The Evil King and His Mate

*King Alfhilds Castle in Sliabhraon* “I’m so glad you could make it Prince Cairbre.” “Thank you, so am I.” replies the prince.”“Now, let's discuss why I brought you all here.” says King Alfhild. “We are here to discuss…” Not very long after King Alfhild began to drone on about the humans and the issues that they are always causing, Prince Cairbre zoned out. For the rest of the day he sat in his seat not listening to one thing the king had to say and thought about home. He had to sail multiple weeks across the Great Ocean to get here and for hardly any reason. He saw no point in these meetings. All the great rulers of the elves talked about was how horrible the humans were, all of the problems they caused for each house, and how they wished they could do something about them. Nothing was ever done, and frankly the prince could not have cared less. He didn’t despise the humans like most of the other rulers and he didn’t care what problems they were causing for everyone else. He wanted to be a kind and just ruler of his people without being cruel to the humans. “Prince Cairbre.” The prince refocuses on the king and notices he is the only one left with the king. “Oh, yes?” “I have a proposition for you.” says the king with a dark glitter in his eye. “You know as well as I do that the humans on your side of the world are as bad as they are over here. There are revolts and our peoples are on the verge of war. In order to stop this from happening, I want you to unite humans and elves under one ruler. Neamh will have you as its king with humans and elves being ruled over together.” The prince is intently watching the king while he is speaking and can see the ill intent in this proposition. “I’m not sure I am comfortable with this,” says Cairbre. “The humans already have rulers and they have their own way of life, while we have ours. I also don’t think that they will just willingly unite their kingdoms as one and then hand them over to an elf.” The king chuckles in a way that sends shivers down the prince's spine. “I do not expect them to just hand over their kingdoms, coercion will have to be involved. I also did not expect you to take part in this willingly, everyone knows your stance on humans and how to deal with them. I am no longer asking for you to do this, but rather telling. If you do not complete this task and become the king of the entirety of Neamh, then I will have to resort to killing your loved ones. Perhaps I will start with your beloved sister.” “You can’t do this,” The prince exclaims. “I will get the other rulers and they will stop you!” “Oh but they won’t. The other rulers are all too scared of my wrath to go against anything I say. So, either you do this or your sister becomes food for the sharks.” * The prince agrees to the king's terms and immediately sails for home. Upon his arrival he only tells his father, the current king, of the deal and what will happen if they do not comply. The prince detests going to the human kingdoms and forcing them to give up what has been theirs for centuries. The task of claiming every kingdom and making one does not take very long. The humans do not take kindly to this however and the hatred for the elves burns ever brighter in their minds.
