Wishing you were dead - Chapter 4

668 Words
Winter’s POV: My mind was racing as I quickly made my way through the Lost Forrest, the narrow snow-covered trunks climbed towards the sky desperately as the snow easily wove itself through the translucent leaves. I gazed up at the gentle leaves and silently wondered how something so magical and yet mysterious could survive in this harsh world. The leaves reflected the moonlight and vibrated with a milky hue and yet they appeared leafy and green during the day when the sun shone on them. It was only during the full moon when you could witness the eerie beauty that surrounded me. Cyrus would tell me as a child that the fairies cursed the trees to contain the lost souls of the dead. I gazed at the leaves with a slight admiration while my feet lead me to an unknown location, anywhere was better then being potentially caught by Cyrus or someone who would take me to him. I could only imagine what he would do if he discovered that I’d snuck out, or what would happen if he found the hole in the wall. I shook my head aggressively and forced my mind to travel else where instead of Cyrus’s harsh gaze. It was then that the moon caught my eye, it had been full tonight just like it was almost every other night. Only its gentle rays made my skin feel warm and my body tingle with a pleasant sensation. I’d heard the moon only appeared full in this specific region, if you were to travel a certain distance and look up at the night sky then the mirage would disappear and reveal the truth that the night sky hid. I don’t see how this is meant to distract me, I thought to myself as I raked my fingers through my hair. I wrapped a thick lock of my Auburn hair around my finger and gazed at the vibrating hues within the strands that only seemed to reveal themselves at night. I sighed and leaned against a thick trunk that was covered with snow moss. Moss that only seemed to survive in the cold and fed on snow causing the area around it to be barren of snow. “Who was he?” I muttered to myself without realizing it. White blond hair and crystalline eyes… He was unlike any werewolf I had seen; I hadn’t left our territory and yet I knew that there was no one here with those unique features. Maybe he’s a fairy… I thought to myself with a chuckle, he seemed to blend in with the ghost like woods that had surrounded us. Maybe he was a lost spirit about to be captured by the trees… I almost wished that I hadn’t left him alone, what if the woods truly did swallow his soul? And yet I refuse to be captured by Cyrus. I couldn’t help but feel like a coward, but I’d rather keep my brief taste of freedom to myself. “seriously…” I thought to myself after a moment as I looked up at the empty space before me. I knew at that moment that I couldn’t resist the pull the man held over me, curiosity grew within the pit of my stomach and controlled my legs as I found myself walking in an unknown direction. I would regret it if I were caught out on my own after nightfall and yet I couldn’t stop, my body had a mind of its own as I continued to push past the evergreen. “If I’m going to get caught then I should at least figure out who he is,” I muttered silently to myself. I sighed and pulled at my locks with frustration, the strands were vibrating with a rich burgundy colour, I always wondered why my hair vibrated with such intensity when I was outside at night, and yet Cyrus continued to ignore my questions whenever I brought up the subject. He threatened to shave my hair off despite my blatant refusal. I hate him, I thought as I gritted my teeth. I wish he were dead…
