I arrive at the gym, 7:30 am on the dot. "Why are you just getting here?" Lane asks in an annoyed tone. I smirk as I walk up to him, "What? I'm on time." Ohhh Lane, my personal trainer, if there is any man that gets under my skin more than my 'soon to be' ex-husband, it's Lane. Honestly, it's not his fault, he just happens to be around when I'm hot, sweaty, and tired and he's the one telling me I can do better. He is rather handsome though for a guy that is younger than me anyway. A whole 6'3" compared to my 5'1". A thick and luscious head of hair, so dark brown that it almost looks black and dark emerald green eyes with a flawless completion, I wonder if he tans or if that his natural complection. His looks that he gives me sometimes, almost feels as if he is staring into my soul. Since he's a personal trainer, of course he has muscles in all the right places. For the last 6 months, hes been my personal trainer. Ive learned that he doesn't have any kids, never talks about relationships and isn't from around here. I don't even know why I decided to get a personal trainer. I guess because I had been married for the last 15 years of my life, I wanted to do something for myself and make me feel better about myself. Why I ended up with Lane as my trainer, I have no clue and I honestly dont know why he continues to train me because we do not get along. I've already changed into my gym clothes before I got there, all I got to do is throw my bag in my locker. Lane does the usual, has me warm up, do a couple stretches, and then the real fun started. "Okay Maddie, we're going to start with some dead hangs." I groan. I hate those, he knows I hate those! Why does he start with the thing I hate the most. "You know I hate those." I argued, "Im not even tall enough to jump up and grab the bar" "That is why I lift you up and let you grab the bar" Lane said in a matter of fact voice. Based on my protest, I'm still going to have to do those dreadful dead hangs. Just as he was about to lift me up to grab the bar, in walks my ex husband, Ryan. "I'm sorry sir but this is a private session. I can get your number and give you a call later" Lane explains. As I stand there with my arms crossed, I am furious. WHY? Is he here? What does he want? He could have called me instead of coming up here. "Its okay Lane" I replied, "Thats my ex husband, Ryan" Ryan chuckled as he walked up to Lane, shook his hand and introduced himself. "What do you want?" I asked "The kids said that their cleats are in your car, I came up here to get them" I rolled my eyes as I turned around and headed to the locker room to get my keys. I unlocked my car doors as I walked back out to where Ryan and Lane were. "The car doors are unlocked, you can leave now" I replied with a cold tone. Ryan gave me a sly grin, nodded to Lane and turned to walk out the door. Before he walked out, he turned to Lane and with a smirk said, "Good Luck" I was fuming, this man knows how to push me to the brink of insanity. "Alright, lets get back to those dead hangs" Lane said, breaking me out of my penetrating gaze at the door. "Next time I will lock the door" I was mad, I was angry, and ready to fight. Why did Ryan have to show up like that? He could of waited and I could of brought the kids cleats to him. Thats typical Ryan, he doesn't stop till he gets what he wants, even if it inconviences everyone else. Just like he didn't stop till he got what he wanted from his secretary....over and over again. "Lane, I'm not starting with dead hangs, you know I hate those" "Okay, fine. I'll just have you do a 2 minute dead hang and then we can go on to something else" said Lane "Fine" I agreed Lane lifted me up and I grabbed onto the bar. Just as he let go of me, the gym phone rang from inside his office. "Give me one minute, I'll be right back and I'll help you get down after I answer this call" he said as he dashed to his office to answer it, shutting the door behind him. I hang there for what seems like forever....I would of let go but this bar seemed so high for my short stature and I was afraid to leg go and land wrong. "Lane?!" I shouted....nothing. "What is he doing", I wondered. "LANE! I'm getting tired. It has got to be longer than 2 minutes by now!...........LANE! I'm going to fall!!" Just as I felt I couldn't hang on any longer, Lane came running out of the office, grabbed me around the waist and helped me off the bar. I was exhausted, my arms felt like jello as they hung limply around his neck. "Why did you take so long?" I hounded as he sat me on a bench "It was an important phone call, you could of just let go" Lane argued "Do you see how tall that bar is and how short I am?? Do you want me to break my ankles" I said in a sassy, dramatic tone. "Why are you so difficult?" Lane asked in an exasperated tone. "Oh please, did Ryan tell you to say that while I was getting my keys out of my bag?" I snapped back. Lane sighed, "No he did not. What did that man do to you to make you so angry?" he asked in a much softer tone. I looked at him with sad eyes, "Im not going to talk about it. Im not ready to talk about it and I don't know if I should confide in my trainer on my personal matters" "Okay, I was just thinking that you might need someone to talk to. A lot of people confide in me because most of the reason why they come to train is because they want to change something about themselves and that reason is usually a negative reason. But I wont ask anymore. Lets get this session done so you can go home and rest" I hesitate and eventually stand up and finish my workout. "I'll see you in two days, same time as today" Lane reminds me as I walk out of the gym doors. I'm exhausted as I drive back to my house, lost in thought on how different my life was 10 months ago.
