Chapter 1
"This is Army General Nathan Young." "This is Rivernorth Tycoon Theodore Williams." "This is Top Martial Arts Master Alexander Smith." "This is Dr. Gregory Harris, Medical Master of Mystic Valley." "We are here to receive the King of Hell with full respect!" At 9 a.m. at ADX Florence, the Alcatraz of the Rockies in the State of Colorado, four prominent figures from various sectors of the U.S. kneeled in front of a heavily guarded secret chamber. The White House Chief of Staff stood before them, bowing respectfully toward the secret chamber, saying, "This is the White House Chief of Staff. I am here to pay respect to you, the King of Hell. The President has signed the appointment letter. We request your presence at the White House to serve as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff." "The King of Hell has already boarded Air Force One and is on the way to Rivernorth to get married. You shall all leave," the prison warden said from within the secret chamber. "What? The King of Hell is getting married?" Meanwhile, a red Ferrari and three Hummers were parked at the gate of Rivernorth International Airport. A beautiful, independent, and confident woman stepped out of the Ferrari. She was Samantha Reed, the eldest daughter of the wealthy Reed family from Emerald City, the last disciple of Dr. Gregory Harris, who was the Medical Master of Mystic Valley, and the youngest female academician of National Academy of Medicine in the U.S.. Samantha removed her sunglasses and cast a cold gaze over Rivernorth International Airport. She noticed a young man, dressed casually, carrying a famous painting and walking out of the gate. Samantha frowned slightly. She compared Ethan Quinn with the photo in her hand after a few glances, and then walked up toward him. "You're Ethan Quinn, released today, right?" Samantha asked with a tone of superiority. Ethan looked at the woman and frowned, "Are you here for me?" Samantha tossed the photo to her bodyguard, took out an engagement contract, and said calmly, "I'm Samantha Reed. Before your mother was expelled from the Quinn family, she arranged our engagement. Today, I'm here to tell you that this engagement is off. I hope that you won't trouble our family any more from this moment on." Hearing her name, Ethan began to reflect on his past. He was once the young master of the Quinn family in Emerald City. But when he was five, Vanessa Watson, the young lady of the Watson family, hooked up with his father and demanded that he should kill his wife and remarry. Eager to climb the social ladder with the help of the Watsons, the Quinn family drove out Ethan and his mother. To secure her position, Vanessa even sent people to kill them. Fortunately, a benefactor helped them out, and Ethan and his mother eventually settled in Rivernorth. When Ethan was eighteen, his mother passed away. He sought justice from the Quinn family but was falsely accused by Vanessa and imprisoned in ADX Florence. While in prison, Ethan took a crazy old man as his mentor and mastered incredible skills. Over ten years in prison as a prisoner, Ethan trained ten generals, eight scientists, and dozens of leaders in finance, technology, and martial arts for the U.S.. Although Ethan didn't know Samantha personally, his mother had once mentioned that the Reed family in Emerald City owed her a huge favor and had promised to marry their daughter to Ethan in the future. They promised if the Quinn family caused trouble, Ethan and his mother could turn to the Reed family for help. Yet, when Vanessa falsely accused Ethan, Samantha's father ignored it. Now, Samantha had the nerve to come and break off the engagement? Ethan's expression grew increasingly dark. Samantha's cold gaze shifted from her million-dollar watch to Ethan's worn-out sneakers, then softened with a touch of pity. "I understand you're upset, but the gap between us is clear. I am out of your league. Even if you married me, you'd always be overshadowed by me because I am so influential. If we marry, it would only make you feel sorry for yourself." Samantha handed him a business card and added coldly, "You are an ex-convict, so finding a job will be tough. If you don't want to end up on the streets begging for a living, feel free to give me a call." Having said that, Samantha turned away with disdain, ripping up the engagement contract before speeding off in her Ferrari with a roar. "Maniac!" Ethan couldn't help but snap as he watched Samantha's haughty figure disappear. Yet he did not have any interest in dwelling on that. 'Given my current status, even the leaders of major political families in the U.S. are nothing more than my disciples or servants, let alone you!' 'Vanessa Watson, you are the cause of my mother's suffering and death, so on your birthday on December 21st, I will deliver a special gift to you and my father, right on your doorstep!' He thought. Lost in thought, Ethan's phone buzzed with a text message from a contact aliased as "Henry Sullivan." Henry was the benefactor of Ethan and his mother in Rivernorth. [Ethan, you're being released from prison today, right? I've already spoken with Vivi, and she told me she's at the airport now. You should head to the city hall and get married today!] Ethan raised an eyebrow as he read the message. Vivi Sullivan, Henry's daughter, was a beauty from a young age. She must have become even more stunning by now. Henry had previously said that when Ethan would be released from prison, Vivi should marry him. This was his mother Linda Lane's dying wish and a marriage promise that Ethan was expected to fulfill after his release. Soon, a Porsche pulled up in front of Ethan. The car window rolled down, revealing a delicate and exquisite face that greeted Ethan's eyes. The woman, in her early twenties and hailed by the media as the most beautiful woman in Rivernorth, was Henry's daughter, Vivi. Looking at Ethan's ordinary face and plain attire, Vivi couldn't imagine what her life would be like after marrying such an ex-convict. She even dreaded about how tragic her future might be. But what else could she do? Her father was the authoritative Patriarch of the family, and his decisions were final with no possibility of changing them. "Hey you, get inside the car!" Vivi threw a displeased look at Ethan. Ethan got into the Porsche. He had just set aside the painting worth tens of millions of dollars when he noticed a blonde, blue-eyed girl in a school uniform sitting in the back seat. The girl was Hannah Zane, Vivi's cousin. She was twenty years old and had just started university. She was staying with the Sullivan family for the time being. Seeing Ethan get into the car, Hannah quickly shifted away, waved her hand in front of her nose, and said with disgust, "What's that smell? It's awful! Stay away from me, you ex-convict!" Ethan was silent. Soon, a heavy quietness dominated the car. *** "I am married!" Ethan stared at the marriage certificate in his hand two hours later at the city hall. His expression slightly dazed. Beside him, Vivi was arm in arm with Hannah, keeping more than a meter away from Ethan. Her gaze was filled with disdain as she said, "You're just an ex-convict with a criminal record. You can't even find a job. But I'm the CEO of the Sullivan Corporation. You should be aware that we're not in the same social class. Even though we're married, don't think that you'll ever have s*x with me. Once Dad gives his consent, we'll get a divorce." Hannah Zane added, "My cousin Vivi is such a wonderful girl, and I really don't understand what Henry was thinking when he decided to give up on Peter Brown and marry her off to an ex-convict like you." "Enough No more chats. We still need Mr. Brown's help with the loan.Go home now so Mr. Brown won't be kept waiting!" Vivi said as she pulled Hannah into the car. Ethan was about to get into the car and head back to the Sullivans' house when Hannah frowned and slammed the car door shut, saying, "Get lost, you ex-convict. You're so filthy!" After saying this, Vivi didn't check if Ethan had gotten into the car or not. Instead, she pressed the accelerator, and the Porsche simply sped away. Ethan shouted, "My painting is still there!" But the Porsche showed no sign of slowing down and quickly disappeared from view. Helpless, Ethan was about to hail a cab back to the Sullivans' house when he looked up and thought, "Why am I running into this woman again?" Ethan frowned deeply as he saw Samantha walking out from the city hall with her secretary. Samantha was surprised to see Ethan there. But her expression soon turned to disdain. "He's already started pursuing me right after leaving the airport. It looks like he still hasn't given up." "Ethan, why are you doing this? Even if you beg, I will never marry you," Samantha said, shaking her head and letting out a soft sigh. "Madam has already called off the engagement, and you still have the guts to follow her. I've never seen anyone as shameless as you!" Yvette Clark, who was Samantha's secretary, stepped forward and scolded him sternly.
