Maggie remembers so many times when she had to face difficult situations and decisions in her life. The most common and, if she is truthful to herself, the most painful were the times she broke up with Mateo. He was one constant in her life that seemed to keep popping up until she got married to Max. Then he seemed to disappear.
Maggie did think she was in love with Max for the first couple of years of their marriage, but that soon turned into resentment.

“You know I don’t like it when you drink!” Max’s voice echoes throughout their little apartment, and Maggie feels her heartbreak with each word he is spouting.
“You made me look like a fool tonight! Do you think your parents would be proud of you, huh?!” She just didn’t have it in her to fight him anymore.
