Zade’s POV
I never meant to follow her to school, but here I sat in my car watching this small woman enter the red building. I could hear the snide comments about the stench of death, but it seemed like it didn’t phase her or at least that’s what she put on. I couldn’t read her aura and that was frustrating me. How would I be able to help and protect her if I didn’t know how she was feeling?
I sent in a shadow poipoi to watch over her, it was basically just a small shadow that could see and hear what's around it but could blend in with the shadows.
The day seemed normal, our girl had a lot of work to turn in and seemed to have been able to keep up with her studies while she was out. A loud ring came from my phone, I looked at the caller ID and saw Becca.
I rejected the call and continued to watch Lenora, but the phone just wouldn’t stop.
“Yes,” I finally caved and answered.
“Where are you!?” She growled. “We are supposed to be having lunch with my parents to speak about finally trying for a child.”
My beast Chronos damn near shifted right then and there at the mention of having a child with a woman who wasn’t Lenora. “I’m sorry, some things came up. I'm not in pack territory right now.” Her voice faded into the background as she began a tirade of me not caring, which she isn’t wrong, I could care less about her or her parents.
“Poipoi!” the shadow creature rang. I snapped to watch the video the creature only notified when the object it watched was in danger.
I saw Lenora at her locker pulling out some books when a young woman with her hair up in a high ponytail walked over. She shoved the book Lenora just pulled out of her locker back in and then slammed it shut on her hand. I could see the pain plastered on her face as blood began to spill down her wrist.
“Get to our mate now!” I sent a mindlink out to my siblings.
I was out of my car and into the school without a thought following her scent and the scent of blood to her.
“f**k you!” Lenora spit as she opened her locker and cradled her hand.
“Aw, come on Len you don’t blame me now do you,” the girl smirked. “I just slipped was all, let’s get you to the nurse.”
“Get the hell away from me you cunt!,” She growled, trying to push past her but she grabbed the hurt hand holding it. “Now, Len, you can’t still be mad at me and Jared. You’re the murderer here. Of course any man in their right mind would pick me over you.”
My hand was on the girl's wrist . Lenora looked up at me with relief. “Zade!”
“Who are you?” The girl c****d her head looking at me up and down. I could see the lust in her eyes. Chronos was right at the surface. I couldn't open my mouth without him growling. Lenora was at my side
“Let go of her,” I bit out.
The girl let go and stepped away from us. “It was an accident,” she began to try and cover up her misdeeds. “Just get the hell away from us,” I growled, she stormed off.
“How are you here?” Lenora asked. “That isn’t important, we need to take care of this first,” I looked at her hand, it didn’t look broken thankfully but the skin on it was pulled back exposing her flesh. “Let me take you to the nurse,” I sighed. Her body would reject my healing techniques, I need to find a different way to help her.
“Were outside of the school,” Theo shouted down the mind link. “Where are you?”
“Heading to the nurses office now,” I answered as we walked.
“Zade,” Lenora nudged me. “You can let go of me, I’m not going to fly away.”
I didn’t believe her, she looked so pale and tired after this attack, but her mood tells me this is a regular occurrence. “Does it happen often?” I asked, holding my arm firmly around her waist.
“It’s my first day back, so not in school, but there had been a few times in town where she or another in her group would do things to me,” she admitted softly.
