"What!?" Exclaimed Lucas one of Greg's friends. "So soon? Why are you leaving suddenly?"
"Is it because we dragged you along with us to disturb the market?" Stanley, another friend of his asked.
"Should we go to your father and beg him to let you stay?" Jared, another friend asked with concern.
"Haha.... do you guys really think that you will be able to meet my father?" Greg asked in amusement. He knows very well that there's no way this bunch of fools would get the chance to see his father, talk more of having a word with him unless they could turn into spirits.
"They can't, But I can" Greg heard another voice say with determination and he knew just who the voice belonged to.
"Alex, what are you doing here?" Greg asked as he turned to face the owner of the voice. Of course, Alex could meet his father since he was his best friend, and their fathers has been best of friends since childhood. And in business, they were also long time partners since they understands and trusts each other making others to envy their relationship.
And that's why the two wants their children to get engaged and also get married to each other.
"You don't have to, Alex" Greg refused. He looked back at his friends and smiled at them before saying, "Seriously, following you guys to the market isn't the reason why I'm leaving"
"Then why?" Stanley asked. "We can't just let you go like that"
"We're very sorry for getting you involved in our crazy game" Lucas apologized with sincerity.
"Trust me guys, there's more to it and it's better you guys don't ask" Greg said as he looked at the three with a pleading eyes. "And please help me to inform the rest because I might not get the chance to see them"
"Okay, if you say so" Jared shrugged his shoulders.
"We'll let them know" Lucas promised.
"Thanks guys" Greg thanked before leaving the room with Alex behind him.
"Thanks for not saying anything further in there" Greg said to Alex as they walked into the street.
"You're welcome" Alex replied. "Why not take my offer? I believe he would listen to me" Alex tilted his head sideways to look at Greg.
"But you know that would only make matters worst" Greg countered as he looked at Alex, before facing back to the road.
"Don't tell me that you still don't want to get engaged to my sister?" Alex asked.
Greg paused on his track, causing Alex to do the same and turned to face him.
"Alex..... I.... " Greg wanted to explain himself, but apparently, he lost the right words to express his feelings. He just stared at Alex speechlessly, because that was the only thing he could do at the moment. His voice was gone!
Alex was stunned by his best friend's behavior, he's been patient, waiting for Greg to tell him by himself, but to his dismay, Greg doesn't even have it in mind to do so. 'What does he take me for? For God's sake we're best friends and shouldn't have any secrets between us' Alex sighed in his heart.
"What are you hiding from me?" Alex asked as he looked his best friend right in the eyes. This time he believed that Greg would see the sign he was sending to him.
But unfortunately, Greg still remained silent as he shook his head in denial. "N-nothing" He heard Greg stutter, but he looked away which shows that he was lying and quite uncomfortable with the topic.
Alex looked up and sighed with his eyes closed. He opened them and took some steps towards Greg with his index finger pointing at him but he'd to put it down in frustration.
Greg's eyes still remained fixated to the ground as if he was staring at something important, his toes were hitting the ground repeatedly with his hands in his black coat pocket as he was obviously engulfed with nervousness.
"We're best friends, Greg and I understand you very well" Alex began with his voice calmed, causing Greg to snap his head up to look at him.
Alex smiled before continuing, "Do you really think that I don't know what's going on with you? And your feelings towards guys?" Alex felt like it was time he let Greg know that he knows, he couldn't resist it anymore.
"What? How... how did you find out?" Greg was totally shocked to hear this from Alex. He thought that he'd been careful but looking at it now, he couldn't help but ask himself if he really did conceal it well? He thought he could hide it forever from his best friend since he didn't want him to feel uncomfortable around him.
"You can hide it from everyone else, but I never expected you to also hide it from me" Alex said furiously.
"Alex, I'm sorry... I didn't mean to. I couldn't bear to see you feeling uncomfortable around me" Greg explained sincerely.
"And why should I feel that way around you?" Alex asked unexpectedly.
"Aren't you angry at me for liking men?" Greg asked, feeling surprised. Then, he paused and looked up at Alex.
"Of course, I'm angry at you for keeping it from me" Alex was displeased as his face looked sad.
"Greg, I don't know what you take me for, but I really do care about you"
"Huh?" Greg's mouth was wide open while he stared at his best friend.
"I mean, we're best friends and we have been together since we were kids, shouldn't we at least know every details about each other very well by now, huh?"
"I-I understand, Alex and I'm very sorry for my stupidity" Greg said while nodding his head as guilt filled him. "I Promise to never hide anything from you again, ok?" Greg promised as he crossed his heart with his hand.
"It's up to you" Alex snorted nonchalantly while putting his hands in his trouser pocket, as he started walking.
"Don't you believe me?" Greg asked as he ran after Alex.
"I do believe you" Alex replied without stopping.
"Then, why didn't you give me a good reply to my promise?" Greg said as he tried to keep up with Alex.
Alex abruptly stopped as he turned around to face Greg who had also stopped walking to look at him.
"Because I don't know if you'd be able to keep it" Alex said.
"What do you mean by that? And why are you looking at me that way?" Greg asked as he saw the other's eyes fell all over him.
"Where have you been for the past one week?" Alex looked Greg in the eyes and asked.
"I was at my grandma's place" Greg said while looking down. He'd another heated argument with his father that night he returned home and so he ran to his grandma. She's the only one that understands and accepts him with open hands when she found out about his preference.
"And you refused to answer my calls? Are you tired of being my friend?" Alex looked hurt while he asked this question.
Greg felt bad about Alex's question. They've been friends since childhood and he knows everything about Alex, so what stops him from sharing his feelings with his best friend? And with this this question knocking on his mind, Greg decided to share his ordeal throughout the past one week after the incident at the market with his friend.
"You mean that you fell in love with the police officer after he kissed you and rejected you?" Alex screamed in surprise.
"Yes.... but can you just keep your voice down? We're on the road and people are watching" Greg gritted his teeth as he looked around to see if anyone had heard them. But thankfully, people were minding their business as they moved about to their various destinations.
Alex ignored Greg's worried look and continued with his words. "So you want to leave the country so you can forget about everything about him? I thought it was because you don't want my sister" Alex joked with a laugh.
"Now you know why" Greg rolled his eyes.
Alex suddenly stopped laughing as he looked at Greg with concern.
"What is it?" Greg raised his brows at him.
"It's that really what your heart wants?" Alex felt sad for his friend and also worried. "You can fool yourself but you can't fool your heart"
"I...I know that very well but I can't force him to do what he doesn't want to do" Greg said with a red eyes.
"But he kissed you, Greg and you guys went even far to do some stuff unknowingly, if he doesn't want you, why would he do that?" Alex felt that there should be more to that person's actions.
"Alex, the disgusted look on his face said it all even before he opened his mouth. I have always been careful not to fall for anyone that doesn't agree with my preference but look at what is happening right now. I ended up developing a thing for someone that's even disgusted with a gay" Greg laughed at himself mockingly.
"Hey man, are you really alright?" Alex asked. "You can put a hold this travelling thing and look for a way to claim what your heart wants" Alex suggested.
"Nah... I'm alright. I just need sometime to forget everything and I'm sticking with that. It's of no use fighting for someone that can't even figure himself out"
"Ok, if you say so" Alex finally gave up as he decided to let his friend chose what he truly want.
"But there's still one thing that I'm curious about" Greg said with a puzzling expression on his face.
"What is it?" Alex asked.
"How did you manage to find out?" Greg asked..
