The sun mild and mellow, its arms of pure light shore through the soft cream curtains on my room, the peeking of Sparrows as they ate from the bird feeder on my balcony. I turned to my phone to see that it was Seven am on a fine Sunday morning; I was always up early; especially today. For today was the day my Mother had been waiting for, my seventeenth birthday.
'Happy birthday Rose darling… It’s going to be a great day, with a day as important as this something is bound to happen,’ Leah spoke up with anticipation; she was my wolf and my inner conscience.
I pulled back the soft stone grey duvet, the cool touch of the mahogany floors against the balls of my feet. I walked to my balcony and breathed in the sweet smells of summer. The sky was blue, no clouds, the sun was shining and the birds were singing their sweet tunes. That was all interrupted when a certain someone threw my door open and dragged me down stairs.
"Bella what are you doing? I was enjoying my morning view until now," I said to my squealing pony tailed four year old sister.
"Oh shhhhhh! You can enjoy it tomorrow, we have a surprise", she said through the gaps where her teeth had fallen out.
As she came to a halt at the living room door way, she pushed open the doors to reveal my parents standing in the middle of the room with smiles on their faces.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSIE", the three of them yelled.
The smell of the one thing I loved more than anything filled my senses. FOOD! The table was covered with it, pancakes, bacon, hash browns, juice, fruit and my favorite… Golden syrup and chocolate chip covered waffles. My mouth watered at the sight, my stomach growled and demanded to be filled.
“Aw you guys, I love you so much you shouldn't have gone through all this," I said as I embraced them with hugs.
"Yes we did. Besides it’s not every day a girl turns seventeen, now you can finally find your...MATE!" mum sang jumping up and down, squeezing me.
'She’s right you know, today's the big day!' Leah chirped up.
I just grinned and turn to dad; he was looking at the floor with a frown.
"Dad what's wrong?” I asked taking his hands and held them, he looked worried.
"It’s just that...Well, I don't want you to get hurt.” He paused for a moment before he continued.
“What if he's a total bastard to you, if he hurts you in any way I swear I will kill him."
His voice held rage, his tone had changed and his hands formed fists. Mum rubbed his shoulders and smiled calmly.
I wrapped my arms around him and buried my head in his neck; he relaxed and held me in his arms.
“Its OK dad I'll be fine don't worry, if he gets out of hand I'll deal with him. I'll kick his ass just like you taught me," I said as he smiled at me.
“I still have to find him you know, who knows we might never meet or we might meet years from now,” I plucked a strawberry from the bowl and let the flavors burst in my mouth.
"My little girl, you’re growing up so fast," he said as he kissed my head.
"I will always be your little girl, and you will always be the main man in my life. I promise," I said as he wrapped his arms around me and led me to the table.
I have to say, they really are the best parents in the world what more can I ask for.
‘FOOD!' Leah yelled I just licked my lips and looked at mum.
“Well let's eat, don't want all this food to go to waste do we," with that I ripped into my waffles. *** Thirty minutes later***
"Wow mum that was delicious,” I said as I smiled at her, she blew me a kiss in return.
Leah sighed in satisfaction.
"Oh presents, hang on sweetie," mum said as she returned with three beautifully wrapped presents.
She gave one each to Dad and Bella to give to me. Dad smiled but Bella looked too excited, it kind of creeped me out.
"Mine first!" Bella said as she ran to my side handing me a small box and a pink envelope covered in glitter.
'For a four year old she's pretty fast,' Leah laughed.
I opened the envelope to see a bright purple card covered in stickers, stamps, buttons and more glitter.
‘Happy birthday Rosie-Boo, I hope you like your present I made you. Lots of love Bella," I smiled and pulled Bella onto my lap and gave her a big hug.
Bella had made me a bracelet with beads and charms that said my name.
“It’s beautiful Bella I love it, thank you," I said as mum handed me a square shaped box.
I opened the box and immediately squealed with joy, it was filled with CD’s and all sorts of band T-shirts. I was a bit of a band crazed fan; my love for bands ran deep.
"Mum!" I yelled and she just squealed and clapped her hands.
"I knew you'd like them," she said as she smiled at me.
“Like... I love them thank you. “
Dad passed me an envelope before sitting back in his chair.
I opened it to find a note that said-‘Go out the back.'
I looked at him confused he just grinned and motioned for me to the back door, I got outside to see a beautiful black Camaro I jumped up and down overwhelmed. Then I heard keys jingling, I turned to dad who just smiled down at me and looked over my shoulder. I turned to see my nineteen year old brother standing by the car.
"SAMMIE!" I yelled.
I ran and wrapped my arms around his neck; he picked me up and spun me around.
“Hey Rosie I've missed you," he said as he put me down.
"Where have you been? How long are you staying?" I asked and he just laughed.
"Talk later but first, happy birthday," he said and handed me a small box.
I opened it, it was a ring with a white gem stone on in the center; it was beautiful.
“It’s a family heirloom; it belonged to your great, great, great grandmother. It was her wedding ring," he said as he put it on my finger.
"It’s beautiful I love it," I said as I gave him a hug.
Dad cleared his throat and stepped forward.
"How about you take her for a ride, but be at the pack house by five pm. We have to stay there for a couple of days," he said as he threw me the keys.
With that, I smiled and got in the car and turned the key letting the engine rumble to a start.
