Two Brothers

Jayce's pov I stepped into Kian's bedroom only to see him playing with Jude. They were passing each other a small yellow ball. “Daddy” “Uncle Kian brought me chocolates!” Jude's eyes perked up. I walked over to them and brushed my palm through his black hair. “That’s great.” He smiled, flashing all his small teeth, and slowly started unwrapping the chocolate. “So still no news about Daisy?” Kian would always inquire about her…doesn't matter how many years have already passed. “Stop asking about her. She's no longer part of my life.” “Still, she's Jude's mother…” “Jude doesn't need a mother!” My words interrupted his sentence. “You're saying that because she left you for her career.” Kian continued his stubbornness. He was good friends with Daisy. “I want to go to Ali.” Jude mumbled in his baby voice. Kian twitched a brow. “It seems our little Jude likes Alina.” His tone was sarcastic. “She's my friend.” Jude replied with another cute smile. “Daddy told me to spend more time with Ali and get close to her.” He blurted out my secret, just like that. You should never tell your dark secrets to children…they're the worst when it comes to keeping a secret. Kian shifted his curious gaze to my face. “Go and play with Ali.” My words softly whispered to him. Jude nodded his head and slowly rolled out his wheelchair out of Kian's room. With his warm presence gone from the room, a cold tension swallowed the air. “Why did you say that to Jude, Brother?” He questioned. If only he knew my intentions. “Ali is Jude's nurse…so it only makes sense if they grow closer.” My words were convincing enough. A smile glinted on his lips and his four fingers went inside his pants' pocket as his thumb hooked outside the pocket. “We’re getting engaged two days later…it might get a little difficult for her to pay attention to Jude 24/7.” It was his way to tell me back off. My feet moved closer to him and closed the distance between us to inches. “I don't care about your engagement, but if she fails to cure my son because of anyone else…I won't let it slide either.” His eyes darkened. Kian was my brother indeed, but we never got along, never. He was closer to our eldest brother, Tristan, whereas my bond was strong with our middle brother, Aiden. Since Tristan was no more, things became even more complicated with Kian. “I am taking Alina shopping today.” He stepped back and a wicked smirk formed on the corner of his mouth. “See you later, brother.” His presence was about to walk past mine, yet I clutched his left shoulder with a strong grip. “What?” He furrowed his brow. “Alina is joining me and Jude for lunch.” The smirk from his face dropped. “Keep your shopping plans for some other day…and don't forget to check her schedule before that.” I smiled and walked out of his room. *** Later in the afternoon… Alina's pov Mr.Cross suddenly made plans for lunch, he didn't even inform me prior. Anyways, Sara was joining us, and that was such a huge relief. He drove us to an expensive restaurant. As we stepped inside that beautiful restaurant, my mouth was awestruck. The plain ceiling was covered with shining colorful bulbs, there were no walls, only windows giving a magnificent view to the outside Silver Falls, a flower vase next to each table wrapped in white cloth, even the floors were like mirrors. “This is so good!” Sara whispered into my ear. A cute looking waiter in black uniform walked over to us and led our way to a table next to the glass window. The seats were a red couch, filled with cushions, and fitted for two. Sara perched next to me, whereas Mr.Cross shared the couch with Jude, opposite to us. “What's with the sudden plan, Mr.Cross?” Sara inquired. “This kid wanted to have lunch outside!” He answered in his deep voice. “Really?” Jude raised his brow. “Yes!” Mr. Cross took out a toffee from his pants' pocket and put it inside Jude's mouth. *Breath “Mr.Cross” “I have made the paste for Jude…we can start his treatment tomorrow onwards.” My soft tone reported. “That's good.” He laid back on the couch. A few minutes later the waiter served our food on the table, and left. “The waiter is so cute, isn't he?” Sara was literally drooling over him. “Behave, Sara!” My fingers pinched her thigh under the table. “Is something wrong, ladies?” Mr.Cross glared at us with those gorgeous green eyes of his. “Uhm…no…of course not…” Sara panicked. “Uh…I need to use the washroom!” He didn't say anything and my feet quietly sneaked out of his presence. Everything about him was scary, yet charming. There was a long dim corridor leading to the ladies washroom. Quiet creepy for an expensive restaurant. I was taking slow steps towards the washroom…but it felt like someone was following me from behind. “Is that my stalker?” My heart sunk to the bottom. My feet stopped. A breath slipped free my lips. I slowly turned my head around and a strange man, but well-dressed, was staring at me with lustful eyes. “Are you following me, sir?” My tone was very polite. A wicked smile flashed on his mouth. “Would you like to come with me?” “Huh?” “Come with me to my mansion. I couldn't take my eyes off you ever since your feet stepped into my restaurant.” “Get away from me!” My voice raised. He came closer and grabbed my wrist. “Why? Is that man your boyfriend?” I used all of my strength and pushed him back with a force. He trembled and my feet ran away from his presence straight to Mr.Cross and Sara. Sara noticed my pale face and got worried. “What happened?” Mr.Cross was just silent with a fork in between his fingers. “There was a creepy man in the corridor, claiming to be the restaurant's owner.” “Let's just leave this place!” “Did that man hurt you?” Jude clutched my dress and asked in his baby voice. His eyes were full of concern. “No, he didn't.” My lips lied and flashed a sweet smile to ease his worry. “Mr.Cross?” “Hmm…let's go!” He said. The car ride back to the Cruz mansion was a silent one. I was still shivering with what happened earlier. Upon reaching the mansion we went to our rooms and nobody said a word. It was strange for all of us. . . . Later at night… I woke up from a good nap and heard a loud banging on my door. “Alina” “Open the door” Sara was shouting her lungs out. I got out of bed and opened the door. “Why are you shouting?” “What's wrong?” She looked horrified. “Read it.” Her trembling hand passed her cell phone to me. The brutal news widened my eyes at her phone screen. That restaurant was blown off in a massive blast and the owner died in the fire, but the waiters and the customers survived.
