(Jace P.O.V.) The following morning I woke early enough to see the desert's sunrise. Of all the places Gemma and I had trained, Death Valley was one of my favorites. Sunsets brought with it a beautiful calmness that came when total darkness took over and became illuminated with so many glittering stars that they looked like crystals you could scoop up out of the sky. But sunrise, sunrise was a burst of energy and promises of a beautiful day. The clouds would turn into pink cotton candy in the distance while the fog closest to the sun rising looked like a sea of gold against the contrasting calypso blue of the sky.
