Amara: The Forbidden Child

Chapter 10

I don’t know how long we sat in the field talking about my parents and my life it felt good having someone that was listening to me and answering the questions I had inside my head, because it was having to listen to everyone instead of them listening to me, she was able to make feel like I had someone I would be able to open up to and make me feel loved and special I have never had that and Callie was able to make that happen for me. When we finished and it was starting to get dark, she asked me if we wanted to go get some dinner or if I wanted to cook. “We can out to dinner, I really don’t feel like cooking I know of a great place that’s not too far from here.” I tell her and we get up I finally put my wings away and we head to the car. I drove us to the little Greek restaurant on the other side of the falls, I discovered this place one day in high school as I was leaving the falls. We got there and the waitress sat us at the table and gave us our menus, I told her I would like to have a mountain dew and Callie order a Pepsi.

“I found this place a few years ago, it got the best Greek food around the owners grandmother started this place after she moved her from Greece after WWII, she is from Athens, she was from a very rich Greek family when she met her husband who was a Major in the US Army back then.”  I told her I had a learned a little bit about this place when I came here for the first time.

I was telling Callie about what I knew about the place, and she was enjoying listening to me tell her. When we were finished eating dinner and dessert, I wanted to show her the best thing about this place, so we got up and we walked around to the back of the restaurant where they have horse stables when we got back the older owner was out with the horses and when she seen me, she came over and gave me a hug and started speaking to me.

“Amara, hey darling how are you how was your event this weekend.”

“Mama Madeline, I am good thanks you for asking and my competition went great.”

“That is good my dear child, and who is this you have with you.”

“Mama Madeline, this is my girlfriend Callie, Callie this is my good friend and a grandmother figure Mama Madeline.” I introduced them Callie went and gave Mama Madeline a hug. When she was done Madeline asked if we wanted to take the horses out.

“Do you girl want to take the horses out; Zoey hasn’t been out in a few days I think she wants to go for a run.”  I looked at Callie and I was dying to go for a ride on the horses.

“Sure, if you want to Mara.”

“I’ll take Zoey and you can take Midnight.” I walked over to the stall that Midnight was in and opened it and walked him out and got him ready for her to ride. Madeline had already had Zoey ready for me. When I got Midnight ready, I gave him to Callie, and she got on him and I got on Zoey.

“Just follow me, Mama we will be in a little while okay.”

“Take your time and have fun and be safe girls I will see you when you get back.”

I told Zoey to go, and she took off. She was a wild horse, Mama Madeline and I found her about 3 years ago in the forest by the waterfalls she was running wild I was about to lure her when she was by the falls drinking water and I jumped on her back and rode her for the first time, she tried to buck me off the whole time but I was able to get her to calm down, she won’t let anyone but me ride her so I tried to come out here a few time a week to let her ride.

“Follow me I want to take you somewhere special.”

I told Callie, and I told Zoey to go. We rode for about 45 minutes when we finally got to the clearing before the waterfalls, and I told Callie to dismount Midnight and we would walk them in.

“Callie, I am going to dismount from Zoey and walk her in why you don’t do the same with Midnight.”

“Okay, that is fine.” Callie answered and we dismounted, and we walked into the clearing towards the falls, when we got there Callie was astonished at the view. I told her the story about this place.

“So, I found this place one day when I was out riding Stormy, after that I would ride out here anytime, I would go and see Mama Madeline, and one day we were riding and I spotted this beautiful white horse she was running wild I dismounted Midnight and I called to her I had some food in my hand and she came towards me and fed and when I was done we walked to the falls, she drank water and let me pet her and when we were finished she followed us I decided to dismount Midnight and see if she would let me ride her she was wild at first but I finally was able to tame her long enough to get to the stables and get her into one. Over the next few weeks, she wouldn’t let anyone but me near her and I finally named her Zoey, We have had her for almost a year, and I am the only one that can ride her she will let Mama fed her and comb her and she will run in the paddock, but she wouldn’t let anyone mount her but me her and Midnight are best friends too.

Mama takes care of her, and I come out 4 times a week and ride her, so she gets her exercise in and spending time with her.”

I explain while I am letting Zoey and Midnight drink from the waterfall, and we were laying on the grass. Callie pulled me into her and held me and gave me a kiss and said.

“Mara, babe you are an amazing person, you are kind and gentle and you have a soul of a saint.”

“Callie, thanks I really appreciate, I try to make thing easy and better for most people, My life wasn’t easy, and I never want that for anyone else.”

I tell her as we get up and head to the horses, I knew that Zoey was ready to ride again, so we saddled up and headed for a bit of a longer ride on the horses I took Callie about another hour north and then we circled back to Mama’s place, when we got back Mama was waiting for us are the barn and said.

“Hey girls did you have a nice time, the horse look like that are good and tried.”

“Yes, ma’am we did and yes they are,”

“Well let’s get them in their stalls and come in for dinner and dessert before you two head homes for the night unless you want to stay here.”

I looked at Callie, and before I could say anything she answered for us.

“Mama, we would love to stay with you tonight to keep you company it is a long ride back into town any way and I rather stay out here in the country anyways.”

I looked over to Callie and smiled because I would normally stay with Mama when I ate dinner with her since I knew it was getting late and she didn’t like me driving back after dark.

We got the horses up and we went into the house with Mama, she had already had my car brought round back to the house Mama has a key to the car, she had the room made up for us and we went and sat down she said that dinner would be ready in a few minutes and we help got up and helped set the table and when the food was ready we help her carry it to the table it was the three of us and her daughter came to join us she wanted to officially meet Callie. After we eat dinner Callie cleared off the table and dishes while I caught up with Mama and Zelda, I was telling them about everything going on at school and I gave them their invitations to my graduation the following week they both said that they would come and that they will have a graduation party for me at the restaurant they had been talking to Amos and he has already sent out the invitation I smiled when she was done cleaning up after dinner she came and sat next to me while were talking and laughing with Zelda and Mama, after about an hour Zelda looked at her watch and said that she had to go and close up the restaurant and that she was headed home she lived about 3 minutes up the trail with her husband and her 3 year old son. She said she would see me before we left tomorrow, I gave her a hug and said good night.

“Good night, Zelda, we will see you in the morning.”

“Good Mara and Callie, it was nice to meet you see you tomorrow.”

I looked at the time it was 10:00 PM Mama was getting ready to head to bed and I was tried myself.

“Girls I am headed to bed your more than welcome to stay up and watch TV there is one in Mara’ s room if you need any more pillows or blankets Mara you know where to find them.”

“We are headed to bed ourselves momma, thanks again for having us.”

“No problem you guys are always welcome Callie; Mara knows that she never needs an invite she is like a daughter to me.”

“Night Mama, I love you.”

“Night Mara and Callie, I love you too.”

As well all went to our rooms. My room was 2 doors down from Momma and we got into the room, and she had laid out PJ for us we went into the bathroom and changed when I was finished Callie had already pulled the blanket back and was laying in the bed. I laid next to her she pulled me and kissed my forehead I closed my eyes and I fell asleep.
