CHAPTER 8

1583 Words
ELISE’S POV Humming along the tune of an unknown song playing on the radio I add another piece of my jigsaw puzzle. After Alarous left I tried to calm down Ellen, poor girl had been terrified by his sudden appearance. But soon her shift ended and she had to go home. I was sad to see her go. She became my friend so fast and maybe the thought of being alone terrified me. But before leaving she gave me this puzzle to pass my time just like a nice friend would do. And here I am trying to complete it, but I know I suck at it. I miss Kelsey and mason. Are they looking for me? I don’t know. But I hope they at least miss me. I know I do. It’s crazy how I was whisked away from my normal life to this ultimate rollercoaster. I don’t know the people here, I don’t know where I am and I did not try to escape once, maybe I don’t have the strength to escape. No I have not given up, just exhausted. The music changed to an upbeat song and I unconsciously bobbed my head along. I soon gave up on the puzzle and stared out of the window. It’s a shame I can’t go over and gaze at the stars. The sky was beautiful tonight, an inky blue color with glitter of stars sprinkled on them. The room was silent except for the low tunes of the radio and my occasional humming. Alarous never came back, not that I wanted him to. Ellen said she will be here tomorrow so I am looking forward to it, but other than that I have nothing else to do. I closed my eyes and leaned on my back in a sleeping position. Maybe I can just sleep. A sharp knock woke me up making me groan. They will never let me live peacefully. The door opened and a nurse came in with food, I admit the food was not as bad as other hospital food but still bad. The porridge was tasteless but they add a bunch of fruits in it so I manage. Finishing my dinner I gazed out of the window again and sighed. I want to go out, feel the crisp night wind on my skin, and feel the heat of the morning sun. But they have to wait I guess.                                                 … The sunlight peeked out from the sheer material of the curtains and kissed my skin, the sunlight never felt so good, maybe it was just the lack of vitamin D talking but I am not complaining. I pulled off the duvet so it rested till my knees and stretched my hands a little. “Good morning Luna, how are you doing this fine morning?” a very cheerful voice said from where the door was and a smile made its way on my face without my permission. My eyes were closed but I could see her feel her smile. “I don’t know, morning hasn’t started for me yet.” I answered making Ellen laugh. Her contagious laugh made me c***k up too. “Anyway I brought your breakfast, eat up and then we will give you your medicine.” “Ugh no, please.” I groaned, just the thought of those horrible tablets make me gag. I am sure most of the population would agree with me. “No can’t do, you want to recover don’t you? And medicine play a big role in the healing process, only if you were like us-” she stopped abruptly when the door opened, rather harshly, an unfamiliar man entered the room. He must be around his late 50’s, he had salt and pepper hair and wrinkles were prominent on his skin, still he was not bad for his age, I have seen men and women deal with old age but he was something else. However his face was a painting of pure rage. His face was getting a darker shade of red every passing minute. I was not scared, I was annoyed. How dare this person barge into my hospital room and show me his anger when I have not done anything. That was when I noticed; he was not looking at me, he was staring at Ellen. Ellen was shaking in fear and her face was getting pale. What is happening? Are they related? Do they know each other? Of course they do, but what is going on? I looked between then in confusion. All of a sudden the guy grabs Ellen by her arm and drags her out of the room with force. I tried to go behind them but my legs were not supporting my weight and resulted in me tripping. I could hear Ellen pleading to let her go and asking for help from the corridor. Why isn’t anyone helping her! I shouted for help and two muscular men ran into the room looking for any danger, they saw me and their eyes widened, they tried to come near me but I shouted at them to go help Ellen. They hesitated but I glared at them and growled at them, at least I thought it was a growl. They ran out of the room and I struggled to sit back on the bed. I couldn’t focus on anything. What must have happened to Ellen? Will she be okay? Will they find her? Who was that man? All these questions were swirling in my head making me grab my hair in frustration. Ellen has been the first person who made me smile and laugh, I was considering her a fried and she was too ripped away from me. I did not eat the food she brought me, how could I? I was right here and I couldn’t help her, how I eat until I know she is alright. The door creaked signaling someone had entered. The air was buzzing with power and regality and I knew it was him. I did not want to meet him or see him, but a logical part of m said that he could help me with Ellen, he was powerful and he could bring Ellen back from that person, clearly those guards were useless. I looked up and met his eyes again, it’s weird how I am always drawn to his eyes. They were the first thing I noticed back then when I first met him and still every time I see him it feels like the first. Those green eyes were narrowed a little and I could feel his calculating gaze on my body, scanning me as if. Nest he eyes the untouched plate full of food on the table. “You did not eat. Why mia cara. Why do such a thing?” “Can I ask you something?” my voice was hoarse and vulnerable, they sounded foreign to me but I did not care. I needed his help. “Anything mio cuore. Anything you want.” He said in a breathless way making my heart go into a frenzy. Why did he have to be sexy? “I need your help. Please don’t say no.” “Tell me.” he said sensing my desperation. I narrated the whole event that occurred earlier this morning and he listened patiently. His face was like a blank canvas, and he made no move when I finished. “Can you help her please? She is very dear to me, I don’t know what happened to her, but you are powerful, so it seems, can you help me?” He looked down towards the ground, maybe he can’t? My hopes were crushed. I covered my eyes with my hands and sighed deeply. “She will be here tomorrow.” My head snapped to where he was still standing. What did he say? She will be here? Does he mean Ellen? “What?” I asked, just to be sure I heard right. “The nurse, she will be here by dawn tomorrow. You don’t have to worry, I will take care of the matter myself.” His words were so confident and sure. It made me feel that he could if fact get her back. I gave him a small smile to which his eyes widened a little bit, I wouldn’t have noticed it if I wasn’t focused on them. I realized I never smiled at him but then again, he never gave me a reason to smile. I nodded at him and said a thank you. He turned around to leave but waited and tilted his head to the side to look at me. “Finish your food dolcezza, I am sure Ellen wouldn’t want you to skip on meals and medicine, neither would I. Non vedo l’ora di vedere quell piccolo sorriso transformarsi in un sorriso in mia presenza.” he said and I saw a hint of smile before he disappeared out of the room. (I am looking forward to see that small smile turn into a grin in my presence.) I tilted my head in confusion and then let out a laugh. This guy is so confusing.
