My heart races. Just seeing her name on my screen makes my blood boil. This is not normal. She has some sort of a spell on me. I sigh heavily and try to push Terry off my lap gently.
“I need to take this.” I tell her.
“Then do that.” She says not getting off my lap.
“I can’t do that when you are on my lap.” I try pushing her again.
“Who is that? You have never behaved this way.”
“It’s my doctor. Get off my lap Terry!” I shout scaring her off. She stands and glares at me as I tap the answer icon and press the phone to my ear.
“Doctor Myra.” I say as calmly as possible. I can’t let my girlfriend see what is happening because I’m not my normal self.
“How are you Mr. Brown?” her voice is melodious on the other end. What type of a spell does this woman have on me.
“I’m fine. Are you okay? Did you think about my proposal?” I ask throwing Terry a glance.
“Yes but I’m not calling about that. Your proposal can go to hell. You can follow it there.” She snaps at me.
Mmh! She is a feisty one. I like them feisty. It turns me on the more and I now want to be inside her so bad.
I walk to my chair and sit. I’m trying to assume that Terry is not here. “So why are you calling?” I ask swinging on it.
“I need you to confirm something. You talked about coming to my office tomorrow?”
“Right. That’s what I said.”
“At what time? I have several sessions and I want to know what time you will be here. I need to know whose session I will reschedule or you just book one when I’m free.”
“I will take the afternoon session. From two. That will do.”
“Okay sir.”
“And doctor?”
“What?” she snaps.
“Think about my proposal. It’s a nice one and it can work. The outcome will be awesome.”
“Mr. Brown?”
“Please call me Mr. Larry. I don’t have any attachment to the other name.”
“Okay Mr. Larry.”
“What were you saying?”
“That you can google where hell is. They are waiting for you there.” I smile. She is a crazy one.
“I will keep that in mind doctor. See you tomorrow.” I smile and hang up.
“So?”
“So what Terry?”
“Who is that?”
“I told you it’s my doctor.” I snap shutting my eyes. I might tell her something nasty and closing my eyes helps me not to.
“What doctor? That’s not your doctor. The last time I checked your doctor was Leonard.”
She is jealous and I have no time for jealous girlfriends. It’s not like I’m cheating on her. I’m about to do it but the woman I want to do it with is worth it. Anybody can do her. I won’t term it as cheating. It will just be something casual and my girlfriend doesn’t have to find that out because in real sense, I love her. It’s just the thrill of doing it with a stranger.
“Do you think I’m cheating on you?” I ask standing up. I walk towards her and pull her to me. “Relax baby. I’m never going to cheat on you.” I kiss her forehead.
“Did she have to be female?”
“Yes. She is the best in her work. She was recommended to me by someone.”
“Which type of a doctor is she?”
“Why are you doubting me Terry? This is something private.”
“So why was she calling?”
“Quit this!” I shout fisting my hands. I back away from her and glare at her. “Stop doubting me because you might be pushing me away from you. Keep on pushing me to the wall and I might end up liking it there.” I grit my teeth glaring at her and pour some water into a glass.
“But…”
“No buts Terry. You need to leave. I have a lot of work to do.” I say just as my phone rings on the desk. It’s a new number so I decide to ignore it first and deal with my jealous and possessive girlfriend.
“won’t you pick that?”
“Nope. I need you to leave.” The call ends and the person on the other end doesn’t know the virtue of patience so they call again. I tap the answer icon gesturing to Terry to leave.
“Larry speaking.” I snap.
“This is doctor Harrison. I’m calling from Mercy hospital.”
“Yes doctor Harrison. How may I help you?”
“You know a certain Tamara Brown?”
“Yes. She is my sister.” Is she in trouble?
“You need to come down here fast sir. There is a problem.”
“What type of a problem?” I feel my hands shaking.
Mercy hospital? What is Tamara doing there? Is there a problem?
“Just come down here sir.”
“Just tell me what it is.” I shout walking out. “Cancel all my appointments.” I tell Regina and run into the elevator.
“I can’t discuss it over the phone. Just come and look for me first.”
“Okay.” I hang up and call Justin. “Where are you?” I snap walking out of the elevator.
“Ten minutes away from your building sir.”
“Make it five. I need you to take me to Mercy’s. I will deal with the cops.” I say and hang up before he responds.
What is wrong with Tamara? Why is she at the hospital?
Fuck!
I can’t keep still. I just can’t.
“Larry.”
“Not now Terry.” I snap walking around. I’m in no moods for this.
“Tell me what’s wrong.”
“Tamara is at the hospital. That’s what is wrong.” I say not looking at her.
“I’m sorry.” She takes my hand but I snap it from hers. I see her rolling her eyes and ignore it. “Why are you like this with me?”
Really? Now? What happened to women?
“Not now Terry. Not now. I’m in no mood for this.” I say as Justin pulls up outside my offices.
He gets out to open my door and I beat him to it. I take the driver’s seat and fasten up. “I will drive.” I tell him shutting the door.
“Larry?” that’s Terry again. She is beginning to piss me off.
“Take a cab to the house and take the mustang. Meet me at Mercy’s.” I tell him ignoring Terry.
“You aren’t going to snob me.” She says leaning against my door but I push her off and drive away.
The distance to Mercy’s seems longer than usual. I hope that she is okay. I can’t imagine losing the only sister I have. The only sibling I have. I just can’t.
What is it that the doctor couldn’t tell me over the phone?
I pull up at Mercy’s parking lot and run into the building.
“Tamara Brown. Is she here?” I ask the receptionist ignoring the fact that she was talking to someone else.
“Yes sir.” She gestures to the other person to sit and wait.
“Which room?” I ask impatiently.
“Second floor, room 2O4 but doctor Harrison said that you should see him first.”
“Tell him to meet me there.” I say running to the stairs. Using the elevator is not on my mind right now. This is my sister we are talking about.
I stand outside room 204 and take a deep breath. I turn the doorknob to open the door but feel my heart racing.
What if she is not okay? No. She has to be okay. She just have to be.
I'm invited by the beeping of machines and colour white which is all over the room. Tamara is on the bed, her eyes closed and a tube is running from her mouth to I don’t know what. There are some sorts of tubes on her hands which are connected to some drip.
She looks delicate. I look at the blood pressure machine and feel my breathe wasting away. Her blood pressure is really high.
I feel the world crumbling down on me and my legs feel weak at once.
“sit here sir.” A male doctor walks me to a seat. I didn’t hear him come in.
“What is wrong doctor?”
“I’m doctor Harrison. I’m Tamara’s doctor.”
“I didn’t ask that. I asked what the problem is.” I snap. “Why is she here?”
“It was a suicide attempt.”
A what?
