The next morning, James and I woke up to head to the winter storm pack. Alpha Simon was ready to greet us at the border of his territory. We no longer needed permission to enter for he had trusted us that much as if we were members of his pack. We considered him family too.
"I'm glad you came, I have to introduce you to my future wife," he said. I rolled my eyes and looked at James.
"I told you," I whispered to James. He nudged me and I just stuck out my tongue at him. Simon led us to his home and standing in the foyer was a beautiful blonde woman, who looked half his age.
"This is Kathy," he said. She extended her hand to me and I shook it. I knew alpha Simon didn't want to wait for his mate but still interacting with humans was dangerous. You can't just blurt out our secret like its nothing. We had dinner and all seemed okay but still, I had this feeling. At least she didn't flirt with James but she had to know Simon would notice and probably kill her for flirting with another man in front of him. Simon was acting differently. I mean he always had she-wolf girlfriends but he never seemed this giddy or strung up. James said it was because he was in love. I wanted to slap both of them. We had an okay dinner and Simon said he would stop by soon to have dinner again. I was just happy to leave there but I may have spoken too soon. Julie and Jack were making out on our couch when we got home.
"Why are they here?" I asked James.
"He's my brother," James said.
"Don't," I said and James quickly shut up. It had been a long day and James and I went upstairs to watch tv until we fell asleep.
The following day, we had dinner with Jack, Julie, Simon, and Kathy. Julie cooked, everything looked a different shade of brown. The fried chicken looked darker then it should be. The fried potatoes looked too crispy and past golden brown. The mac and cheese were nowhere near a shade it should have been. I was scared to try it. It was way too salty and the overcooked flavor made it worse. I kept sipping on my water. The men, however, looked as if they were having the best meal of there lives. As soon as we were done eating I got up and went to go clean the kitchen. Julie followed me there.
"Did you like the food," she asked me.
"No," I said with no hesitation.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she said sadly. She stormed out of the kitchen. At this point, I didn't care that I hurt her feelings something was definitely going on. Julie and Kathy were bonding and acting like they were best friends.
"What happened?" James asked as he stomped into the kitchen.
"Nothing, why," I snapped.
"Julie is upset and so is Jack," he said.
"I don't care," I said.
"I can see that," James said as he came to wrap his arms around me. James was about to kiss me when Jack stormed into the kitchen.
"WHAT THE HELL ARIA!" Jack said.
"Calm down, Jack," James said.
"No, she needs to apologies, NOW!"Jack said.
"I'm not apologizing," I said. James brushed my hair. I knew he wanted me to not start a fight with his brothers but this was all bothering me.
"You're being a b***h," Jack said. James growled at Jack and I knew he wanted to go and attack him.
"Whatever Jack, I know you, and I know this isn't you, like what the hell," I shouted. I left the house and told James not to follow me. I told him I just needed some air. I didn't want to go too far but when I realized it I had ventured further then I thought.
I heard soft whispers in the distance and I didn't know if I should shift or not. I looked around and saw no one. Suddenly a group of people circled me. I realized they were witches due to their now louder chanting.
"Leave before I hurt you," I shouted. There chanting got even louder and quicker. I felt my body ache and I fell to my knees. Suddenly, I saw Father Romero. He began to chant himself and all of the witches were thrown a few feet from where they stood and then they fell to the ground. He picked me up and carried me. I didn't realize I had become so weak. He took me back to the church.
"Your lucky," he said.
"I would have torn them apart," I said.
"You were alone and outnumbered," he said. "So I doubt it."
"Whatever," I told him. "I need to go home."
"No, I can't let you," he said. He waved his hand over my face and I suddenly blacked out.
The sun was shining hard on my face. I got up and noticed I was not at home. The room was dark but the sun was shining through the red curtains.
"Good morning," I heard a masculine voice say. I looked over to where it came from and saw father Romero.
"You kidnapped me," I said.
"Not exactly," he said.
"I think we can help each other out," he said. "But I need you to trust me."
"That won't happen if you don't tell me what you are," I said.
"I would have never guessed you were a witch and something tells me your not," I said.
"Well, I'm not just a witch," he answered. "I was turned about 85 years ago by a drunken vampire in the streets of Madrid but I studied witchcraft with my mother before then. The witches in my mother's coven hated me for letting that happen. I was supposed to be the hidden gem in the witch world. I didn't ask to be turned but it happened so now I am what I am."
"Wow, well now tell me why you kidnapped me," I said.
"Julie and Kathy," he said and with those two names coming from his mouth I was hooked. I wanted to know what he knew.
