-glinting eyes almost made her knees feel weak.

The two of them were just staring at each other’s eyes and she could tell that there is really something about that gentleman that she just had to discover.

What he said touched her well-being and before she could say something else, she gasped when Louis suddenly pulled her to the corner where the two of them could talk privately.

“What are you doing? Why are you asking him to stay here?” He raised his tone, so she was reminded again of the fact that he started ordering her around in her past life after all the good times were forgotten like ashes.

“I’m just being considerate, Prince Louis, you know that being helpful is part of my personality, I simply don’t understand why this is such a big problem for you,” She firmly replied.

Prince Louis was livid as he tried to calm himself down, “This is a big problem for me because we’re married, this would be a scandal if they found out that he slept here in your kingdom,”

Venus mentally rolled her eyes. Back in the past, she found out that the scandal he had with her best friend after they were married never went out. Now he’s worried about this?

Princess Venus tried to calm herself down. Every time she thinks about her past, it’s always a distraction when composing herself.

“I’m pretty sure they’ll see us as a generous kingdom that doesn’t judge them by their social classes,” She raised her tone before walking away from him.

She stopped midway before turning to him again, “Now if you would please excuse me, I think my parents would want to see me in their chambers,” Venus added as she curtsied.

Venus was expecting him to catch up on her, but he didn’t. She felt more disappointed in him as she furiously went to the chambers of her parents.

She wasn’t really called by her parents, but she had been wanting to ask why they knew Arthur and she didn’t know anything about him.

After she politely knocked on their doors, it wasn’t long until the door opened and revealed to her mother, “Sweetheart, there you are, we’re just about to call Hanna to call for you,” She smiled.

Venus wondered for a moment, “O-Oh, do you need something from me, mother?” She worriedly asked.

Queen Wilma opened the door wide, “Come in, I’ll tell you the details inside,” She smiled as Venus reluctantly accepted the offer.

It wasn’t long until her mother brought her to their terrace where tea and coffee were prepared for them.

She thought that she couldn’t remember how many drinks she had for the day and thought that she already had enough.

The king was already there, munching on his desserts before glancing at them, “There are my ladies,”

Princess Venus and Queen Wilma sat with him as they started taking their tea and coffee. She was always at peace just being around her parents.

“Sweetheart, could we ask you some favor?” The king suddenly spoke, so she gently put down her tea before looking at him.

“Of course, what is it, father?” She curiously asked, so her parents just looked at each other before shifting their gaze at her again.

“We just found out that we needed to take matters to the other kingdom by tomorrow and the proposal of Prince Arthur would probably be put to hold if no one would handle it,” Queen Wilma started.

“But we won’t like it to be put on hold so we would like you to take over this deal to help us,” The king smiled, so her eyes widened in excitement.

“R-Really? Do you mean it?” Venus nervously asked while clutching her chest. She doesn’t know what to feel.

She has never been given a chance to hold projects for the kingdom before because some nobles were discriminating against her skills. Everyone thought that she was bright and they were just afraid that she would be better than them.

“Of course sweetheart, if there was someone we have to trust this project with it’s you,” The king smiled.

Princess Venus couldn’t believe that the king and queen personally asked her for this, she couldn’t help but be elated as she hugged them.

“This is a huge opportunity, mother, father, thank you,” She whispered, “You don’t know how you have made my night,”

The king and queen just smiled, “You’ve been emotional lately, but we’re just glad and proud that you have accepted this task,”

Venus broke her hug to them, “Oh, and mother, I wonder why I didn’t know anything about Prince Arthur?”

Her mother looked at her, “I knew you would be curious, Lilac Kingdom was very a close kingdom of ours,”

“We have been helping each other for as long as we could remember until they distanced themselves from numerous kingdoms, including us,” King Ernest chimed in.

“You almost got an arranged marriage with Arthur when you both reach your legal ages because we wanted our kingdom to be in ties with one another,” Queen Wilma amusingly chuckled, so her eyes widened.

“What? I didn’t know that,” Venus mumbled before taking a sip of her tea, so the queen nodded her head as if she understood why she was confused.

“We were worried about them and would like to help until we heard that they had fallen, especially when their queen died,” The queen just sighed, she looked as if she was troubled by it.

“Our kingdom sent help to them, but unfortunately, they just cut off communication with everyone up until today, so I was really glad to see that Arthur grew up into such a fine and bright young man despite what happened,” She added.

Venus started wondering why, so she became more curious about Prince Arthur, “Oh aside from that mother, have you heard from Hanna?”

Queen Wilma raised her eyebrows, “Oh yes, we did, why did you suddenly think of that, sweetheart?” She curiously asked.

“I know that kingdom Lilac is the farthest from the numerous kingdoms around Flora, so I knew that he was staying somewhere inappropriate for a prince,” Venus claimed.

“So I just thought that it would be generous of us to let him stay here for his safety as the prince of Lilac,” She added.

The queen and king just looked at her proudly, they didn't know who to thank for raising their daughter like this.

“Of course, he could stay here sweetheart, I hope your husband doesn't mind,” Queen Wilma worriedly smiled.

Venus then shook her head, “He won’t mind, I’m sure of it,” Deep inside, she wasn’t sure of it and just wanted to provoke him.

She hasn't started yet with her revenge, but she still wanted to make him feel how she felt from back then.

After she had tea with the king and queen, she immediately went out to check in with Hanna, whom she ordered to prepare the chamber of Prince Arthur.

“Your Highness, Prince Arthur is already at his chambers, he also asked if he could fetch his things by himself,” Hanna approached at the hallway as she bowed.

“Oh, I see, let him go with a carriage so he can easily come back with his things,” Venus smiled at her, so her lady-in-waiting just nodded before leaving.

Venus then surrendered to her chambers to check in with her notes, so far, she knew a lot of changes from the present had been changed compared to the past.

After reviewing some of her notes, she immediately went outside of her chambers to get some air until she didn’t realize that she ended up in the royal gardens again.

She stared at the starry night sky and felt that she was comforted by it with the thoughts invading her worried mind.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Prince Arthur spoke, which almost made her jump as she clutched her chest.

“Y-You scared me, Your Highness,” Venus sighed in relief when it was just him, so he immediately bowed his head.

“I apologize, I didn’t mean to surprise you like that, you were just lost in thoughts,” He commented, to which she was embarrassed.

“Oh, I’m just thinking about something really important that I can’t tell anyone just yet,” She whispered.

“Have you come back and already fetched your things?” Venus changed the topic, so he just nodded at her.

“I did, everything went smoothly because of your help, Your Highness” Prince Arthur commented, “I don’t know how will I thank you,”

“You don’t have to, it’s my duty as the princess of this kingdom to be hospitable and professional,” She smiled, which amused him for a moment.

They stared at each other’s eyes for a moment and thought that it happens more often than usual, so they averted each other’s gazes.

“I-I guess, I’ll have to meet with Hanna to rest for the night,” Venus faked a cough, to which he agreed.

“I think that would be a great idea, it’s getting pretty cold here at night too, Your Highness,” Arthur approached her.

“Alright, I wish you a good night, Prince Arthur,” Venus politely bowed at the sight of him before raising her head.

He solemnly looked at her eyes before reaching toward her hands to kiss the back of them. She gulped at the warmth she felt from his lips and hands.

“Sweet dreams, milady,” He let go of her hands after he said those words, watching her leave the garden.

Venus clutched her chest, she can’t seem to figure out why her chest was pounding so rapidly as if it wanted to get out of her.

“I really need to rest right now,” She whispered before deciding to look for Hanna for her bath that evening.

The next morning came by. Princess Venus woke up with a smile on her face, she doesn’t know why she was in a good mood.

“Good morning, princess, I got your new schedule from the king and you’re needed at the dining hall later,” Hanna greeted her after she rose from her bed.

Venus shifted her gaze at her side before nodding, “Would you want me to prepare your bath?” Hanna politely asked.

“That would be lovely Hanna, thank you,” Venus beamed as she stood up from her bed, “Oh um, have you heard about Prince Louis?”

She almost forgot to ask about him last night since she was preoccupied with her new duty and about Prince Arthur’s stay.

He was furious about the last conversation they had, so she thought she needed to reach out to him to avoid complications.

“He left without saying goodbye to anyone, Your Highness,” Hanna informed her, so she thought that it was bad.

“Kindly prepare my bath and dress for today, I’ll be meeting with him and Prince Arthur today,” She requested, to which Hanna just nodded.

It wasn’t long until she decided to take her bath and slipped into her dress Hanna prepared just for her.

A simple cream and gold dress that hugged her curves with her copper hair curled into perfection just sat perfectly behind her back, making her look extremely elegant.

Her sky blue eyes almost glinted when she stared at herself in the mirror. It was like she was seeing her soul from the past.

“You look wonderful, Your Highness, your presence is being awaited at the dining hall,” Hanna bowed at her, so she just smiled.

“Thank you, Hanna, we will be so busy today, make sure to stay just right beside me, okay?” Venus smiled at her.

“Of course, Your Highness,” Hanna beamed as they both paced towards the dining hall where her parents and Prince Arthur were waiting for her.

After the main door of the dining room opened, she knew that a new day of the challenge was about to greet her once more.

A new day to figure out how she will survive all of the things that have happened to her in the past.

“A pleasant morning, Your Highness, Your Majesties,” She curtsied before raising her head, plastering a smile on her lips.

Prince Arthur approached her and was surprised that he kissed the back of her hands so casually, “I hope you rested well, Your Highness,” He greeted her politely.

Both of them stared at each other’s eyes again until they heard someone speak, “Good morning, sweetheart, take a seat,”
