Mr. Cross

1115 Words
Alina's pov We had dinner and were taken to the guest house on the other side of a big wide green garden. The green garden was the only thing separating the two houses on the same land. Two maids stepped into the guest house with dresses. “Master sent these for you.” In such a short time Mr. Cross managed to get us dresses heels, and they were exactly our size. “How did he know our size?” Sara mumbled. “Master is a very calculative person…he can tell the right size in one meeting. His brain is extraordinary.” His maids praised his excellence. “We didn't see his wife though.” Sara was curious. Those maids looked at each other… “Master is not married. The child was born out of wedlock.” One of them answered hesitantly. We were quite startled to know the truth. “What happened to his mother?” My inquisitiveness couldn't hold back anymore. “Madam Daisy was Mr. Cross' girlfriend for four years. They met in Romania while attending the same university and fell in love with each other.” “One day she got pregnant and Mr. Cross was ready to take the responsibility for their child. He even proposed to Madam Daisy for marriage.” “After she gave birth to Zane, she ran away to God knows where, and only left a letter behind…she wasn't ready to be a mother, she had big things to achieve.” “Since then no one ever heard from her.” *Cough *Cough Samuel interrupted our secret conversation. The maids noticed his gloomy presence and rushed out of the guest house. He then walked over to us. “Mr. Cross doesn't like it when someone inquires about his private life. You're just his employee, so please.” “I am sorry. I understand.” My lips muttered softly. He didn't say anything after that and quietly walked out of our sights. “Damn! This old man is scary!” Sara whispered. *** The next day… I came out in the garden for some fresh morning air, whereas Sara was still sleeping in our room. The moment my feet touched the green cold grass…our eyes met. Mr. Cross was already in the garden, reading an educational book. Silence replenished the air. There was nothing to say. I lowered my gaze on the green grass and quietly headed back inside. Upon coming to a distance my head turned to him one more time out of curiosity, and his eyes were still fixed on me. As soon as my feet stepped into my room on the second floor… *Deep breath “Why was he staring at me like that?” *Yawn “Who was staring at you?” Sara stretched her sleepy arms. “Mr. Cross!” “He was staring at me as if I was a criminal who broke into his house!” Words came out of my mouth. “Are you seriously complaining?” “I would die for his stare!” “And who knows Mr. Hotty was perhaps impressed by you…on top of that…you'll get a free child as a bonus.” “You're unbelievable, Sara!” She covered her face with her blanket and went back to sleep again. *** Later in the evening… Sara went out for a walk, whereas I was packing our things for the flight tomorrow…back to Silver Falls. “Oh! Where is the pink towel?” “Sara took it to the garden…” I opened the door and he was standing right in front of me. My heart started thumping faster than ever…he was doing a lot without actually moving, even his scent was addictive, so was his gaze. “Mr. Cross?” He stepped into my room. My heart was anxious for some reason. “All the flights are canceled for tomorrow because of the bad weather.” His deep voice explained. “We are staying here tomorrow.” My head nodded to his words. I don't know why but his face resembled Kian Cruz a lot. Though his eyes were green, Kian had hazel eyes. Mr. Cross was more handsome than Kian Cruz…no doubt about it. Every feature of his was speaking of perfection. His eyes were again staring at me… The door opened attracted our attention. Zane rolled his wheelchair inside. “Daddy” “I want to see blue birds.” “What are blue birds?” My soft tone asked him with a smile. “They're very pretty and very rare.” His baby voice answered. “Would you like to come with us?” He came closer and held my palm. “She doesn't need to come with us…” Mr. Cross refused in a cold tone. Zane rolled his lower lip and frowned. I knelt down on the floor next to him. “You want me to come with you?” He nodded his head. “Okay!” My head turned to Mr. Cross. “I am going to treat Zane so it's better for me to get to know him well.” My words were pretty convincing. *Sigh “Fine!” . . . We went to a beautiful children's park near the mansion. It was cheerful and filled with positive energies. Those blue birds were roaming here and there in the park and Zane was enjoying watching them. “The birds are indeed beautiful.” My lips murmured as Mr. Cross was quietly standing next to me. “I wish I could live here forever.” “You're acting as if you never went to a park before.” His mouth whispered sarcastically. If only he knew how pathetic and miserable my life was!! “Things were bad.” “I never got the chance to enjoy my life.” His gaze again stuck on my face. *Deep breath “Is there something on my face, Mr. Cross?” My lips broke the silence. He paused for a second and then replied… “Your face…I don't like it…” His stiff tone said without hesitation. “Huh?” His head turned to Zane. What a ba*tard!! *** Meanwhile in Silver Falls… Levi's pov I went to meet David Cruz to remind him of our forgotten promise. Alina was destined to be their daughter-in-law. He hugged me tightly. “Let's fix their engagement date.” He said with a wide smile. My daughter will be truly happy in that house…they were someone we knew for so long and Kian was a good guy. Alina deserves the best. Not just that, but she will be out of our financial crisis.
