My alarm goes off with a shriek. I groan and reach for it on the nightstand. I punch the snooze button and turn on the bed so that I’m sleeping with my face down. I snort covering my head with a pillow.
I feel terrible. My head is heavy and I feel fuzzy. I don’t know how I will manage at work today. I can’t skive. I have some patients so it’s not possible. This is one of the days I wish I can just switch off my phone and stay indoors the whole day but I can’t. I have bills to pay and a lot of people need me.
What was I even thinking drinking on a weekday? On a Monday of all the other days? I can blame it on Larry but he didn’t force the drink down my throat. I took it to help me talk to him. I’m such a dumbass. It was so unethical of me. Who drinks with their patients? I’m the first one and I regret it.
I get out of bed and walk straight into the bathroom. I hope it helps me wash away all the fuzziness.
I still remember how Gael tried to slap me. I can’t believe he tried to do that. I know I was not dreaming about it. It was real. He tried to slap me and if it were not for Larry, my face would be covered with his palm marks. I have to thank him for that.
What was he even thinking? This is not the Gael I know. He had no right to raise his hand on me.
He wanted to surprise me? Well, surprise my foot because he spoilt it. He could have behaved better.
I turn off the faucet and dry myself. I blow-dry my hair and after making sure it’s sorted, I do my makeup.
I rummage through my closet looking for something to wear and settle on a black pencil skirt and a white chiffon top. I top it up with some black pumps. I comb my hair backwards so that it is falling on my back in massive curls. I take my phone and purse and decide to go to the kitchen and make some breakfast.
Larry is already in the kitchen frying some eggs.
“What are you doing?” I ask placing my purse and phone on the island.
“What do I look like I’m doing?”
Geez! We are back to being sassy.
“Are you always this way?” I ask pouring some coffee into a mug. I’m a coffee person. Especially now, when my head is this heavy.
“Always what?” he asks pushing a plate towards me. I take it and plop on a seat.
“Always sassy, rude, arrogant, so full of yourself, just name it.” I say and take a sip of my coffee.
“All those names for one person?” he asks laughing.
“Yeah.”
“That’s my nature Dr. Myra. It’s who I’m. I'm being nice to you by the way. I’m not always this nice.” He gives me a long look and takes his coffee and a plate containing some eggs and sits directly opposite me.
“If this is being nice, you have a long way to go.”
“Aren’t you going to say thanks?”
“What for?”
“I have made you breakfast.”
“With my eggs, coffee, water, everything belongs to me.” I say letting out a sarcastic laugh. “No please. You need to leave by the way. I’m going to work.” I say harshly.
“You can’t be harsh on your patient.”
“And you are not supposed to be in your shrink’s house.” I raise my eyebrows at him. “Just wind up and leave. I can’t leave you here.”
“Why? Because I will steal your stuff?” He asks sarcastically.
“Maybe.” I say sarcastically and put my mug and plate in the sink. I lean against the counter and give him a long look. “I’m getting late sir.”
“Wait for few minutes. My driver is bringing my clothes. I will take a shower and we can leave.” He says coming towards me. He puts his mug and plate in the sink and looks at me. “That’s not too much to ask for, right?”
“It is. Considering the fact that we are not friends. I just met you yesterday and now you are in my house? How did you even get here?” I ask raising my eyebrows at him.
“I just walked in through the door. How else would I have gotten in here?” he asks sarcastically. The door bell rings. “Must be my driver or your boyfriend. How do you date such an asshole?” he asks going to open the door.
I take a deep breathe and walk into the living room.
“I will take a quick shower and we will leave.”
“We are not leaving together.” I snap. “How about I leave you getting ready? Your driver can bring my keys.”
“Nope. This won’t take long.” He walks into the bathroom.
It takes few minutes for him to come out. He looks awesome in a black suit. I don’t know why he doesn’t look like the type to do official to me. He looks like the casual wear person.
“we can leave.” He says winking at me.
“This is the last day you are coming here.” I say leading him out.
“I thought you enjoyed my company.” He says with a smirk.
“You are a pain in the ass.” I walk to the driveway and he follows me. “Why are you following me?” I ask arching my eyebrows at him.
“Because I have not responded to your claims. What if I have an Issue that I need to talk to my shrink about?”
“You just call me or come see me in the office.” I open the door and get in. He holds the door and smirks down at me.
“What if it’s at night?”
“Call me.” I say trying to close the door but he doesn’t let me do it. “What do you want Larry?”
“To sleep with you.” He smirks.
“Why?”
“It’s been my fantasy since yesterday.” He smiles.
“You are crazy.”
“Yeah. I want it so bad.”
“I want to go to work Larry.”
“Tell me what you think first.”
“About?”
“Me and you sleeping together. Or when I don’t filter the words, shag.”
“How do you benefit with that?”
“I will get to fulfill my fantasy.” He says winking at me.
“You are such an ass.” I say shaking my head.
“I know. So what do you say?”
“I’m dating Larry.” I say glaring at him.
“Who? That asshole? That’s not dating. He is not the best for you.”
“And you are?” I ask rolling my eyes.
“I didn’t say so. I don’t want something serious. I have a girlfriend. I want something casual. Some sort of a one night stand. What do you think.” He says winking at me.
“You are definitely out of your mind.”
“I will give you a call. Just think about it.”
“Why don’t you take someone else? This is not working.”
“As my casual girl? You are the one I want for that. Just casual.”
“Thanks but that’s not what I meant. I meant taking another therapist.” I clarify clenching the steering wheel. He is pissing me off.
“Not going to happen. You are still my shrink.”
“All this is against my work ethics.”
“We can make an exception.” He winks at me.
“Just go. I’m getting late. I have a client I’m supposed to see.” I try pushing him off.
“I will pass by your office tomorrow.”
“Nope.”
“You are my therapist Myra. I will be coming for my therapy session and after that you can tell me what you have decided.”
“In your dreams. Not going to happen.”
“Will be waiting.” He kisses my forehead and walks to his car. I take a deep breathe and close my eyes momentarily. I open them and fasten my seat belt. I pull out of the driveway just as his car drives away.
