Chapter Four - Accepted

2252 Words
“Why did you do that?” Prince Louis sounded furious, so she raised her eyebrows at him before composing herself. “What are you talking about, Your Highness?” She pretended she didn’t know what she had done wrong as he tried to calm himself down. “That Prince is from the kingdom of Lilac, the fallen kingdom. How could you accept his offer?” Prince Louis sounded dismayed at his tone. ‘What is so wrong about a fallen kingdom offering a business to rise the ranks again? The main purpose of the kingdoms around the land of Flora was to help one another,’ She thought. “I haven’t accepted him yet. My father will still be the one who will decide, but from the looks of those documents, he might just accept it. It was a good offer, I’m sure you know that too,” She firmly said. “I just don’t get why you have to do that just for him? It’s not necessary, Venus,” Prince Louis addressed her improperly, so she thought he was starting to show his true colors already. “The one I didn’t get is why did you reject such a great offer? It would be good for your kingdom, not just his,” She stated. She dusted off her dress and lifted it up, “If you don’t have anything to say, I’ll escort Prince Arthur to my kingdom,” “If you want to come, you can freely join me. It’s reassuring to know that my husband will support this decision of mine,” Venus added. Prince Louis looked like he had no other choice but to accompany her. After all, she’s his wife by marriage, he has to accompany her everywhere. “I’ll come, but don’t expect me to ride with that prince, and also, you have to ride with me,” Prince Louis demanded, so she just politely nodded. It was the least she could do to purposely give him a little headache, “As you wish, Your Highness,” She smiled before kissing him on the cheeks. He looked pleased with what she did. Venus knew she still had a long way to go and had to buy time since she hadn't seen his parents yet during breakfast, lunch, and probably dinner as well. It would be a nightmare if she started dealing with them sooner. Venus knew that everything would be different this time because her past changed her a lot. She learned a lot of lessons from the past that would keep her away from the wrong choices and paths. The hours passed by like bliss and it was time for them to go to Kingdom Rose, her home, the one whom she regretted leaving so early back when she was naive, blinded by the emotions inside her heart and mind. Princess Venus asked Hanna to send her parents a message that she would be arranging a meeting with them together with the Prince of Lilac. She knew that they had no problems with it since they were open to numerous business offers. Princess Venus adored her parents for that. “We’re ready to go, Your Highnesses,” Hanna informed them before bowing at the sight of Prince Louis, Prince Arthur, and Princess Venus. “Thank you, Hanna,” Princess Venus smiled before turning to Arthur, “I’ll be riding with my husband. Are you going to be alright on your own?” Prince Arthur just politely nodded before giving her a bright smile, “I will be, Your Highness,” He mysteriously said. Something about him intrigued her interest. Princess Venus brushed her absurd thoughts and almost gasped when Prince Louis just dragged her inside the carriage and ordered the coachman to go. *** The galloping of the horses was the only thing that Venus could hear while she was sitting promptly beside her husband. They have been on the ride for a while now. Hanna was just right in front of them with her head lowered as if she was waiting for an order to be requested. “Do you really have to speak with that Prince and ask your parents to check his proposal? He’s nothing but a threat since their kingdom has already fallen,” Prince Louis was at it again. “Louis,” She firmly called while biting her lower lip. This was the fifth time he opened that topic while they were on this trip. “How many times do we have to talk about this?” She almost raised her voice, but luckily, she managed to calm herself down. “I already told you that my parents are still going to be the ones who will decide, so would you please stop asking about that?” She requested, forcing him to sigh in disbelief. “You’re just being too kind to him, are you pitying him?” Prince Louis asked, “Because if you are, you don’t have to go to such lengths,” “I beg your pardon? I don’t pity anyone, Prince Louis,” She almost clenched her fists, “I just think that his proposal has merit, that is only the reason,” The intense tension in the air was rising and Hanna knew she needed to interfere before these two bursts out, “Your Highnesses, we’re almost there,” Both of them stared out the windows to gaze at Kingdom Rose. Venus smiled because seeing her kingdom always put her at ease. It wasn’t long until the horses neighed after the coachman halted them from running. Hanna immediately went down into the carriage to open the door for them both. Princess Venus thanked her before seeing the other carriage that had just arrived. Prince Arthur went down there and smiled at her. There was something in his gray-glistening eyes that was putting her at ease and being bothered at the same time. A loud sound of the trumpets interrupted her train of thoughts, “The princess has returned with her husband!” The spokesperson announced, so everyone clapped their hands. She shyly waved her hands at their people before inviting Hanna, Prince Louis, and Arthur to pace towards the main entrance of the palace. They need to get to the throne room since that’s where her parents are currently staying while waiting for them. “Your kingdom looks well, my wife, it’s being taken good care of,” Prince Louis proudly said, so she happily nodded at him. “Of course, my parents would love everything to be perfect and comfortable around our kingdom,” She replied to him before thanking the guards after they opened the door for them towards the throne room. “Your Majesties, your daughter has arrived together with her husband and Prince Arthur from the kingdom of Lilac,” The spokesperson of her parents bowed his head while gesturing them the way inside. Princess Venus smiled after her parents stood up to approach her, “Welcome back, my daughter,” King Ernest greeted her. “Good afternoon, Your Majesties,” Venus curtsied to them, so they were pleased with her polite actions. “A pleasant afternoon, King and Queen Fedora,” Prince Louis greeted them while bowing his head, so they just nodded at him. “Are you hungry dear? Shall we ask the maids to prepare a feast for you three?” Queen Wilma asked, so she gently shook her head. “Thank you, father and mother, but we already ate and brought the person I've suggested you meet,” Princess Venus gestured her hand towards Prince Arthur, who simply just bowed his head at them. “Greetings, Your Majesty, I’m Arthur Roux Winter, Prince of the Lilac kingdom,” After he said those words, he raised his head. “Arthur? Is that really you?” Queen Wilma emotionally asked. Venus squinted her eyes for a moment as her mother hugged him. Arthur just smiled as he hugged her back, “I thought I'd never see you again,” Her mother said before breaking their hugs against each other. “We’ve been preoccupied, Your Majesty, father isn’t allowing me to communicate with other kingdoms lately until I have concluded my plans for the kingdom,” He informed her. “No wonder no one’s been responding to my messages, you’re my Godchild after all,” She glanced at everyone and invited them inside to talk. Aside from Venus, Prince Louis was confused about how close Arthur was to his wife’s mother and father. He just shrugged and accompanied his wife inside her kingdom. It wasn’t long until they arrived at the study room where maids started preparing tea while serving them some exquisite pastries and cake. “Prince Arthur, we heard from our daughter here that you’re proposing something that would benefit not just us but your kingdom as well,” King Ernest stated after taking a sip from his tea. “Yes, Your Majesty,” Prince Arthur firmly answered as he started taking out those papers from his envelopes to reveal them. He started discussing his plans for this business perfectly and from the lit up in the eyes of the king, Venus was sure that he would get the deal that he deserved. After all, the deal was such a steal offer. “That’s all I have to say, Your Majesties, Your Highnesses,” Prince Arthur bowed his head to everyone, so the king and queen secretly looked at him proudly. “You must feel so tired and proud supporting your father and your kingdom alone, I’m proud that you’re doing whatever it takes to make a change,” Queen Wilma patted his shoulder. “We’ll talk more about this deal tomorrow,” King Ernest commented, so he looked at them intently. “Are you telling me that you’re accepting my deal, Your Majesty?” Prince Arthur sounded like he was about to run out of words, so they just nodded. “Yes, my daughter was right, your deal has merit, it’ll help lessen the burden of our people’s work,” The king added, so he kneeled before him. “You don’t have any idea how this would help us,” Arthur sounded emotional. Venus was just smiling at him the whole time. Louis averted his gaze at them as guilt rose to his chest. Since the king and queen of Rose had accepted it, he was questioning whether he had made the right decision in rejecting him. Princess Venus, Prince Louis, and Prince Arthur were left alone in the study room after the king and queen had departed. Arthur happily reached out to kiss the back of her hands as he began to approach her, “You will never regret this, Princess,” He emotionally whispered and bowed as a sign of his respect for her. Venus shook her head before squeezing his hands, “You should compliment yourself more, you’re the one who pushed this far just to reach this goal,” Arthur, on the other hand, doesn’t know why he felt so ultimately attached to her. She was just so bright and didn’t give up on his offer. He knows that it was not only because of the bond that they had with one another as mates. “Oh and by the way,” Princess Venus stood up while fixing her dress, “I heard your kingdom is the farthest among the lands of Flora,” “You heard right, milady,” Arthur replied before glancing at Louis. He was just watching them speak with one another, which bothered him for a moment. “Where are you staying then?” She curiously asked. She thought that he had no relatives here apart from their distant kingdom. “Oh, I’m not comfortable with declaring that information just yet,” Prince Arthur looked uncomfortable at her question, which she noticed. “If you don’t have any problems with it, would you like to stay in the kingdom?” Venus casually asked, so his eyes widened, including Prince Louis. “Pardon me for asking my wife, why are you inviting him to stay here?” He sounded like he was warning her, but she just casually looked at him. “He’s my father and mother’s Godchild, I’m sure they’ll let him stay,” Princess Venus smiled before turning to Hanna. “Hanna, would you kindly prepare a chamber for Prince Arthur? Oh and please ask permission from my parents first for me,” She requested. Hanna just smiled before bowing her head, “As you wish, Your Highness,” After she said those words, she left to do her task. Prince Arthur felt embarrassed, he didn’t want to tell her that he was just staying at some pub for the night, sometimes to horse stables just to save his money. “Are you sure that this is alright, Princess Venus? I’m pretty sure I can manage myself,” He firmly said. Venus gently shook her head, she felt something inside of her that wanted to help this young gentleman. “I insist, please do wait for my lady-in-waiting,” She smiled, the bright sparkle in her eyes mesmerized him for a moment. A strange feeling was crawling up to his sleeves that he just reached out to hold her hand and leaned toward it, “Your kindness will be your most powerful weapon to win people over,” He whispered, which made her heartbeat race.
