Imprisoned in the arena of Doom 2

~ELOWEN~ ''Elowen!” Maverick’s voice broke me from the trance as he pushed me to the ground, and the werewolf hit the wall. “Have you gone insane?” he shouted, pulling me up. “Are you hurt?” I shook my head in response. I looked at him again; this time, he glared at me. Then I heard his voice in my head. “I hope you survive this, little bratty princess.” My eyes widened in shock; I never knew werewolves were telepathic, and now, it had changed everything. “I hope you can hear this, you psychopath!” I thought, hoping he would hear me amidst the thousands of thoughts in the arena. I waited, but nothing came until I heard the werewolf growling again. I looked away from Maverick and turned towards the werewolf approaching me. “If I were you, princess, I would run!” His voice sounded in my head again, and I didn't have time to look at him as I ran away from the werewolf. Maverick, who was by my side, held my hand tightly as we ran. “Stay behind me!” he shouted as the werewolf gained on us. Suddenly, it jumped into our path, baring its fangs, and lunged at me. I tried to dodge, but it was too quick. Maverick pushed me out of the way and took the hit himself. The wolf’s claws swiped across his chest, but Maverick didn't falter and held the wolf tightly. I let out a scream. “Maverick!” I shouted, hoping he wouldn’t die because of me. “Please…” Tears flooded my eyes, but I knew it wasn't the time to cry. I needed to support Maverick in any way I could. “Give me your hairpin!” Maverick shouted. “I need your hairpin!” My hand ruffled through my hair, and I yanked out the hairpin and handed it to him. “Remove the belt around your robe!” At first, I thought I had heard Maverick wrong. That was a great taboo for humans—unless they were married, a woman was not allowed to remove a man's robe belt. “What…?” I shouted. “What are you asking me to do?” “There is no time,” Maverick shouted, struggling under the werewolf. But still, I was a princess who had to maintain her dignity. “Elowen!” he cried out. “I…” This was not the time for dignity, I whispered to myself, rushing towards him, removing the belt with shaking hands, and handing it over to Maverick. I hoped my father would forgive me for breaking this rule and the many others I would have to break to save more lives. With a swift motion, Maverick used the pin to pierce the wolf’s ear and then the belt to restrain its jaws, rendering it temporarily useless. “Come on!” Maverick pushed the werewolf aside, grabbed my hand, and pulled me forward. "We need to keep moving!” I was glad one werewolf was restrained, but I knew it was far from over. Most humans struggled against the werewolves as they ran towards the open gates. Only a few managed to break free and run for the gate. Without hesitation, I stopped running and returned to the chaos behind me. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Maverick yelled, grabbing my hand. “We have to get out of here now! There is no time to waste.” I shook him off. “No, I am the princess, and this is my duty. I have to protect them!” Maverick sighed and palmed his forehead. “They are…” he paused, turning around. “Your safety is my priority, so tell me what to do.” I nodded, clenched my fists tightly, then turned towards Voridian and locked eyes with him, a sly smile spreading across my face, and raised my middle finger. “I hope you rot in hell. f**k you!” His response came quickly, his voice dripping with amusement as it sounded in my head. “The bratty princess knows how to swear. I wonder who she learned it from.” I scoffed and looked away, my attention returning to the humans struggling to escape. “Here, let's do this,” I leaned closer to Maverick, who bent his head to me. “We have to use this last option,” I whispered my plan to him. Once I was done, he nodded, and we separated according to the plan. “Hey!” I heaved a deep sigh as I walked into the midst of the werewolves. “Hey!” I waved my hands. “Come after me!” I screamed. My voice resounded in the arena, gaining the werewolves' attention. They began to boo me, but that didn’t stop me as I moved closer to them. “I am the princess, and my death will benefit you more than the others. Come at me!” I shouted. Even though my heart raced due to the fear that I might die at the hands of the werewolves, it didn’t stop me from advancing. At first, the werewolves hesitated, but I continued talking to gain their attention. “Don’t you want to taste me?” I taunted them. “Don’t you wish to kill me?” The werewolves reacted by snarling, their eyes fixed on me. They left the humans alone and turned towards me. My heart pounded as they began to circle me like predators. This gave Maverick the advantage of distraction to help the humans make a run for the gates. He ushered them forward, his eyes meeting mine. I nodded at him to continue. “Good, now come after me!” I shouted again. One of the werewolves jumped to attack me, but I slid under it, creating a chance to start running. Spending my life learning how to run with my father had paid off. My legs carried me swiftly across the ground. I had hoped my plan would work, and it did—many humans safely made their way to the gates. Even though many met their deaths, I knew I had done my best to save some of them. “Elowen, run!” Maverick shouted. I nodded back and saw the werewolves charging at me. “Help me, Father,” I prayed, returning to face the gate and continuing to run. Then I saw a young child fall. Without hesitation, I ran back to the child, pulling her to her feet and pushing her towards Maverick, who caught her and swept her into his arms. As I tried to run again, I felt a searing pain in my leg and heard the werewolves' cheers. One of the werewolves had grabbed my leg, its fangs sinking deep into my flesh. I tried to shake it off, but it held tight, pulling me backward and throwing me into the midst of the other werewolves.
